ARCHIVED Rolled Oats: Could They Be Causing Me Trouble.
squirmingitch replied to Kaukaukka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you ever heard the old saying, "Don't borrow trouble"? Don't borrow trouble. If you're eating them & you feel fine then go ahead & keep enjoying them. I don't think your high number was from the oats alone. You did say you were eating 90%. That 10% is what got you. That along with your 5 weeks of gluten gluttoning gave you your numbers. Unless... -
ARCHIVED Rolled Oats: Could They Be Causing Me Trouble.
squirmingitch replied to Kaukaukka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't say definitively because I haven't read it in any medical references but I'm going to venture it could be possible BUT that would depend on how much & how long one had been eating them AND only if you're one of those who has an actual T cell reaction to the cert. gluten-free oats. -
ARCHIVED Help interpreting tests?
squirmingitch replied to katief88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, as I understand it, the TTG IgG is is highly specific for celiac disease. This should be enough to go to your general doc with. You really need to have the complete celiac serum panel run. It is: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG... -

ARCHIVED Any coeliacs with no symptoms?
squirmingitch replied to Yazzoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A Hobnob: Open Original Shared Link Yazzoo, cyclinglady is correct. There are "silent celiacs" who have no symptoms at all. But there's a good chance you have symptoms & just don't realize it as cyclinglady said. Happens all the time. The good news is....... You won't have to live without Hobnobs!!! I did a quick Google & found gluten free recipes... -
ARCHIVED Ortega hard taco shells
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Am I wrong? I thought the new labeling guidelines do not require a company to test in order to label gluten free, however, if tested, it has to test below 20ppm. I understand that companies might not be testing & therefore, to cover their rear, they remove the gluten-free labeling. I do suspect this is what is happening in the case of B&G Foods/Ortega...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Ortega hard taco shells
squirmingitch posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It had to have been no more than 2 months ago when I last bought Ortega hard taco shells which were labeled gluten free. Now I can't find them. I have been to 2 of the 3 stores in my town and while there are Ortega hard taco shells at both stores; none of them say gluten free on the box. Publix has the shelf tags that contain the price as well as a gluten...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Girlfriend newly Dx'd
squirmingitch replied to Jay4G's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Bully for you Jay!!! It won't be easy combining strict gluten free with your diabetic diet but you sound like you're willing to go the distance. We do have some diabetics on here so I'm sure they can give you some pointers on handling the requirements of both diets at one time. I've been thinking about how you said she loves beer & even trips &... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal?
squirmingitch replied to sweethome's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just keep going forward girl, keep going forward. This will end. But don't be surprised if you get another withdrawal symptom which is stark raving starving hungry, hungry, hungry 24 hours a day. It was part of the withdrawal for me as well as many others. If that happens just go with the flow & eat your fool head off. That too will pass. LOL! -
ARCHIVED What do you make of my results?
squirmingitch replied to Rocky73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The supplements certainly won't hurt you at this point so go ahed & keep taking them. Down the line you'll want to make sure they're gluten free though. Yes, please update us when you get results. -
ARCHIVED Seemingly intolerant to everything
squirmingitch replied to celiwhat's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Whatever you eat make sure it's cooked. Veggies & fruits are much easier to digest when cooked. That should help you while you're healing. The bone broth LookingforAnswers mentioned is extremely nourishing and very, very gentle on the tummy. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal?
squirmingitch replied to sweethome's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had big time gluten withdrawal! Some people get off lucky & don't go through it but plenty of us get to experience it. Looks like you're one of us who doesn't get off lightly. The good news is that it usually doesn't last more than a month -- less for most people. Mine lasted about 2 months. Everyone is different. Hang in there. -
ARCHIVED What do you make of my results?
squirmingitch replied to Rocky73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm going to repeat what cyclinglady said because it bears repeating. CONTINUE EATING GLUTEN UNTIL YOU ARE SURE ALL TESTING IS COMPLETED. Otherwise you can get a false negative & you don't want that. BTW, you DO have symptoms..... "iron, vitamin d, magnesium and zinc deficient" Do you know what prolonged deficiency in these will do to you over time?... -
ARCHIVED Help understanding results
squirmingitch replied to maverickuk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No reason for your rmum to go through an endoscopy then. She could still get the blood work but if she's content to go strict gluten-free then good for her. Make sure she reads or you teach her everything in the Newbie 101 so she knows how to protect herself from cross contamination. And tell her she might go through gluten withdrawal but it will only last... -

ARCHIVED only symptom is iron deficiency anemia
squirmingitch replied to Capra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Absolutely! Be thankful you have a doc who is associating the possibility of celiac disease with the anemia. And btw, there is such a thing as silent celiac where the person has zero symptoms at all. Get tested. And whatever you do do not stop eating gluten until all testing is completed.
