ARCHIVED Gf Vanilla Pudding
gf4life replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kozy Shack Vanilla Pudding is gluten-free. In fact I am pretty sure all their puddings are gluten-free. I think they even say gluten free on the label. Jello puddings are gluten-free. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Guess How Long I've Had It!
gf4life replied to buluga's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, since we don't know how old you are it is hard to guess in years, but chances are you've had it since you were a baby! It just has been causing more problems the last 10 years or so. Welcome to the message board, and Congratulations on the diagnosis. You are now on your way to a new life of better health! God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Gf Easter Candy?
gf4life replied to GF-Jen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hersheys Eggs are not on that list, but wiht Hersheys policy of specifying gluten grains on the label you should be able to tell. They will be serving these to the kids at our church tomorrow, and I was reading the label today. They look safe to me. All of the "grain" derived products specify they are made from corn. I plan to let my kids have some. ... -
In Europe they use Wheat Starch and they believe it to be gluten free. I don't think I would try it. I just don't think it is worth the risk. I guess this is also a warning to double check all the labels on any gluten-free products that are made in Europe! I mostly buy products made in Australia and Canada, not because I don't trust the other countries...

ARCHIVED Afraid I Won't Be A Mommy
gf4life replied to gabrielle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My mom (who was the likely Celiac in my parents) had 7 children, plus 3-4 more miscarriages in her lifetime. She was never gluten-free and died of health complications at 44 years old. I was not diagnosed and on the gluten-free diet until after the birth of all three of my children. I had one possible (unconfirmed) miscarriage in between the boys. I... -
ARCHIVED Viactiv Multi-vitamins
gf4life replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I started taking the Viactiv calcium chews and also the Viactiv Multi-vitamin last week. I don't know why, but they are upsetting my stomach. This is why I stopped taking viatmins before, they make me feel dizzy and like I'm going to throw up. I just can't figure out why. I am going to stop taking the multi-vit and try just the calcium. Then if I still... -

I don't see why not. Let us know how it works with the BRM flour blend and the shortening. It might even work better! -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Tests Negative
gf4life replied to Lynne Billington's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Had you already tried her on the gluten-free diet before the blood tests?? If you did then that could have messed with the results. One book I read says that when you are gluten-free before the blood tests that it can take anywhere from 3 months to more than a year back on gluten for the damage to be done in the intestines enough to produce positive blood... -

ARCHIVED Snack Items I Can't Find
gf4life replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
gluten-free pretzels- The best price I have found is at Open Original Shared Link It costs $6.99 for a family sized bag that is 28 (1/2oz) servings. The have a very good selection of snacks and other gluten-free foods there, so if you find a lot of stuff the shipping isn't too much. It will also calculate the shipping cost as you fill your cart, so if... -
ARCHIVED Help! My Daughter Will Not Eat Fruit
gf4life replied to lbsteenwyk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you had her tested for a fruit sugar intolerance. I think they can test for this with a breath test. It may be that she is instinctively avoiding something that hurts her tummy. If this is the case and she can't digest the fruit sugars, then the doctor can order her some digestive enzymes that will help her to be able to better tolerate fruit. ... -
ARCHIVED Exactly What Tests Do I Need?
gf4life replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The way Prometheus works is that they run the bloodtests, and automatically run the gene test if the blood tests are negative. At least that is what their paperwork said when I filled it out for my kids. Then of course the insurance refused to pay, so the tests were actually run by Quest for a second time! The reason the pedi GI ordered the Prometheus... -

ARCHIVED Exactly What Tests Do I Need?
gf4life replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The food allergies test is called RAST, and they can check for many different foods. Usually they specify the top 8-10 allergen foods on the test order form. The celiac tests you need are: o Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA o Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG o Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA o Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) ... -
ARCHIVED 'nother Enterolab Question
gf4life replied to dfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, people do test negative with the Enterolab tests. They of course wouldn't be hanging around here but there are some people here who have had relatives test negative on the Enterolab tests. I think a lot of people do test positive though because the gluten sensitivity spectrum covers a much larger range of people than just Celiacs, and most people... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal Proceedure?
gf4life replied to jcgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can get the gene test done a few different places. The most respected in the medical field(at least ont he West Coast) is Prometheus Labs. Your doctor can order the tests for you, but check to make sure your insurance will pay for it. Mine wouldn't and it costs $750. The do the blood tests (complete panel) and if that is negative they automatically... -
ARCHIVED Cereal Question
gf4life replied to JacobsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The other flavors of Barbara's puffins cereals contain oats. This makes them not gluten-free, since all american grown oats are contaminated with wheat. If you have a Trader Joes you can usually get the Honey Rice Puffins (and a few other gluten-free cereals) cheaper there than at the health food stores. God bless, Mariann -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal Proceedure?
gf4life replied to jcgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They should have done the EMA, the anti-gliadin IgA & IgG, and also if possible the TTG! Some labs do either the EMA or the TTG, but it should still include the anit-giladin antibody counts! Yes you will have to go back on gluten to redo the blood tests, and they could still end up being negative. I went back and forth on the gluten-free diet for almost... -
ARCHIVED Frozen Food Items
gf4life replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the factory most veggies are quick frozen, so ice doesn't accumulate, but the moisture stays in the veggie. It could be that they are melting from being out of the freezer too long (in the cart, in the bag on the way home...) and the moisture is then feezing into a solid block in the freezer at home. This has happened to me, so I make sure I select my... -

ARCHIVED Question About E-mail Notification Of Topic Reply
gf4life replied to gf4life's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
celiac3270, It did send me one for your reply, which I checked a few minutes after you posted it. But Jessica had not posted yet. So I would have expected another e-mail when she posted more than 20 minutes later after I checked it... I don't know why it is doing this. It is just annoying. I do know that it will only send one even if there have been... -
ARCHIVED Delicious Cereal!
gf4life replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So Donna, My son who has some neurological issues (might be gluten related), I should try to keep him soy free?? I am allergic to soy, and so I limit it anyhow, but would that also include the soy oils? I'm not allergic to those and would those also cause problems. I have some neuological issues from gluten as well as my son... Please post any... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Downsides Of Enterolab?
gf4life replied to minivanmama0300's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would have loved to have gotten a biopsy of my DH blisters. Before my gluten challenge I only had them on my scalp. I would scratch them open before I realised what I was doing, so it was hard to get a referral to a dermatologist for that... During my gluten challenge I increased my normal amount of gluten intake and I got the rash all over my hands...
