  1. Good for you getting closure! Welcome to the club. You know what you have to do now. Be sure to read the Newbie thread in the Coping section.
  2. Ditto that! My hubs & I used to make bets on what part of our order they would screw up this time. it was always something.
  3. Barty, have you looked at chewy.com? It might behoove you to just order online.
  4. "There are also several conditions which may yield false negative antibody results. A false negative means that the patient actually has the disease, but the test result is negative. One of the conditions that may give a false negative result is Immunoglobulin A or IgA deficiency. If a patient has a low total IgA level, the antibodies may be falsely low....
  5. Yes, you can have normal blood tests -- CBC etc... & have celiac disease.
  6. It can be just itchy or it can be itching & stinging or it can be itching, stinging & burning or it can be itchy & burning. HOWEVER I am now over 3years gluten-free and the few rashes I have no longer itch (or sting or burn) like a mutha all the time. They never burn anymore at all. I am not skin biopsy dx'd but am dx'd with celiac based upon...
  7. Possibly. Celiacs tend to be prone to skin issues of all sorts. How many celiacs on here past & present were told "it's all in your head"? I can't count the number. Or if they're skinny were told to eat some cake or if they're fat were told to quit stuffing twinkies down their throat? How many who were fat were told they couldn't possibly have celiac...
  8. BTW, my primary care doc wanted to put me on antidepressants --- jumped up & down with joy at the notion of dispensing antidepressants. GI doc blamed everything including my severe bloat on menopause. Anxiety? Like you I never had anxiety in my whole life but I did for several years before diagnosis. Depression? I had never had the slightest depression...
  9. The Chicago Celiac Disease Center recommends 1/2 slice of bread per day for 12 weeks for the challenge. Sorry. Some find it easier to eat that before going to bed so hopefully by morning you won't feel quite as bad as if you ate it during your waking hours.
  10. I say find a new doctor, start eating gluten again & keep it up for at least 2 months, preferably 3 & then go to the new doc. There is too much pointing to you being celiac.
  11. My dh rash vesicular or not always itches - sometimes itches/burns/stings or any combination of the three or two.
  12. That's fine. It's your choice completely. I just wanted to make sure you really knew there can be little to no symptoms AND that if you want a second opinion then "a few weeks" of eating gluten will not be the end all test you hope to achieve. That you will need to eat gluten much longer than a few weeks. I didn't want you thinking you could re-test in that...
  13. I agree too! I have no idea why this posted twice.??????
  14. Hang in there blackbetty. Only 5 weeks & 2 days to go. Are you in the US? Do you know the Chicago Celiac Disease Center's recommendations for a gluten challenge? For the endoscopy they recommend 2 weeks of gluten eating not 6. Personally, if it were me, I would probably eat gluten for 4 weeks just to hedge my bets but I wonder if you want to go for 6...
  15. You DO understand that there is such a thing as silent celiac disease where the person has ZERO symptoms don't you? Furthermore, there are people who have milder &/or fewer symptoms AND then there are people who just began having symptoms which usually get worse the longer they go on eating gluten. But you can think it was all just a big mistake if you...
  16. If you insist on doing a challenge then you need to do it right. That would be 12 weeks of eating at least 1/2 slice of bread per day for TWELVE weeks. See: Open Original Shared Link
  17. And until you get one carry the antihistamines around with you at all times. I am not a doctor but personally, if it were me, I would have liquid benadryl rather than the pills. The liquid would be faster acting. In fact, liquid benadryl saved my life when I was 3 years old. I am anaphylactic to penicillin but the doc or pharmacy goofed & gave it to me...
  18. If you are dx'd with a wheat allergy then will you be able to write off the extra food costs as a medical expense?
  19. How sweet you are to try to help your friend. You say she was recently diagnosed. It can take time before one begins to gain weight back. The gut has to begin healing. I am the same height as your friend and I was down to 91 lbs. then I went up to 93 & then just seemed to level off there for about 2 years. I ate all the items mentioned above & more...
  20. I agree with Barty on the Ronzoni gluten-free pasta! It's GREAT! The "chew" on it is perfect. I can finally make homemade baked mac & cheese without having the pasta end up as mush. YAY!
  21. Oh BUMMER Barty that you have no Breyers there. But then again, we have no Canyon Bakehouse here.
  22. Also note if it's cooked things giving you trouble or only the raw versions. For instance I am fine with cooked onions but raw onions give me a tummy ache & flip flopping tummy as well as bloat/gas/belching. HOWEVER, raw scallions are fine but that's the only raw onions I am okay with.
  23. Well, you just learned a lesson you will not soon forget. Nothing like horrid stomach pain, migraine, & urping all the way home to give you a stiff backbone. I don't think you will have much problem saying no from now on. ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) I hope you are feeling much better now.
