  1. Yes, I second (or third) the MSG. I ate some stuff with an MSG-type additive in it (there's a group of them) and it was ugly.
  2. Maybe a different batch, but doubtful. They were both the same grain. One was just harder than the others. It was weird.
  3. Salicylates. Bromines. Those are the two things I've heard are related to DH and can be triggers. Google them and see if one rings a bell. Sals are seemingly in everything, and seem to be cumulative. I know the low iodine diet is restrictive, but if its part of the problem you've GOT to reduce it. It made me flare by itself. No gluten cc required. You...
  4. You're welcome! Glad you liked it!
  5. I have been going through gluten-free blogs setting up feeds and looking for ideas and spotted this. I know some here have been wanting hot chocolate but couldn't find a df substitute. Here's an idea! Open Original Shared Link
  6. Okay, I almost fell out of my chair, giggling. I lived in TX a long time, never heard of this but hey, I can learn. As far as I can tell its gluten-free. Of course, you may want to wait til spring. Or not. Open Original Shared Link
  7. Have they done an endoscopy to see what's going on?
  8. Have you tried running them under hot water to refresh them? I think Ancient Harvest corn/quinoa tastes better reheated than Jovial brown rice. But the reverse is true freshly cooked. I've found a lot of variation between brands, even if the ingredients are the same. I've had to cook some longer, some shorter. Most are better al dente.
  9. You sound like me!!! I was thinking a visit to IKEA (magnetic strip) and my favorite cutlery online store might be justified! Aaaahh, joy joy. I do admit I started switching to knives where the handle and blade are forged of one piece of metal...BECAUSE I had a handle break during use and cut my hand badly. And they are much easier to clean, btw...
  10. I actually tried both last week. As far as I can tell, all was ok.
  11. Funny you posted this. I am in Tucson, but I didn't buy my last bag at Sunflower. Anyway, I noticed IN THE SAME BAG one bun had a different texture than the other two I thawed. What's up with that???
  12. I think you should go to an appointment before you make up your mind. I struggle with the same question. Things to consider: 1) If you take her gluten-free can she go through a gluten challenge later if needed? Most people who have a gluten issue just can't do it. 2) Will a doctor dx her Celiac or NCGI without it? 3) How badly do you need the dx for...
  13. Oh geez. I think you should be tested, how's that? I'm from the south, too. I love(d) to bake, too. You can adapt your cooking to Celiac, I promise. Baking is more of a challenge, but it can be done. Get tested. Goodness, you have a doc who sounds supportive. That's worth a lifetime of biscuits right there.
  14. As heartbreaking as it can be, because those brushes can be hard to replace, you may want to consider it. I've never been able to get them totally clean. Ditto for the bag. I know mine won't clean up to save my life. But yours may be different. If soap and water does it, you're fine.
  15. Find a new Pediatrician. Seriously. For the reasons mentioned above, for the reason that if any Celiac test comes back + in a child its a huge red flag.... And most of all because the child's mother is "mysteriously" ill with something that appears to be gluten related. I mean REALLY??? What does he plan on doing with that "false positive"?...
  16. Funny you ask. I have a closet full of old (meaning Pre gluten-free) emergency food I'm donating. I think the key is rotation. They tell you to eat what you store and now it's truer than ever. Nut bars - nature valley has a gluten-free one Fruit bars - there's at least one gluten-free one... Mixed bars - Laara, Kind Chips Nuts Dried fruit Canned...
  17. Ask your doctor if he plans on asking you to do one after the 2 month trial. If he says yes 1) find a new doc 2) tell him no, if you want it you must do it now. Ask if he now considers you Celisc or will dx you based on bloodwork and challenge (or inability to challenge more likely). You probably do have Celiac, and once you are off gluten you probably...
  18. I think the classic "too much b" symptom is diarrhea. But who knows...its different with everyone!
  19. I made this tonight. Very good. Of course, Picky Child wouldn't eat it. Hubs did ask where the Schar rolls were. He doesn't like Udi's.
  20. Yes! Oh, the thought of lovely new food on my kitchen! I hope you don't murder small children that boycott your cooking. Because that's where I'm at right now.
  21. Yes. Soap, water, barkeeper's friend. Get up by the handle quite well.
  22. Well, I can't help with the product knowledge but broth is easy. Take a whole chicken (giblets removed) and place in a big pot. Cover with water. Add a few onions, garlic, stalks of celery, bay leaves, peppercorns, carrots and simmer til cooked. Remove chicken, debone. Save the meat and either add the bones back to the pot and simmer more or strain and...
  23. Fabulous! I'll start shopping now, just send me the list and flight number!
  24. I have squid ink! Not really, but of you come visit I'll find some .
