  1. YVW answerseeker! I use Suave Naturals Shampoo & Conditioner & they work great for me. You can't hardly find anything cheaper & it's gluten-free. I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture for body/hand lotion - it's gluten-free but don't trust the other Vaseline lotions. I use Afterglow cosmetics (online) but there are a # of gluten...
  2. First let me tell you about NSAID's. They are known to make the rash flare. Some of us can use Tylenol but personally, i have to really monitor my use of even that. I used to couldn't take it at all w/o a flare & now almost 2 years gluten-free, I can take it in strict moderation. There is a product called Arnica gel (OTC) that 1 can use for muscle aches...
  3. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, okay. Now, let me tell you a little something about steroids & the rash. Steroids will handle the rash BUT & that's a very big BUT..... the minute you go off them, the rash will rebound with a flaming vengeance!!!!! So many of us have been there, done that when we were prescribed steroids for the rash b/c the docs did not know what...
  4. With dh, the antibodies are deposited under the skin & that's what causes the rash. If you get glutened now, you most likely won't get the GI issues or not to the same extent. When 1 has the rash, we tend not to have the big GI issues. The rash will present until ALL the antibodies are out of the skin. Time? It can be 2 or more years & the rash is...
  5. Lordy, lordy, lordy when will the derms learn?????? The biopsy has to be done on CLEAR skin ADJACENT to an ACTIVE lesion. ANNNNNDDDDD you have already been dx'd with celiac disease so why a dh biopsy? AND you have been gluten free since July (accidents aside & they would not be enough to consider you actively eating gluten) SO ANY DH BIOPSY WILL TURN...
  6. I think most of the dh sufferers that did try Dapsone & could not tolerate it (side effects) as well as those who did fine on it do not visit the site anymore. I will say that from my experience on the site; the majority who tried it had side effects too badly to stay on it. I have never tried it & don't believe I can b/c I'm allergic to sulfa drugs...
  7. Blaze, I am on limited time at the moment so will answer what I can in a quickie session for now. DH is intensely itchy, so itchy it consumes your entire mind, so itchy it is called the suicidal itch. It's a 30 on a scale of 1 to 10. Having said that; i will say that we don't know everything about dh. Perhaps, just perhaps you have dh & it's in the...
  8. But you guys have to take that post, written by foam, about the 20 years, in context. Foam said they have been getting smashed with the rash for 20 years. BUT: ALSO STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN STRICT gluten-free FOR 4 YEARS. So the previous 16 years do not count. Of course you're going to have the rash as long as you aren't strictly gluten-free. Having...
  9. Happy birthday!!!!!! It's so wonderful to hear a positive, uplifting story of one who came, learned & is conquering. You took the high road. Give yourself a pat on the back!
  10. A friend of mine gave this recipe to me. I copy & paste it. You'll need to sub the egg but other than that, I think it's a fit for you. 1 (16 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed (Somebody makes them seasoned, that's good too) 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped (or red or yellow, or even mixed) 1/2 onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, peeled and diced ...
  11. ABSOLUTELY! MY HUSBAND & I BOTH TAKE IT EXTREMELY SERIOUSLY. And we both happen to be some of those that Barty talked about who have dh. I'm not saying celiac disease without dh is any less serious than having dh added into the mix but dh sure will make you wake up & smell the roses!!!!! And I choose to help people who come here, especially to the...
  12. You're welcome.
  13. I wish I had time to go through this forum & give you a thread link for every celiac who only had gut issues UNTIL...... one day they either cheated on the diet or got glutened & then bingo! Rash! And they had never, ever had the rash before. Many ppl with the rash find that limiting their iodine intake for a week or two helps the rash to ramp down...
  14. Great suggestion Abby! AND it might help the hubs to see that gluten is his problem. Something tells me he doesn't want to deal with that but as we who have the rash can attest; the sooner you go gluten-free, the faster the rash will subside. The longer he waits, the longer he will pay. If he waits long enough; the rash will break out like he's never known...
  15. In the very beginning or early days mine would come & go.
  16. I agree Colleen! Very interesting!
  17. Exactly what Abby said. AND if he's been on ANY kind of oral steroids within about 2 or 3 months prior to either dh biopsy OR endoscopic biopsy then the result is a negative even if you have celiac/dh.
  18. Open Original Shared Link forget what they say about it's location on the body --- that's bunk --- we who have it can tell you it appears anywhere it darn well pleases & while it does appear where they say that's not the ONLY places it appears & not necessarily the first or most frequent places. You might want to print a copy & take it to the...
  19. Are you still eating gluten? If so then you could get a biopsy for dh (dermatitis herpetiformis - the celiac rash). Do you get little water filled blisters?
  20. If you have dh you are celiac ---- PERIOD. You are not gluten intolerant --- you are celiac. And it certainly sounds like it's dh. Biopsy schmiopsy. If you are gluten free then no dh biopsy will come up positive -- not the first time & not the second time. Sorry. Your derm should know that. Dh also keeps presenting for 2 years (or even longer) after you...
  21. ((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))) I know it isn't easy but you are strong --- you've already proven that. Keep the faith sister. We're here to hold your hand when you need it.
  22. Kaylu, how long have you been gluten free? More to the point --- how long did it take to get "the gluten out of your system"? I'm still on the journey myself & it helps me to know how long others have dealt with it. Thanks, Squirmy
  23. Wow! They have 6 whole months to decide????? The law sure does work differently in different countries! Meanwhile, does he sit in jail or does he get to be free? I understand your feeling sick but think of it this way --- those lawyers have seen & heard it all before --- probably a thousand times.
  24. ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) How did it go this week?
  25. It's hard to say. One of those could be, couldn't be things. There really isn't any research or med texts on that subject so we can only go on what we have experienced personally. There are so many rashes associated with celiac disease that it could be any of those. There is plenty of evidence that states you will get itches 12-24 hours before blisters ever...
