Thank you! And now I feel bad that you can't have dairy. It sucks doesn't it? You'll get there too though. Just hang in there & you'll get there. It's funny how when you haven't had something in a long, long time, you tend to OD on it. I'm putting cheese on things I never put cheese on in my entire life. LOL! I can't seem to get enough of it. My bones... -

ARCHIVED A Concerned Husband With Questions...
squirmingitch replied to LenSan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Len, Gluten turned sweet lil ol' loving me into a dyed in the wool fire breathing dragon lady. I could easily have been an ax murderess. I didn't want anyone to even speak to me & for a long time I could not see what a harridan I had become. Sex? Forget about it! You see Len, celiac disease affects every. single. cell. in. your. body. And it doesn't... -

ARCHIVED Best Way To Deal With Servers?
squirmingitch replied to annajazz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am sooooo glad you "get it" Coconutkris! We are responsible for our own health & can't rely on anyone else to take care of it for us. We have to protect ourselves! As to social; take it as an opportunity to gently educate those who have no clue. You actually might save a life by alerting someone to the possibility they may have celiac disease but were... -

ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosed And Wondering If I Have To Live In A Bubble...
squirmingitch replied to Coconutkris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Organic restaurants do not mean they are "safe" restaurants for you. You can get as much cross contamination there as anywhere. Since you live in SF & there are many options for you then I would suggest you ONLY eat at totally gluten-free restaurants. Then you don't risk getting cc. -

After having been low iodine for what seems like a lifetime in order to keep the dh rash from eating me/us alive, I am overjoyed to say that both my husband & I are eating iodine without incident! We began the iodine experiment slowly & cautiously on September 10th of this year. We have a whole egg every morning, in fact, this morning my hubs had... -

ARCHIVED Best Way To Deal With Servers?
squirmingitch replied to annajazz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
annajazz, Your question was how do we deal with the server? The first thing wrong with your question is that you seem to think the server is the only person you have to worry about. That's the first mistake. You have to worry about every single person who works at that restaurant & enters the kitchen. You not only have to worry about the chef & other... -
ARCHIVED A 4 Year Old With Dh?
squirmingitch replied to hmitchell's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The problem is that when she goes back on gluten then it will be depositing more antibodies under her skin & that means the rash (which has already hung on for 18 months) will go on & on & on. If she gets the blood panel there's a very good chance she will come up false negative & then you play hell getting the doc to believe she has celiac... -
I think I've seen 2 postings on here (the dh forum) where ppl used the topical Dapsone (Actone? or something) & if I remember correctly, 1 said it helped & 1 said it didn't. You can give it a go & see.
-
Ohhhhhh, nooooooo, steriods, topical or oral are no nono !!!!!! Especially the oral!!!!!! They will help a lot but the second the steroids are withdrawn the rash will punish in SPADES!!!!! You don't want to put her through that hell. This stuff is a b%$@#!!!! It can take 2 years or more for the antibodies to get out of the skin. We are all individuals ...

ARCHIVED A 4 Year Old With Dh?
squirmingitch replied to hmitchell's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
What happens is that it separates the layers of the skin. Typical for the dh rash. hmitchell, it's going to be impossible to get an official dx unless you're willing ot put her back on gluten. you have to be eating a gluten diet for a dh biopsy or a endoscopic biopsy or the celiac blood panel. And 60% of us with dh test neg. on the celiac blood panel even... -

I'm having major computer problems (repeatedly crashing) & am trying to fix it so I'll have to be brief. IMO that's dh!!!!! If you had been gluten-free when the biopsy was done then OF COURSE it would come back inconclusive or negative. If the biopsy was taken directly ON a lesion then it was done wrong & OF COURSE it would not be positive for dh...

ARCHIVED Can Dh Present Itself As A Red Blotchy Rash At First?
squirmingitch replied to answerseeker's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm sorry, the photo is so small I can't really make out what's going on. I see a red area & that's all. It's really hard to say answerseeker. There are many rashes associated with celiac disease & some rashes do present symmetrical. Dh is crazy, insane itchy though & gets worse (if that's possible, but it IS) at night, wakes you up or keeps you... -
ARCHIVED Skin Biopsy For Dh
squirmingitch replied to answerseeker's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You're welcome on the dh thread anytime Colleen! Why shouldn't you be here????? It's ALL celiac. On the subject of restaurants.... SNORT! Back when hubs & I were unaware we had celiac; we would get SOOOOOOOOOO frustrated eating out! A bare minimum of 75% of the time they got something wrong with our order anyway. They couldn't do it right then!!!! There... -
ARCHIVED Skin Biopsy For Dh
squirmingitch replied to answerseeker's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
YVW jiggles! I do wash my mouth & my hands after touching my dog but you know, there's always going to be those times when something distracts you before you wash up & it only takes once! I will say to all of you too b/c this bears repeating over & over & over again: EATING OUT IS LIKE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE! Unless you eat at at completely... -
https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/96552-help-for-the-itching-stinging-burning-pain-of-dh/ Abby has been a very quick learner so you can bank on what she says! It could have been something you ate like the feta (iodine) or it could be nothing you ate. This darn rash will vex you to no end!!! I have no idea if artichokes are high iodine or not...
