  1. They need better testing..that's for sure. I wonder how long it will take to get this the norm for testing? At least someone is working on it!
  2. Well..it looks like you've got the nutrition stuff worked out pretty well? my sister has Crohn's and won't take the time to work out what she needs, so doesn't supplement at all. I guess she goes into overwhelm? If soy bothers you, it's possible that soy lethicin does as well? It bothers me..big time. It *could* feed into your insomnia? Ditto with the...
  3. I hear ya! I've tried numerous restrictions with no relief. I'm still having an off-balace feeling, sometimes ear pain/fullness and brain fog. Can't figure out how to get rid of it either. If it helps you feel better about not going to Dr.s and getting put on steroids, etc..I was put on them and they don't help one bit! They're making me hungry..but...
  4. Thay can do a hydrogen breath test for SIBO. I'm scheduled to have that done. You go in after a 12 hour fast and they have you breathe into a tube that has a device which measures the gases in your breath. Then they have you drink a solution and remeasure at certain time intervals. The gases that they read as you digest the solution tell them if you have...
  5. I've thought about ending it. If it were as easy as just going off gluten and everything would be fine..no problem. I seem to be reacting to more and more things though? I take away more favorite foods..and still not feeling good. I totally get your frustration. I see others around me blissfully living to eat, while I merely eat to live. I haven't renewed...
  6. I think most of us have felt frustrated..and angry at times? It may be that you are lacking some vitamins/minerals, OR maybe you have an additional food intolerance? I found that dairy made me have insomnia and mood swings. I'd have an overwhelming anger the day after I consumed dairy. With Crohn's you may not be absorbing everything you need from...
  7. You may have an additional food intolerance? It's something they can't really test you for. It's found by you keeping track of what you eat (a log) and any reactions you have. Many food reactions are a bit delayed so it will take some detective work. By doing this you may see a pattern of symptoms start to emerge? Omit anything you're suspicious of for...
  8. I'm not trying either..but thought I'd share that with both of my prgenancies my very first "tell" was breast tenderness. Good luck!
  9. Digestive enzymes are supplements you take to help break down and digest food. With Celiac disease, sometimes we aren't producing enough enzymes on our own. They also help break down the food so your already stressed digestive system doesn't have to work as hard, and hopefully you can absorb the vitamins/minerals better? You don't have to take them with...
  10. It's hard to know what shape your intestines were in if you weren't scoped before going gluten-free? If you have flattening of the villi, they won't absorb what you eat.. and you lose weight. It's possible you aren't eating as many carbs too? It takes a while to heal and absorb what you consume. When in the healing phase I recommend smaller amounts of...
  11. LOL! I never knew that.
  12. How confusing! If it were me..I'd stay gluten-free. You mention you've had a positive response to the gluten-free diet? Stay the course.
  13. Hello..and welcome! It's very common to go unDXed or mis-DXed. They say the average prson takes around 11 years to get a correct Dx. Like you, many Celiacs find out on their own that they're reacting to gluten. Many of us have additional intolerances. Once you go gluten-free the tests will not detect it. The only test they can do is the genetic...
  14. It's really a long process of finding out just what's right for your body isn't it? I can really relate to the two steps forward and one back part of it. I'm still having balance issues, but if they'd go away I'd feel pretty good! Wishing you continued improvement in this journey.
  15. I always advise fresh fruits and veggies,(frozen are fine too) non processed meats, seafood, eggs, and dairy if you tolerate it well. Keep things simple until you've done some healing. If you must have crunchy snacks, plain Fritos or corn chips, some potato chips, popcorn. You MUST read labels though, because things change all of the time. Coffee...
  16. 1)The neurological symptoms you got may have been caused by the gluten? 2)You haven't been truly gluten-free so your reactions aren't intensifying? 3)You may have an additional intolerance that you didn't consume with the gluten this time, so didn't get as strong of an effect? It's hard to say. Our systems change from day to day and so our reactions...
  17. This might sound weird..but write down a list of your symptoms when you were at your worst. If you're having a day where you're feeling anxious that you aren't healing..look at your list. I think you will be surprised to see that some symptoms have disappeared..or gotten less intense? It helps you realize you are making progress.
  18. If it were an actual million..and not taxed..and I only had to eat the bread once, I'd do it. I've suffered for free plenty of times. A million dollars could really change things for me and my family. For a thousand dollars...NO WAY!
  19. I'd be in the same boat with IrishHeart. I react to all 3 too. Even before I was DXed with Celiac I knew soy sauce bothered me.
  20. When I see that something is produced on shared equipment I won't eat it. I'm even nervous about a shared facility, because I have no idea what is shared..or if it's likely to come in contact with the gluten-free stuff? That's just me. I would call myself very sensitive though. I seem to react to things that some others can tolerate.
  21. Are the sedatives for you...or her? Haha I'll bet it feels good to have her home.
  22. Have you had your gallbladder tested? Could you be reacting to whatever you're putting on your bread? Dairy, peanut butter, soy or MSG in deli meats?
  23. It takes time. Your recovery time will be influenced by how much intestinal damage you have, your age, your state of health in general, how long you went unDXed, and whether you have vitamin deficiencies. Some people take months..some can take years. Be sure you have searched for any hidden gluten and give yourself time. Do things that are relaxing and...
  24. :D So good to know Ally did so well. She should improve a bit each day. It's normal for dogs to try to hide their pain. A survival instinct that's in their DNA. Make sure she doesn't overdo it..and gets the rest she needs?
  25. If you want to be tested for Celiac..continue to eat gluten. Take your list of questions/symptoms with you. Ask for a full Celiac panel. If you just go in and tell them a symptom or two they won't think to test for Celiac. It's not on a lot of Dr.s radar screens. Best wishes!
