ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dh To You?

Maltodextrin, even when made with wheat is safe. The processing breaks it down. See: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link https://www.celiac.com/articles/181/1/Safe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Safe-Ingredients/Page1.html I suspect you were reacting to some other ingredient in the hand cream. -

You're welcome! Even though you know how to eat gluten free please read the Newbie 101 in the Coping section. It will also answer some of your other questions. You're perfectly safe eating pickled beets, sauerkraut, pickles and pickled things. Your new motto is READ EVERY LABEL EVERY TIME. Wheat is required to be listed in the ingredients of food as part... -

And stand over the doctors shoulder & make sure he/she orders the complete panel!!! SO many don't. And believe it or not, the majority of docs DO NOT know what the full panel is OR what the symptoms of celiac disease are. They think it's just GI symptoms & you have to be ultra skinny. You are a nurse & you didn't know - docs don't either. Good... -
ARCHIVED Tooth brushes and toothpastes
squirmingitch replied to iBelieve's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Toothbrushes are fine. They don't make toothbrushes with gluten. If they did this site would not exist as we would all be dead from getting continued gluten exposure from our toothbrushes. I use Colgate toothpaste and my husband uses Crest (& he has celiac too). I haven't found a toothpaste yet that contains gluten. I don't have dentures or a mouthguard... -
Make no mistake about it - untreated/ignored celiac can eventually kill and it won't be an easy death. it will be a decline with tons of pain & suffering along the way and odds are there will be more & more autoimmune diseases jumping on the bandwagon along the death trail. Sorry to be so harsh but that's the bottom line. Celiac tried to kill me....

ARCHIVED Pure Oats causing Neurological Problems?
squirmingitch replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was mistaken about that post -- part of it wasn't lost with the re-vamp. I'm having brain fog again BAD. Will explain why I think that's going on when I get a chance. Back to the subject at hand...... I had made another thread & I found it now so here's the link: -
ARCHIVED Pure Oats causing Neurological Problems?
squirmingitch replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You're welcome. I have more to add & I forgot to list some of the symptoms -- there are so many. I will have to get around to typing up a long post when I get a chance - I'm not a speed typist. In the meantime, you might be interested in reading this post I made when I was questioning what was getting me the second time after I had quit the oat flour... -
ARCHIVED Pure Oats causing Neurological Problems?
squirmingitch replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Christiana, After 3 years strict gluten-free last December I began using cert. gluten-free oat flour in a bread recipe. We had not been fond of the gluten-free breads our local stores sold so we had not eaten that very often for the 3 years. The bread I made was delicious & after pretty much not having any bread for 3 years we went nuts eating bread... -
ARCHIVED Not getting enough food, malnourished?
squirmingitch replied to Victor10's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You will have to be eating gluten to get tested. Here are the rules: Open Original Shared Link I don't care if the doc says you don't have to follow those rules because the doc will be wrong & you will get a negative result. Also, for when you go full on gluten free you will need to know these rules to prevent cross contamination. Read this thread... -
ARCHIVED Pizza pan for Against the Grain Pizza
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Barty. I will try that. Beats the heck out of having to clean everything up. I was researching last night & ran into all kinds of stumbling blocks. Lots of holey pans said you couldn't expose them to heat over 400 degrees & some said 450 degrees. Against The Grain requires 500 degrees. I found some similar statements with pizza stones AND also...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Pizza pan for Against the Grain Pizza
squirmingitch posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We adore Against The Grain gluten-free pizza!! We had not gotten a pizza pan but now that we have had Against The Grain gluten-free pizza a few times & know we love it; it's time to get a pizza pan so the entire bottom of the crust cooks correctly & is not doughy in the center. The box says use a pizza stone or a pizza pan with holes in it but I'm...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Navigating Diagnostic Process--GI Doc Troubles
squirmingitch replied to SarahMK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know what her problem is but she is so wrong on so many fronts. Patients with celiac DO completely heal. AND her statement of "that she would be able to tell even without me reintroducing gluten" is incorrect. This leads me to believe she didn't even do ANY biopsies. They can't see the damage with the naked eye -- there have to be biopsies examined... -
ARCHIVED Navigating Diagnostic Process--GI Doc Troubles
squirmingitch replied to SarahMK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sarah, I have not had this experience but I am SO sorry you did. Even though I haven't had this experience, I have read hundreds of stories like yours. It happens more often than not and that is a very, very sad thing. Appalling really. I wonder if the GI even took biopsies much less the 6 she should have taken to check for celiac disease. Her mindset is... -
I took Trazodone but only briefly. It upset my tummy & made me nauseous but that was very early on in my gluten-free life & I know my gut was in poor shape so I imagine that was why the Trazodone made me nauseous. At any rate, I did not have any bad reaction to it in any other way. At least you now know what's going on. You might have to resort to...

ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dh To You?
squirmingitch replied to Melon's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
60% of celiacs presenting with dh test negative on the celiac blood panel. A biopsy is taken ADJACENT to a fresh lesion NOT ON one. I'm sorry about the Trazodone & Ambien. Unfortunately celiacs tend to develop allergies & that can be to drugs or foods or environment. -

squirmingitch replied to Flowerpower135's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, let's just hope the GI is as savvy as your Ped is. Hooray for your ped catching this however, I would really rather have seen him do the complete celiac panel -- not that his positive tTG-IgA isn't enough but sometimes people test high on one & not the other so they can easily be missed when the doc only runs one of the tests in the celiac panel... -

Well that particular friend certainly has a good attitude. Made me laugh too. One needs friends that make us laugh. -
I agree with Bartful. Don't even bother to explain all the dx's & mis dx's to people -- just tell them you have been dx'd celiac by 2 separate doctors & that's the end of that. Now on to a new life for you & it will be much improved. It does take time to heal so be patient.

squirmingitch replied to Rebekah3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're very welcome! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. And please let us know how things turn out. OH! And do NOT stop eating gluten until all testing is done & that includes an endoscopy of the doc wants to do one.
