  1. I read up on that a lot in the beginning & came up with more info. that said the iodine on the skin covered with a bandaid is bunk as to determining dh. There are things out there saying it will tell you but I found much more info. denying that than for that. Not everything on the internet is true. We have to keep perspective. Just IMHO. And if you mention...
  2. DH can present anywhere on the body. Just ask me. I've had it everywhere except mucus membranes. Bottom of my feet, hands, fingers, upper legs, lower legs, knees, elbows, neck, scalp, in my ears, in my belly button, on my nipples, collar bone, chest, breasts, stomach & pubic area, shoulders, any area of the back, any area of the arms, armpits, ankles...
  3. Okay. Why don't you start with this then. Go get the test for the celiac genes. And get the Iga test. Have you ever thought about Dapsone? Are you allergic to sulfa drugs? Sometimes docs will dx based on response to Dapsone however I urge you to research Dapsone thoroughly before you decide to take it.
  4. It's hard to say Sue. I can't give you a definitive answer. I wish I could. There just hasn't been a great deal of research on dh to delineate exactly where the lines are when talking about stuff like that. The other thing I forgot to say about the dh biopsy too is the stuff in the skin gets destroyed very, very quickly & easily with scratching. So even...
  5. 60% of celiacs with dh test false negative on the celiac blood panel so there goes that neg. result. Plus they often miss tests in the blood panel --- more often than not. So many people don't end up with a FULL blood panel but that is sort of a moot point here in this case. If you've been taking steroids in the past 2-3 months before any of the celiac tests...
  6. Good catch there Karen on the date. I didn't notice that. But if it's showing up when the OP gets glutened then it could be dh. We've had numerous celiacs who were gluten-free for ages get glutened & then suddenly present with dh. It has happened enough that I sometimes wonder if they hadn't stopped gluten when they did that they would have presented...
  7. I don't have corn intolerance (crossed fingers that I don't develop one) but I have never heard anyone on here with dh state that corn makes the dh flare. Topical steroid creams don't really seem to help the dh much at all if any & the problems can be a rebound effect the minute you go off it. It's hard to say if it's dh or eczema on your finger. It...
  8. I have to agree with you there Jamie! I tried that Daiya stuff & it's gross IMO.
  9. Have you had an endoscopy since your original one? That would be something to look at & see what's actually going on in there -- how your villi are doing.....
  10. I agree with the cc theory others have put forth OR....... the plates got mixed up & you in actuality got a gluten meal & someone else got your gluten-free meal. Maybe talk to the chef about putting something specific on your plate to designate it from the other plates. A sprig of parsley, something to differentiate your plate.
  11. The tips of the villi are where lactose is dealt with. It takes time for them to heal & grow back. When that happens, there's a good chance you will get dairy back again.
  12. (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))
  13. Sounds like you're well on your way. Great! Now, the problem is going to be eating out, be it at friends or restaurants. Huge, huge issues there. It's like playing Russian Roulette b/c of cross contamination issues. Read these threads: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/105321-just-glutened-myself-at-work-assumed-it-was-gluten-free-upset-for-not-asking...
  14. You need to make sure her meds are gluten free or she won't be gluten-free. She could be having problems with the dairy. IF she has celiac disease then the villi get destroyed & the tips of the villi are the 1st to go ~~~ the tips of the villi is where the digestion & beak down of dairy (lactose) is done. Many celiacs, once they've gone gluten-free...
  15. Chex makes gluten-free cereals. YAY! Also Larabars are delicious & gluten-free. Glutino's makes fabulous gluten-free pretzels --- fabulous! Snyder's of Hanover also make gluten-free pretzels -- we prefer the Glutino's but the Snyder's are good too just a bit hard, you have to suck on them a bit first before crunching them LOL! Check out Karen's suggestions...
  16. Another thought. If your wife does not go gluten-free or if she does in the home but sometimes will eat gluten when away from home then she will need to thoroughly brush her teeth before you guys kiss. Yeh. You can actually get glutened that way.
  17. Mac, I have to say you are one very lucky person to have the doc you have! Make sure that one doesn't get away. And before I forget; if you would post the doc's name & city, in this thread: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/6-celiac-disease-doctors/ It will help so many people out who look for a good GI in that area. So many times ppl are having...
  18. The OP, Macoo30, doesn't sound like he/she is balking at going gluten-free & it seems has already begun the process of learning what's involved. The OP just seems to be rather bewildered that celiac disease was confirmed by pathology.
  19. First, you need to decide if you are going to have a gluten-free household or a shared household. It gets tricky having a shared household & you & EVERYONE ELSE in the house have to be extra careful & that goes for visitors as well. Take a magic marker & go through each food cabinet & read labels carefully, when you find things that...
  20. You might check with your doc about going on a liquid gluten-free diet. There are some things out there along the lines of Ensure which are gluten-free & your body would have to do much less work to process that. Along consider juicing stuff & having smoothies etc... You need protein & fat to help digest the protein too. Hang in there! ((((HUGS...
  21. Bartful said it all & I agree.
  22. I'm not knocking what you said at all. It's just that so many docs take it as gospel that the rash is on knees & elbows & if you don't have it there then it's not dh. So many docs, both derms & GI docs, get it wrong or like the GI I went to, get it but don't get it. He was 95% sure I have dh but simply could NOT understand how I was presenting...
  23. Thanks so much! I can make the pie part regular since I can have dairy now but until you shared this I was just planning on having it crustless. This crust recipe sure seems easy peesy! Thanks! Yummy!
  24. I don't know how accurate that info. is that males get it more often. Maybe it's just that females are more apt to come onto a site like this but since I've been on here; I'd have to say the females outnumber the males 100 to 1. I know the "medical" texts say that about males. The medical texts also say it occurs on the elbows & knees & so forth but...
