I love homemade pickles. I may have to look into doing some this year, thanks for the idea. -

ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?

All of these gardens sound so nice! My husband found a small kale plant at Walmart when he went for $4, I'm not sure if they would have it around where you live though. We have never had kale before so we didn't go for that one. -

Grape vines would be nice. My stuff is all in pots too since I live in an apartment, but at least I get my fresh herbs -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
alex11602 replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight I'm roasting turkey breast, boiled potatoes with sauteed onions, barely steamed green beans, cornbread and I think pumpkin pie for dessert. Started off as trying to find something to go with turkey that was on sale and ended up looking like Thanksgiving. -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
alex11602 replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm thinking breakfast for dinner tonight. My husband always loved Chikfila's breaded chicken on biscuits in the morning with hashbrowns so I think that's what we will end up having. I'm going to use chicken breasts that we breaded and baked with almond flour last night and either make biscuits with almond flour or just make waffles out of the Namaste mix... -
Quick note on the soy in mayo...my mom found a Hellman's mayo that doesn't have soy for my daughter, it's made with canola oil and it tasted like the regular Hellman's.

ARCHIVED Soy Lecithin...?
alex11602 replied to Cujy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy lecithin is derived from soy which Celiacs can have from a gluten perspective. Of course you could be intolerant to soy, but as far as gluten goes it is not a concern. -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Tonight will probably just be chicken and rice with baby carrots for dinner (raw since that's the only way my 2 year old wants to eat them). Yesterday we went to my moms house and Easter dinner was completely gluten free We had ham, roasted potatoes, green beans, there were hardboiled eggs and I made cornbread mini muffins from the Bob's Red Mill mix... -

ARCHIVED Can You Share Your Easter Traditions?
alex11602 replied to Simona19's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Every Friday from Ash Wednesday to Easter my grandmother will not eat meat, of course that never worked for me because I don't eat fish. Saturday we dye Easter eggs for my family to eat on Sunday at dinner. My girls get a new Easter dress in Spring colors just like my sister and I did when we were little. This year they also picked out a matching dress... -
I think that in some instances it could be misdiagnosed if the specialist did not have the whole story. I know someone who was diagnosed with autism because he was antisocial, aggressive at times and just didn't have the skills that a child his age should have. The specialist that diagnosed him and pumped him full of meds is unaware that this boy is like...

ARCHIVED Do Celiacs Have To Avoid All Grains?
alex11602 replied to quincy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me a having a little bit of rice is key, because of my blood sugar issues I cannot go completely grain free so I serve a little bit of white rice with dinner, just found Namaste waffle mix for my girls which is primarily rice and will occasionally give my girls rice cakes. I definitely agree with Yolo about figuring out what your body needs though. -

ARCHIVED Paleo/primal Dieters
alex11602 replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
White potatoes are a source of carbs for some, I personally use these and I do occasionally have a bit of white rice to control my blood sugar. Sweet potatoes are a good source of carbs and other starchy vegetables like carrots. There are also carbs in other vegetables and fruits also. As far as how many grams of carbs you need, I actually feel it depends... -

Equate version of Zantac 150, it is gluten and dairy free according to Walmart. I was buying that one since it's only $4 for 65 tablets. -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?

I made waffles with the Namaste pancake and waffle mix and we had tomato, garlic and rosemary sausage on the side. -
Just head down to the Baking and Cooking Tips section and there are hundreds of threads with different ideas and recipes. I think that the What are you cooking tonight is one of the best for ideas personally.

Me too. And like Prickley grain free seems better for my sugar. Although I have noticed that if I have about 1/4 c of white rice or potatoes with dinner that I stay even more stable and will not wake up with my sugar in the 30s. I personally can't really tolerate sugar so I don't eat many fruits and too many veggies upset my stomach also right now so I make...

That's great that you were able to add them back in! And you gave me some hope for my daughter, she loves sweet potatoes but they were bothering her belly so we took them out and I want to trial them soon for her.

My two children have a problem with gluten and if I had known what I do now about Celiac I would still have had them. And if it was possible to my husband and I would have welcomed more children especially after finding out about Celiac since we would know not to start them on gluten til they were older. Actually with my youngest I probably would have kept...

ARCHIVED What Are Some Kid-Friendly Substitutes For
alex11602 replied to Blessedby3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are regular Kellogs Rice Krispies that have barley malt in them, they also make a gluten free one that has Gluten Free in huge letters on the front and the box is a bit of a different color. -
Unless you count my mother's house who is very careful when she cooks for my kids, we have not been out to eat in over a year since before we went gluten free. Eventually I may go to Five Guys, when I get less nervous about it, so my kids can have a fast food burger and feel like everyone else, but I have no desire to eat out at all. If we want something...

I have had some bad experiences with counselers, they tend to look down on you when you cut yourself. My husband is on his way back from the doctor with my daughter so he called me and she is ok, no infection or anything.

I guess I really should try to stop stressing about things that I can't control. I had an appointment to go to counseling to deal with the stress and anxiety, but I got extremely anxious about it and we cancelled. My two daughters and I started learning to sign using Signing Time about 2 years ago when the youngest was 6 months old and we found out about...
