  1. I've been sick for a long time. I kept telling my Dr. I felt awful and had pain in my upper right quadrant, sometimes nausea. My Dr. ordered a gallbladder ultrsound in May 2010. It showed no stones, and my Dr. said there was nothing wrong with me.."eat Tums". I had rectal cancer in 2003, so having digestive "issues" scared me. I also had a yeast infection...
  2. There can be other causes for flattened villi, so if you are still having problems it may be time to look at them as the source for your symptoms? https://www.celiac.com/articles/50/1/Main-Causes-of-Flattened-Villi/Page1.html
  3. Whew! Waiting is the worst isn't it? I'm SO glad it's not luekemia. Hopefully, the additional tests will help pin down what you're needing? That Dr. sounds like a keeper to me!
  4. You've been given a good list of migraine triggers, but thought I'd add...you may need a folic acid supplement if you're not getting enough in your diet/or aren't absorbing it well? A deficiency has been linked to migraines, and since you are getting them daily it would suggest it's something you're lacking, rather than something you're ingesting every day...
  5. I'm so glad you're doing better. I think we kind of expect we're going to feel fantastic right away once going gluten-free and when we don't we get frustrated? Stay with a mostly whole foods diet (meat, veggies, fruits, eggs, and dairy only if you tolerate it.) If you eat gluten-free versions of processed foods it isn't good for healing.
  6. After going gluten-free I found that soy was giving me symptoms. Keep a log of everything you eat and note when you notice a symptom. There can be a delayed reaction with some intolerances and having a log will help you sort out if you have something else "getting you". At the top of the list is soy, dairy, and eggs. Good luck in solving this puzzle...
  7. You may need a calcium/magnesium supplement? A deficiency in those can cause sleep problems. Low iron can cause insomnia too.
  8. Yes. Damage can be patchy, so getting a sample for biopsy can be tricky. That's why they say around 8 samples is best. Also, the scope doesn't reach through the whole small intestine. You could have damage outside of the reach of the scope? In addition, maybe your Ceiac was caught before you have noticeable damage? I hope so! If your blood test was...
  9. I'm taking the Culturelle along with Power Dophilus, switching them each day. I don't know if they're helping..but they're sure not hurting. I just started giving the probiotics to my dog. He had an ear infection and was on antibiotics. Now I see a bit of yeast in his ears. He's getting galic caps too. Those yeast are nasty buggers.
  10. Err..um..just a hug then? I went to the grocery store today and didn't have any problems. I dunno if they weren't mixing any baking ingredients up, or if I just didn't react?
  11. Tocopherols can come from wheat or brown rice, but is usually soy. I can't take supplements with it because I react to the soy.
  12. I'm so glad you were able to have mac & cheese. I've found the So Delicious coconut milk in the dairy cooler, but they make it in cartons that can sit on the shelf unrefrigerated..until you open it of course.
  13. I'm SO happy you're getting some relief! I hope the trend continues. Bummer about the side effect though. I remember a time when I had put on a few pounds and had to lay back on the bed to fasten my favorite jeans...ah, the good old days.
  14. LOL..I copied and forwarded this to my sister. Her hubby is the kind of guy that just might actually do this stuff!
  15. It would be wonderful if it would help her son! So far so good..for me. Give your Dr. a hug for me too...and what the heck..squeeze his butt a little too?!
  16. I would also like to get off my GERD meds someday too although that's a bit more doubtful b/c I think I have some mechanical issues that are unlikely to change. I have been on PPI med for a long time for severe GERD. Since I think my gluten and soy were causing it, I recently asked my new Dr. if he thought I could try going off the PPI? He said to...
  17. I've been on a PPI for acid reflux for years. I wondered, now that I'm not ingesting wheat or soy, which may have been the cause of my GERD, if I could safely go off it and try Zantac instead? I have a reduced gallbladder function and need digestive enzymes when I eat. I asked the Dr. what he thought about me stopping the PPI and maybe trying an H2 blocker...
  18. That's ok! It's fine to ask. Sometimes it's nice to know if you're way outside of "normal"? OR..is a slow healing time normal when you're having digestive/absorption problems? I had a bone spur and ganglion cyst removed from my index finger just recently and it took 5 weeks for the incision to heal. It seemed like a long time to me? In general, slow...
  19. When first going gluten-free you can't digest milk properly. It can cause bloating and gas. If you are reacting to soy, be aware that chocolate usually has soy lethicin in it. Some people don't react to it, but I do. That has taken chocolate away from me. I'm going to try it again later, once I've healed more. Maybe have that on your "watch list"?
  20. For me, it's the inconvience..AND the secondary sensitivities that are popping up! I was running errands today and got shaky. I had to go to grocery store and get a couple of bananas.
  21. I would suggest that you just omit the foods that you know you react to? If you weren't tested for Candida or small intestine bacterial overgrowth the Dr. may be prescribing meds you don't need? Maybe go without them for a bit and use the meds later if you feel you want to? If you want something hot to drink..maybe hot water with lemon and honey? Honey...
  22. Maybe you should try lower doses of the probiotic? Maybe take it a couple of times a week to start? Cuturelle also has Inulin (chicory root extract), so maybe you're reacting to that? I'm taking Culturelle AND Power Dophilus, so I have a variety of good guys to fight my battles in there. My son has had a horrible cold and I'm shocked that I haven...
  23. gluten can affect the body and not cause obvious digestive issues. Blood work can also come back negative. When you go to your Dr.s appointment be sure to tell him about any family health issues with gluten. It's also possible that your son has an intolerance to dairy, soy, or other lectins? They can cause villi flatening that might cause malabsorption...
  24. Doh! I forgot to add...once I went gluten-free my blood pressure lowered on it's own. I was able to quit taking my blood pressure meds. I guess the inflammation that gluten causes can raise one's blood pressure?
