ARCHIVED Dh And Sores On Gums
pricklypear1971 replied to dani nero's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well, if you've been gluten-free a while you probably can explain it . My "cycle" for DH runs about 2 weeks since I'm gluten-free (meaning when something goes wrong and I get a rash). I am always so thankful when the constant itching stops. Keep it moisturized and baby the skin. And don't feel guilty, be happy! -
ARCHIVED Finally Seeing A Dr., Suggestions?

Go to the University of Chicago Celiac Center website and print out some of their 1page info sheets. They have one detailing testing. -
ARCHIVED How To Proceed
pricklypear1971 replied to fluttersmj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You'd see something about dq2/dq8 if they did genetic testing. I doubt tgey did it of it isn't there. If you do get genetic testing, make sure they look at all alleles and you get the FULL REPORT. LabCorp is a good one - they look at alpha and beta. Their report is awful, though, as far as interpretation and they give a summary that is yes/no. You don... -
ARCHIVED Still Snacking Too Much
pricklypear1971 replied to rain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am in what is apparently an evil cycle: Celiac, Hashimotos, adrenals, and hormones. The more I read about the sugar and cortisol and hormone issues the more I find my symptoms. And sugar is a big deal - meaning its estrogenic to the body, messes with cortisol, the digestive system doesn't like it...it goes on and on. So, you may be in a cycle like that... -
ARCHIVED Back From A Trip
pricklypear1971 replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's unfortunate about the pears. I don't know if this makes sense but was it a sweet, ripe pear? Some pears are very soft and sweet (ripe), and others very hard and almost tart. Varies by variety, also. If you suspect it's the sugar level perhaps try one lower in sugar? Or, it could just be pears. Sorry. I don't remember the specific issue you... -
ARCHIVED Iga Numbers?
pricklypear1971 replied to gracie25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's hard to get a + blood test in a child - especially a 3 year old. If there's a + of any type, with the family history, that's a huge red flag. Biopsy if you feel best but I'd bet you've got another gluten problem. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Means No Coffee?
pricklypear1971 replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suggest not taking gluten-free advice from the general public (this board is not the general public). My FIL thought I potatoes had gluten in them, and cookies didn't....and some people think all cheese has gluten in it... So, my point is, get used to heart attacks. And get used to hearing some incredibly stupid, uninformed stuff. And get... -
ARCHIVED Hot Flashes In Men! Blisters Around Penis!
pricklypear1971 replied to pastlife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, actually, surgery can be an autoimmune trigger....so surgery could trigger ai but gastric bypass won't specifically cause Celiac. There is a difference if you get my drift? I think I've seen where HIV can make some Celiac tests come up false +, but don't know if the opposite is true. If they do biopsies on the sores, you could ask for a dermatitis... -

Oh, I'd pm eatmeat or someone else who is better at sals. I get the obvious ones but don't know a thing about supplaments. -

I understand. I'm like that with sushi. Its pretty limited gluten-free, but toss in li and I'm down to sashimi which is basically raw fish. I can do a little bit of seaweed but not much, and I still get a spot on my arm as a thank you. -

I'm so glad things are improving. Hopefully as the iga fades you can increase sals. -

ARCHIVED Mike's Lite Hard Lemonade...
pricklypear1971 replied to jessthirtytwo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ugh. The memories. Give him the Gatorade speech too. You do realize he may ask you what you want to know on both subjects - and give you a few drink recipes by now, right? -
Unless you have a stainless steel one that you can scour with an abrasive, I doubt you'll get the sticky stuff out of the mesh. I tried. No cigar. That stuff is like glue. gluten-free starches are like cement. I bought some stainless ones that I can scour down and even those are tough.

ARCHIVED Still Snacking Too Much
pricklypear1971 replied to rain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My sugar tests extremely normal. But not if I monitor it after every meal during one of those hypo episodes . I've found I don't do well with swings more than 15 points. Which means sticking to a low sugar diet - lots of fiver and protein but tons of veggies. Less fruits. Few grains. Almond flour baking is my friend, as well as fatty stuff (ssssh... -
ARCHIVED Question About Fish Oil Supplements
pricklypear1971 replied to jennynic's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There was a thread on here a while ago, and the amount (in general) is supposed to be very low. That said, call the manufacturer and ask if they know. It varies by manufacturer, source, process. I personally stayed away from fish oil and used flax for about 9 months - and haven't noticed any problems since I added it a few weeks ago. -
ARCHIVED Need Advice, What To Do?!
pricklypear1971 replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you and the preacher should have a nice convo over some gluten-free food. Perhaps you could cook for him? He'd probably appreciate a safe meal. Then ask for his help with your problems with your frenemies. It may help him face a few demons of his own, if you know what I mean?? -
ARCHIVED Need Advice, What To Do?!
pricklypear1971 replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not saying you have anything against the preacher, but if you start using him as an example of what happens if a Celiac doesn't adhere to strict guidelines (ie:yours), your snarky little frenemies and everyone else will go after you for attacking the poor preacher. I'd try talking to him one to one. You never know, you may be able to help each other... -

ARCHIVED Need Advice, What To Do?!
pricklypear1971 replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My thought is you'll get nowhere fast trying to use him as an example of what NOT to do. People have a very big blind spot when it comes to people in his profession. You may also consider that his choice to risk cc is part of his job (as weird as this sounds). A person in his profession would risk a lot of negativy by not accepting meals offered from... -
Everyone is different. For me, a recurrence is less severe but runs the same course (2weeks). Before gluten-free it would just never go away....

Demand a full Celiac panel. Ask for a Celiac biopsy in addition to any other if they scope. If they refuse your testing, find another doctor. If you don't feel up to fighting with the doctors, go gluten-free on your own. But please try it. Let me add, you must be eating gluten for accurate Celiac testing. So try to get testing first. But please don...
