  2. Food, If your willing to read and ask question you will get all the help here you need. You will probably find out that you dont need a dietition to help you, most dont. First off, if you buy "gluten-free" versions of gluten food, like bread, you will pay alot more. Dont do that if you need cut back. Drop from your diet the worst offendors in...
  3. Oh the pre-made mixes are easy. You'll be fine as long as you can follow simple directions
  4. Heh, wonder if I was one of your students? To give you a real life example of what is described... First off I have ADHD, Dyslexia, and several other learning imparments that are not celiac disease related. (Currently am NEGATIVE for celiac disease but redoing the test). These impariments put me in the specail ed system. This is dating back about 20 - 2...

    ARCHIVED Ironic

I tell you what I am gonna be upset if I am not celiac disease when I get tested in NOvember, so I know how you feel. celiac disease would be a nice ANSWER with an assoicated ACTION to take to FIX the PROBLEM.
  10. If the blood test is postive, then why bother with a bisopy? I know some docs feel they need it, but think about it for a min, its a bit silly. If you know your celiac disease already, the biosopy is just extra money and extra risk. I suggest you say NO to the biospy and go gluten-free. Remeber a "negative" (read non-postive) bisopy does nothing for you,...
  11. Centrum is gluten-free (execpt Centurm silver) and you can find that just about anywhere.
  12. From what I can tell, by askign simular question of others wth celiac disease ppl the "norm" seems to be that symptons set in 2-4 hours after getting gulten, and last around 2 weeks with the worst impact in the first 3-5 days. My son falls with in that patern perfectly at least.
  13. I dunno that I can add much to what has been said... but I am a father wth a 2year old son that had the same blood/bsipoy done around the age of your child. If I can answer any speicifc questions let me know! It gets better... once you start the gluten-free diet and start seeing your child getting better and better, and growing normaly again, all the stress...
  14. If we assume for a minute they are, theres still a problem with the oat themselves. Its hotly debated with or not its "close" enough to gluten to case the same reaction. Some ppl swear up and down and post links, etc that it is, others argue that its not. SO even if the oats are not contimated by wheat, theres still a risk with them.
  15. No one else in my family has it. And as far as we know I was born with a healthy heart. BUT heres the thing it only shows up in a EKG, or other heart scan (MUGA, Echocardiogram, etc). My first EKG at a docs offics was when it was discovered, so no way to know when it set in. I was 27 or 28 at the time.
  16. I am to young for this, not even hit middle age yet, but couple years ago I was diagnosed with heart condition. Its likly it been there most of my life, but unknown till a radom EKG was run on me with realtion to a differnet matter. I have what is known as a Left Bundle Branch Block. This means the nerve on the left side of my heart, the one responisble for...
  17. 22months? We are ins the sma bot as you... well 5 months later or so. My son is about 26 months now and we found out around 20 or 21 months. I am a dad not a mom so I dunno the exact dates and ages LOL. Start simple, find a handlfull of things that your child WILL eat that are safe and build form there slowly. Keep good notes of thnigs you checked on...
  18. Page 68 of The Gluten Free Gourmet by Bette Hagman explains how to modify recipes to work with out a bread machine, but if your gonna be making bread a machine is much less work, and you can do a delay start so that you dump all teh indgredients in to the machine in the AM and have fresh hot bread when you get home from work. I can look it up when I get...

  21. We been trying to track down where gluten is comming from in my son;s diet. Well he goes to Sunday school at our church and this week I realy got on thier case about it, and the lady said to me "Oh? So grahm crackers are not okay?" WHAT PART OF "ONLY ALLOWED TO EAT FOOD FROM HIS BAG" CANT PPL UNDER STAND????
  22. And becarfull because some ppl assume gluten-free means wheat free and thats NOT TRUE. Heres an example list of things you need to aviod on gluten-free: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-03105361019.73
  23. oooo gonna have to try that! Its sure awsome haveing other ppl on gluten-free/eggfree to talk to! Dunno what I would do withouta y'all!
  24. First off, let me warn you this. The school systems tend to be bully's. They can not make you do anything with your child you do no want. The law is on your side with these cases. It will be esiaer to get you way if you can come armed with test results and notes from 3rd part non-chool related docs that back you up. BTW heres some good infomation...
  25. As an adult with ADHD and dyslexia (jsut fyi, last number I saw was 80% of ADD/ADHD cases alos included dyslexia heh), I just want to thank you for posting a postive comment on it for a change, to often its treated as an evil thing, and ppl with its are ostrized even on these boards here.
