  1. The DH lesions can be tiny. And they evolve...mine certainly did. Trust me, you don't want to go there. If your rash gets better off gluten, you have a gluten related rash. You have a problem with gluten. That simple. Don't let any doctor persuade you otherwise. I'm glad you've figured it out and that your gastro symptoms are improving! And yes,...
  2. That's true. But I always see the boiled eggs in packs of 6 or so. Chips aren't enough (no protein) and I have a horrible time finding safe nuts around me (except TJ's). Every place is different, though. It's tough in the desert - when it heats up there's no way you can keep anything in the car without a cooler and ice. 7) keep a cooler in your...
  3. I prefer to think of myself as a late re-bloomer .
  4. It gets annoying having to buy stuff you don't want a lot of...but hey - if I'm stupid enough to wander out without a backup plan I deserve to eat a box of deli ham? I just wish they sold room temperature gluten-free bread at most grocery stores. I can't find it here unless it's a "natural" store. But there are always crackers (but that's messier). ...
  5. Da rules: 1) Always have something with you - nuts, jerky, granola bar. 2) grocery stores are the new fast food joints til you find safe restaurants around you. 3) everyone is different 4) today is today, tomorrow can be totally different 5) generally, it's better to eat a protein with a carb (in this case the fruit is the carb). Toss in a...
  6. Well, I was tired of cooking so we went out. I snuck Tostitos into my favorite Mexican joint so I could eat the salsas (they have a shared fryer so chips are out) and guzzled two Cadillac margaritas. In-house soft corn tortillas with a beef/bacon mix and chicken/bacon mix saut
  7. Let's not forget us halfies! You want to know the funny thing about knowing the genes??? I'm the one with issues but we found out hubs carries at least half a dq2, also (but different than mine) because it showed up in son's test. And his half a dq2 put him statistically at higher risk than me with my two half copies (dq2, dq8). Go figure. So...
  8. She forgot the butter .
  9. Oh geez. How is that doc not strung up by his heels in a public forum??
  10. I don't know if you can do anything to stop a new intolerance. You can rebuild your digestive system - diets like SCD are supposed to do that. I have been adding probiotic foods to my list - naturally fermented pickles, sauerkraut, kimchee. Found them at whole foods and other natural food stores. I'm going to make coconut milk kefir, too (no dairy). ...
  11. Well, it may be worth trying to figure out if you are NCGI or Celiac because there are currently different maintenance checklists for your healthcare. Right now, the advice is for vitamin/mineral testing, bone scans, diabetes testing, thyroid testing for Celiacs. I don't read the same advice for NCGI but wouldn't be surprised if it happens soon since the...
  12. Tsh, TPO, and free t3/t4 are NOT normal blood work, unless you have an autoimmune savvy doc. Get copies of all your labs, as advised above. Thyroid problems, like Celiac, can shred your world. Don't know any other way to accurately put it.
  13. Did they get your meat and veggies from fresh bins? At the Subways near us I watch them dip hands into bins, smash bread, repeat. They put stuff on sandwiches, take it off and toss it back in the bins. No way I'd ever eat from those bins.
  14. Mono has been mentioned many times in my readings over the years as an autoimmune trigger. Try googling "autoimmune trigger" and see what you come up with. I had a great sheet about endometriosis and autoimmune diseases that I can't find. But it was a great listing of triggers.
  15. My advice - don't worry about it. You know you have a bug, and with that, all bets are off. When/if you are glutened/milked, and you react clearly, you'll know it and it will suck. Unfortunately it will happen soon enough. I hope you feel better soon. Wondering what's going on is no fun and a virus is just yuck.
  16. I can only say I've been there and I understand. If its any consolation (in a sick, twisted way) if you do have an issue with gluten, and it does invoke symptoms like D or C or nausea - you will probably NOT have a hard time staying away - once you make the correlation. Because when it becomes clear, it typically becomes VERY clear. And you will avoid...
  17. I'm not ever cooking again. Well, maybe in a few days?? Tonight, we're having leftovers. Leftover pork roast stuffed with garlic and peppe and dripping gravy, sweet potato casserole, asparagus, rice, fruit salad, lemon meringue pie, and carrot cake cupcakes....
  18. Do you have a salicylate issue? I may have an issue with mint oil, or processed mint oil, or maybe not mint at all (toothpaste is ok). Specifically I have a problem with Andes Mints and Junior Mints, but nothing else made with those ingredients listed - but made by other manufacturers. I haven't noticed a problem with any herbs, even fresh mint....
  19. In the beginning, lots of weird things are going to happen. Don't sweat the single occurrence, look for patterns. I'd watch milk, assuming that Mac n cheese has milk in it not soy, etc. or, it could just be one of those days.
  20. If he has Dermatotis Herpetiformis, a skin version if Celiac, NSAIDS can aggrivate it even in the absence of gluten. I don't have any idea about the swelling. He could have other food intolerances. Milk, soy, corn, etc. can cause symptoms that are as bad or worse than gluten. I hope you find the root of the problem.
  21. Yes, it can take a long while to correct the deficiencies. I'm 9 months gluten-free and last labs showed they are going up but not where they need to be. It takes time.
  22. I had weird, traveling pain across my chest area. Turned out to be ripped cartlilidge between my ribs. Cartridge doesn't show up on X-ray, and doesn't have nerve endings...so the "paIn" travels until it hits a nerve ending. I had X-rays, ekg's, barium X-rays (which also showed stomach ulcers an hiatal hernia). Dx'ing the cartlilidge tear was a tough one...
  23. I picked up my hormone cream today... Saw a little ditty taped to the counter about a Tulane study that found how menstruating women tend to find certain male facial types attractive depending on where they are in their cycle: ovulating women prefer handsome, rugged types, etc. Perimenopausal and Menopausal women prefer men with duct tape on their...
  24. I don't want to cook, because I'm thinking about what im cooking for Easter. Sandwiches?
  25. That about sums it up.
