ARCHIVED Acne Clearing Up On Gluten-Free Diet?
AVR1962 replied to suziq0805's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes! I have had acne since I was 13, I am 48. Not only did my face clear up but the puffiness I had went away. My red skin turned white. It was so noticable that even my friends commented on how good my skin looked. And, what I thought was a mole, now know as DH, that kept coming and going also went away. It is amazing what a gluten-free diet can do for you... -
ARCHIVED Heartburn As A Gluten Reaction
AVR1962 replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Look at what you are eating. It is possible you are getting too much acid thru your foods. I had to go to a low acid diet and if I eat anything that might cause irritation I take an antacid before. If something I eat gives me issues aftr eating it I take Pepto. A low acidic diet really could help you though! -
ARCHIVED Getting Desperate For Answers
AVR1962 replied to tdogg097's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Assuming you can still receive med coverage even without a diagnosis, I would go off gluten. I went thru something rather similiar and could not make it to my test because I was too sick. I went back to doc, basically I wanted it documented in my records. Bottom line in all this testing is we have to do what makes us feel better. Testing for celiac is not... -

ARCHIVED 100% Gluten Free And Still Symptomatic
AVR1962 replied to IWannaSammich's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't read all the replies so if this is a repeat of advise, my apologies. If your gut is still noisy I would say it is not just gluten giving you trouble. It may take eliminating one by one to figure out what. Foods to watch out for are: soy, dairy, high fructose, gums such as guar and xanthun. Have you had your thyroid checked? if all is good I would... -
ARCHIVED Help,,,, About Being Glutened?
AVR1962 replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Other things that get me are high fructose, xanthun gum, guar gum. Is your kitchen REALLY clean? Did you throw out the toaster, not using the pasta strainer, etc. I did a thorough clean up of my kitchen when I found I wasn't getting better. -
ARCHIVED Amazing Self Administered Gluten / Soy Test
AVR1962 replied to Tom2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
An uncle of mine did this with a homeopathic doc. He stopped eating wheat and determined his body was filled with lead and mercury. It sounded very intereresting when he told me. I should try it. -
ARCHIVED Please Help! New Celiac In Need Of Advice
AVR1962 replied to MandaSue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
By chance would there be any xanthun gum in the gluten free products you used to make the recipes? It does not set well with me. -
Sorry you're having such a rough time. Our bodies are realy really amazing and they try very hard to repair themselves but when overtasked the healing takes time. If you can do as your doc has suggested I think his advise is good, and hopefully by adding these things to your routine more healing will come. Good thing is you know what you can eat. You may...

ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
AVR1962 replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
By the sounds of it all your stomach is not only having trouble digesting but it is full of acid. It's a good thing you are speaking with a dietician. Stay away from all acidic foods. You do need to find some way to coat the stomach. If you are not eating dairy, and I personally would not suggest it right now, I hope there is something you can take that won... -

ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
AVR1962 replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I read your orginal post. My sitaution is amazingly similiar to your and I think you will be able to identify. I was in ER last Feb, heart was doing crazy things, blood pressure was high (never had high blood pressure) but docs could not find out what was wrong and that's where my journey began. Low and behold, the culprit was a herbal liver cleanse! Not... -
ARCHIVED I Need Help Understanding
AVR1962 replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Another thing to look at is salicylates. You mentioned DH and I can tell you that a gluten free diet will take care of that, however look up "salicylate foods" and to see if these too could be causing you issues. If you are not eating the foods listed it is probably the DH itself that is causing the itching. Carageenan makes me sick. I would have to do... -

Put cauliflower, squash and potatoes in chicken broth, mashed the veggies down like mashed potatoes and served it with a vegetable based gluten-free gravy. It actually turned out pretty good, and loaded with nutrients! -
ARCHIVED Tinnitus And Balance Problems/mild Vertigo
AVR1962 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All too familiar. I will experience vertigo from taking in some of the gums like guar gum, and high fructose will do the same for me but it will be gone in 3 days, thank goodness. The one I had the harder time with was the issues related to gluten. For 6 months I have continued to clean up my diet and I have been extremely careful. Made many mistakes and... -
ARCHIVED How Long B-4 Brain & Body Working?
AVR1962 replied to Tom2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Tom, like you, my search took too long all the while my body suffering from something that is completely preventable....too bad testing isn't more accurate. I am 48 and what finally got me was the neuro issues, I was losing my hair, I was bearely able to function. It felt like I had Alzheimer's and I was afraid I had MS, crazy what gluten can do for you.... -
Everything you have described is so normal. It is a real adjustment and it takes time to wrap your head around all this. We basically have to give up our old cozy eating habits and find a new way to eat, and at first that seems real limiting. However, once you get the hang of what you can and cannot have your world starts opening up to more options. There...

ARCHIVED Vision Issue, What Is This?
AVR1962 replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Follow up- bought some cod liver oil tabs which contain 1250 IU vit A each (25% of daily allowance) and 130 IU vit D. I am taking 3 tabs a day like the bottle suggests and I am noticing a big difference already. My body was in need of vit A!! -
ARCHIVED I Still Feel So Horrible
AVR1962 replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could very well be reacting to something else, considering your diet is clean. I can't have high fructose, guar gum or xanthun gum. All give me digestive issues and make my world spin for about 3 days. Many here can't have soy. Read labels, keep a journal and you shjould be able to figure out what is giving you issues. Salad dressings can have hidden... -

ARCHIVED Vision Issue, What Is This?
AVR1962 replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had my eyes checked and a MRI was performed with no results. Eye doc asked if I had been tested for diabetes which I had. He did give me a prescript for driving glasses but that made no difference.
