ARCHIVED Sad, Frustrated, Need Support
howlnmad replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope the two of you don't use the same time system as well. Sorry, I think I have caused this thread to get a little off topic. Now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast. -
Me too, and not being a celiac, the only bottled water I drink that has wheat in it . It's called beer.

ARCHIVED Haz-Matting A Gluten Filled Kitchen
howlnmad replied to needsomeadvice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We prepare gluten foods all the time in our kitchen, sammiches for the grand kid and other things for myself with just a good clean up and wipe down afterwords. Hasn't seemed to bother the wifey yet. Only thing extravagant that I've done is take a torch and scraper to the grill grates and then put them through the the self cleaning oven cycle.- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Sad, Frustrated, Need Support
howlnmad replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
argybargy, I'm going to start by saying that I can't really help with any of the medical stuff, I'm not celiac but my wife is. But I can try and give you some help with the other issues. I had some real problems adjusting when my wife was diagnosed. I tried hard not to CC her but I would occassionally goof and ruin something for her. I didn't think... -

My wife gets upset when I hug strange women but in this case I'll do it anyway. Hugs to you and congrats.

ARCHIVED Significant Other To Celiac
howlnmad replied to tinydani's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know what's in plastic? PLASTIC! You want to go to the bar and get a drink but he's worried about gluten hands touching the straw? Easy fix.............................. bring his own. Better yet, go get one of those "Krazy Straws" and bring it with him. He'll be the life of the party. Hell, I'd probably buy a round just to watch. Coffee is over... -
ARCHIVED Significant Other To Celiac
howlnmad replied to tinydani's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, slow down a bit. First let me say that I don't but my wife does. It is possible to coexist and still live normal (someone needs to define that word) life. Your boyfriend needs to be searching for gluten-free places to eat or you can do it. He needs to put together a "go bag" with snacks, drinks and gluten-free stuff that he can bring along on road trips... -
ARCHIVED Fda´s New Gluten Free Labeling Regulations
howlnmad replied to Rebekka's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally, I think that this is a big step forward for those with celiac. At least with this, you can be sure of what you're buying. I'm sorry if you're that sensative that 20 or less parts per 1,000,000 will still make you sick. Maybe you can find a labratory thay can chemically engineer something you can eat. Sorry if some are offended by my statement... -

ARCHIVED How About A Reward For Avoiding Getting Glutened!
howlnmad replied to AlwaysLearning's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, honest. I have no idea what happened. I was just mowing the lawn and heard this load noise and saw dust flying. -
Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. The rocket launcher, sure thing.

Thats the one I want too. The rocket launcher is doable. Are you giving me permission to make and play with explosives? Just want to be clear on this. -

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Obviously he enjoys being uncomfortable and sick. -
ARCHIVED How About A Reward For Avoiding Getting Glutened!
howlnmad replied to AlwaysLearning's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nine months? What kind of reward are you looking for? And no, I didn't take you seriously. In fact, I think rewarding oneself is a great idea. If the wifey makes the week without poisoning herself, maybe I'll get her something shiny. Daddy wants a new deep fryer. WOOT WOOT! -

ARCHIVED How About A Reward For Avoiding Getting Glutened!

I always thought that not feeling like chit for days was a pretty damn good reward. Maybe I'm not as sensitive to this issue as I thought. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Advice
howlnmad replied to apislaeta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think that you're the one making him feel weak and volnerable, I think he's the one doing it to himself. I think it's nice of you to eat gluten free with him when you don't have to. We both generally eat gluten free except on pasta nights. My darling wifey will make me my own seperate pasta after she makes hers. We use the same sauces. It not a... -
It was pretty damn good. And I was very happy that she found this place. Now, if they would only deliver 750 miles.

Eating out is no longer your friend. Yes there are restaurants that offer gluten free menus but you're going to have to do some homework. Just because they offer this doesn't mean that they have a dedicated prep area and use dedicated pots and pans and such. Have you cleaned out your own pantry and cabinets? Get rid of the plastic containers, they may...
