  1. For tests results to come back with an accurate reading you have to be eating gluten regularly. Going off gluten will throw the tests off. They say you shouldn't go gluten-free until all testing is done, which includes an Endoscope, if they want to do one. If your tests come back negative, it's still a good idea to give the gluten-free diet a try to see...
  2. Maybe you're low on some vitamin/mineral that is triggering this behavior? I know chocolate craving can mean you need Magnesium. OR maybe it's a low blood sugar issue and your brain is telling you to feed it? Have you had a blood panel drawn recently? If not, it might be good to have things checked? I absolutely WILL NOT cheat on my gluten-free diet...
  3. I hope you work out something that helps you both sleep better. Ear plugs didn't work for me. I need to be able to hear household noises like the phone, dogs, and what about the smoke alarm? My hubby has a "home" CPap and a travel one, which is more compact. He travels for his job and goes to other countries. In Europe the airports really look the...
  4. It does sound like they're trying to get a rise out of you? It's hard enough navigating social situations without having these stupid comments. Maybe just have some sort of flipant comment ready and change the subject? Don't engage them, and they'll quit I'll bet? Good luck!
  5. He's at a difficult age. His wanting to fit in is clouding his judgement. I think I can safely say that during those teen years most, if not all of us, did something that might not have been very smart just to "fit in" and be accepted? In this case, it really is a life or death decision..much worse than many things kids come up against. When my boys...
  6. It looks like you're doing a great job of being gluten-free! It's scary though, that the person you talked to was so mis-informed. What if you had hung up the phone and went to have gluten pizza and beer to celebrate?

    ARCHIVED Why, Oh Why?

Wow..that's crazy! Good thing you found out. If they had a report of a previous neck injury it would have hurt your case. There were a LOT of false statements in my records. It was a Residency program I was going to and it looked like they were trying to make themselves look better in the reports, rather than stating the actual facts? In several...
  8. My hubby used to snore loud enough to wake the dead, but even worse..he'd stop snoring. I'd nudge him and he'd make a snort and resume. It got really bad and I insisted he see the Dr. about it. It turned out he has severe sleep apnea. He now uses a CPap machine. It's like sleeping next to someone on a noisy ventilator. I finally retreated to the guest...
  9. I have night sweats too. Not severe, but enough to wake me up and toss off the blankets. If you have been tested for yeast infection and STDs and are ok..apply coconut oil topically. It stops the burn and itch immediately. It contains caprylic acid which knocks out those itchies. I took some of the coconut oil that I use for cooking and put it...
  10. I had negative blood work, but strongly positive biopsy. They say as many as 20-30% of us test that way. I had a second endoscope 6 months later. Again, I had a positive biopsy for Celiac.
  11. I agrre, your problems may be another food intolerance? Soy causes me more symptoms than gluten. It even causes bone pain that lasts for days. Many of us have additional intolerances. It's very common. It's difficult to know what you're reacting to without a bit of detective work. Keep a log of all food you eat. Note any symptoms, even if you don...
  12. Sometimes kids test negative because they don't produce a normal amount of IGA. It's hard to know if the original testing was accurate? It does sound like she's gluten intolerant at the very least? I agree it might be a good idea to have her retested before going gluten-free. That's your call of course. good luck to you all!
  13. Welcome to the forums! You've had a long time to adjust to a gluten-free life style. Maybe we can pick your brai....I mean, maybe we can share ideas on how to navigate social functions? Deltron..I just love it when you speak French.
  14. Err..forgot to answer to the "case of the missing wheat bread"..We ain't gonna go looking for it! LOL
  15. Many of your symptoms could point to Celiac. Some of your sons' too? If going on gluten for testing is affecting you I think you have part of your answer? Be aware that some of us have negative blood tests but have Celiac or gluten intollerance in spite of those tests. Once your testing is done, try a very strict gluten-free diet. You don't need a DX...
  16. Sometimes as the body settles down from fighting gluten it can react to other foods. Keep a log of everything that you eat. Note any symptoms you feel. Many reactions are delayed. The log will help to figure it out. If you have damaged villi, you are probably not producing enough of the enzyme to digest lactose in milk, sour cream, and ice cream. Cheeses...

    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

I'm a list maker. Try to keep it simple though. Many Dr.s see you whip out a list and get nervous. Be aware that they are probably allowing 15 minutes for your visit. List your meds/supplements, List your symptoms, have your questions ready. Make it simple to scan and evaluate. Add notes as needed. Be sure they address your concerns. With some Dr.s you...
  18. We have a shared household, because I'm the only one that has to be gluten-free. I have a seperate toaster, cutting board, cast iron pans, and we have 2 can openers(different colors). We have one cast iron griddle for the gluten eaters. We share stainless steel pans which are rinsed right after use then washed in the dishwasher. We have no gluten flour...
  19. I'm SO happy for you Alex! I went through the anxiety and panic attacks years ago. Just the thought of leaving the house would give me an attack. At first I did best with a "safe" person with me. Each time I went out for a bit and had success I gained more confidence that everything would be OK. I finally went on a mild medication and the panic attacks...

    ARCHIVED Why, Oh Why?

My hubby and I were just discussing this very topic last night. Each specialist has their own little narrow description of the feild that they specialize in, and if you have symptoms that fall outside of that narrow field, they either tell you there's nothing wrong with you..or pass you on to someone else! AND they mostly want to just prescribe a chemical...
  21. Loves..I wouldn't want your weather..no way..no how! We've had temps way above normal most of the winter so far. It's just turning colder with wind chills below 0. We are expecting 3-6" of snow. I'm watching with a nervous eye as I wait for my call to go to the Mayo Clinic. It looks like they'll be getting snow too? Sylvia..you can still go..just...
  22. I watched the show and it was better than the last episode he did on gluten. I think he glossed over the topic in some areas because of the time factor? Still...he's putting the idea on people's radar. For those that aren't getting answers or relief from various symptoms from their Dr.s, they now know to mention it. As far as the glue on envelopes..maybe...
  23. thanks so much for your responses. I sort of crashed yesterday. I got like I was going to faint when I went for my allergy shots. I came home and sat down and got very weak and dizzy..and threw a couple of PVCs (short burst odd heart beats) Which then gave me chest pain and an axiety attack. I thought maybe it was low blood sugar, so I quickly ate a yogurt...
  24. I wondered about a yeast overgrowth. How do they test for that? My new PCP has told me he is willing to order tests if I want. I just need to tell him which ones to ask for. He's 93, and very sweet, but he told me that Celiac was a rare disease, so I don't think he knows much? The new GI ran the genetic test. He said I test negative. He has suggested...
