  1. Wow...much better than their last segment. They must have gotten a lot of hate mail (I know many of us on this forum sent complaints). Still not perfect information, but much MUCH better. I just wish the symptom lists had been a bit more comprehensive. I didn't have a ton of GI symptoms initially (of course if I get glutened now I will). Sometimes I...
  2. Right now I'm craving Chinese food - Chicken with garlic sauce and a giant EGG ROLL!!! But that's probably because I just started taking soy out of my diet. As soon as I stop having something, my craving for that something goes into OVERdrive!! Although just thinking about it makes my face feel greasy - I always hated how I felt about 30 minutes after...
  3. I did that in November. I was on vacation and feeling great for the first time in forever (I had been under a TON of stress at work, and being in an awesome hotel on the beach just melted it all away). We were there for a wedding and were feeling pretty good when we got back to the hotel - someone ordered a pizza and I just couldn't help myself. The next...
  4. So I'm thinking I have a soy intolerance - how do these things come on so quickly?? I was fine for awhile, and now my skin is breaking out, I have terrible headaches, and the brain fog is unbelievable. So for those of you that are soy intolerant, is there a website (such as this one) that you can turn to to look for products that may or may not contain...
  5. The image of this just made my morning. I understand it is a real problem, but I can just picture the daily ritual of trying to "catch the toast" every morning. Maybe this is the type of bread that would be better toasted in a toaster oven instead of a pop-up. Good luck! Maybe wear an oven mitt (catcher's mitt...lol) when attempting to place your hand...
  6. Ok I have a question. I was reading through some old threads to try to figure this out. I love a glass of red wine in the winter. Perfect with dinner and great to have to unwind at the end of a crappy day. Normally at home, I drink an Italian Pinot Noir - 1 - 2 small glasses (not the giant glasses you get in a restaurant). I can have this with no after...
  7. I understand money is a problem that makes this diet difficult sometimes. That is why you have to learn to cook - I'm lucky in that I love to do it. But I know some people don't. Unfortunately, in order to have variety and a healthy diet, it's necessary at times. I hardly ever buy anything that is specifically labeled GLUTEN FREE. I buy chicken, pork...
  8. Just watched it on their website - always knew I hated that show. Why, and I mean WHY would anyone that doesn't have to be on this diet want to try it? Oh I'll lose weight cause most of the people I see that are on the diet are thin....well that's because we don't absorb any nutrients and we're SICK!!! You want to voluntarily join our club? Really?? ...
  9. For that very reason, I do not have a formal diagnosis. I tried doing the gluten challenge and simply couldn't make it. I was going through a very stressful and important stage in my career, and the fatigue and migraines were too much for me. Lately, something is getting me though cause I have MASSIVE brain fog that is driving me bananas (and I HATE bananas...
  10. Kelley, I have not, but that sounds like a fantastic solution. Any ideas where I could find some great recipes using those alternatives? For the most part, I don't eat a lot of breads or pastries anyway. But to be able to make something occasionally and not have it throw my out of whack for a long time would be great. Always nice to have a muffin with...
  11. Barry, I am all things carbohydrate intolerant. I have only figured this out because I resisted it kicking and screaming. I was ok with the gluten-free thing - but to give it all up? Insanity! I have recently figured out that I am soy intolerant as well. Just waiting for more things to pile on at this point. The only time I feel really good and have...
  12. Pizza, pizza, pizza!! I was missing it before (good, greasy, NY style pizza), but now that I am mostly grain free/sugar free as well, I miss all things carbohydrate. Even the gluten-free alternatives!! Making mac n' cheese with quinoa pasta was one of my treat foods - now I can't have that. For awhile, I was only allowing myself carbs a couple times per...
  13. I have blood sugar issues and I love to keep protein bars handy for when I can't just stop my life and cook a meal. I was eating the Think Thin crunch bars (they are so good), but every afternoon I would get severe stomach cramping. My Dr. figured out that I must be reacting to the soy protein - stopped eating the bars, stopped having the pain. But now...
  14. I am an undiagnosed gluten sensitive person - blood tests came back negative, no severe GI symptoms. But I do have malabsorption, skin problems, neurologic symptoms, fatigue, and depression. I am 1 year gluten free. What I'm noticing lately is that my brain fog is back. While I am not crazy careful about my diet, I do my very best to be completely gluten...
  15. I was the same way - I was losing weight so fast (and I DON'T have the weight to lose). All my tests came back "normal" or negative. But once I cut out gluten (and most carbs), started eating better, and religiously taking my supplements, the weight started to come back. I never really had a lot of digestive trouble - mostly just bloating and gas. But...
  16. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but you may ask to have your stomach acid levels checked. This was happening to me ALL the time. And since you seem to feel better when you only have a salad or something else very low protein, it could be that your acid levels are too low (a very common problem for those with celiac). Once I started taking a HCl supplement...
  17. leehua - I'm going through that right now. So annoying. The left side of my nose (it's always only the left...weird) is raw and peeling. I've had problems with reoccuring YI since January of 2008. As if being gluten-free isn't hard enough, my body wants me to be free of all grains too. I seem to rebel when I'm PMSing - those darn Against the Grain baguettes...
  18. My favorite is crab dip - block of cream cheese, top with crab meat (the real stuff, not the fake stuff), top with cocktail sauce. Used to eat with crackers, but it's just as good with fritos or tortilla chips. Also, I made stuffed mushrooms for Christmas - the whole family loved them! Don't have the recipe with me, but I can post later if anyone is...
  19. I have blood sugar issues as well and I have found that the only way to feel good every day is to eat very little carbs. I do best on protein, veggies, and a small amount of low sugar fruits. That's not to say that I don't have treats once in awhile, but I definitely pay for it when I do. I'm getting to the point that some of that stuff doesn't even taste...
  20. I had a lot of stomach cramping and a severe pain that I thought was heartburn. Turns out I had low stomach acid instead of high (which I've read is common for us). Started taking HCl tablets with meals and it stopped the pain. Google low stomach acid symptoms and see if any of them fit what you are feeling. Just a thought.
  21. Boy do I understand this one!! I'm in a new position at work that requires me to make a certain number of Cold calls every day. I've been unable to do it successfully and it's getting ridiculous!! I don't want to lose my job and I desperately WANT to make these calls and do well at work. But everytime I try to pick up the phone, I freeze. And I've been...
  22. Ok I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you, but I'm so glad that it's not just me. Over the summer I was drinking white wine (which is normal for me in the summer). Now I haven't always had the greatest tolerance anyway, but I had 2.5 glasses and was REALLY sick. Never have I thrown up from drinking wine before. AND I ate a huge dinner. Now I...
  23. When I first went gluten free, my symptoms seemed to get worse before they got better...maybe it was a type of detox process. But I think my skin problems aren't just about gluten - I seem to react to almost all carbs. For the last couple weeks, I've been trying to stay away from even gluten-free breads, baked goods, etc, and my skin has cleared up again...
  24. I'm actually pretty convinced the majority of my problems are yeast related and not simply gluten. It all began in 2008 and I took myself off all sugar and most carbs. Started to get better, but not completely. Fast forward a few years and I started to get an itchy skin rash - thought it was DH. Derm says it's not, but I took myself off gluten anyway...
  25. I ate there today and did something really stupid. I didn't pay attention to the fact that the soup today was fire roasted vegetable vs. their country vegetable. One is gluten free - the other is most definitely not. So I got the one that is NOT and didn't realize it until I had eaten half the bowl. First time in months that I've been glutened...can't...
