ARCHIVED Question About Iga
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks you guys! This lab report says Endomesial IgA, reflex titer Endomysial Screen so I wondered if it meant I am IgA deficient even though I was not consuming gluten. Okay, so it actually means I was dietary compliant right?- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Question About Iga
squirmingitch posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm a little confused as to the exact implications of the Endomysial IgA screening. I know it's pretty specific for celiac disease. If one is deficient then the other tests are skewed because of it. But is the screen only effective PRIOR to going gluten free or is it effective even after having been gluten-free for say 1 yr. & 5 mos.? I got to looking...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED My Turn For Possible Dh
squirmingitch replied to Schatz's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well i can't think of anything else it could be. I don't think I've forgotten anything. If anyone else reads this & thinks of something they'll let us know. There's one way to find out. Quit the oats for a while & see what happens. Be sure to check ingredient labels for oats & oat fiber just like you do for wheat, barley & rye. If you... -
ARCHIVED Here Is My Story, What's Yours?

I wouldn't go back to gluten for love nor money! I did get a dx after the fact but that is extremely rare for that to happen & it was based on symptoms & resolution. My hubs has never gotten an official dx & he would NEVER eat gluten again to get that official dx. BUT we don't have children that may need to be tested and getting testing for them...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED My Turn For Possible Dh
squirmingitch replied to Schatz's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, it can take years for some for the rash to subside. Yes, the ENT is right -- it does look herpetic. That's WHY they call it dermatitis HERPETIFORMIS Mr. ENT!!! It presents in a herpetic manner. That does not mean it's herpes!!!!! Yes, the rash can present any old where on the body so if it presents on the nose then it presents on the nose. ... -

ARCHIVED Back Pain Associated With Celiac?
squirmingitch replied to Giwi777's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had severe back pain in all 3 sections of my back. I had back pain since I was early teens which in hindsight I now know I was celiac that far back (58 now). I no longer have any back pain at all. None. I had pain all over my body - screaming, burning, raw, massive pain. It's all gone now. -

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Similar Issues With Wheat In General?
squirmingitch replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those allergy skin tests are pretty much regarded as bunk by most. As I understand it, they return as many false positives as they do true positives. This results in the person eliminating a lot of foods that they really don't need to.That's why the elimination diet is truly the best way to go to discover what you react to. It's a pita but it works. I think... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Similar Issues With Wheat In General?
squirmingitch replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off there is NO test for gluten sensitivity. There are tests for celiac disease. Do you know what tests you had? Do you have a copy of the lab reports? Can you post them here? Most doctors don't order the full celiac panel because they really don't understand how to test for celiac disease. Were you eating a full gluten diet when you were tested or... -
On the Van's website it says gluten free oats and it says they are certified by the GFCO.

ARCHIVED Silent Celiac And Hard To Keep The Diet
squirmingitch replied to koachko's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ABSOLUTELY you should keep eating gluten until ALL testing is done including the endoscopy. The endoscopy would take biopsies - they should take 6 & no fewer than that. And a huge congratulations on being a 5 year survivor! -

Eloise's granny is now back in Ireland. She thanks us all for our prayers and thoughts. Our little Eloise is on an ECOM machine and they will try to begin the process of taking her off the machine on Friday. I imagine this is a gradual process sort of weaning her off the machine. I don't personally know much about that process though. Eloise is heavily sedated...
