ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
Adalaide replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've been out without a coat all week. It's been in the low or mid 30s. Sure, some people might think that's crazy, but I think the weather is perfect. -

YAY!!! That's such great news. I'll have a celebratory cup of cocoa for you tonight. (Shhhh... no one tell her I drink it pretty much every night anyway. ) Our deep freezer needs a good thaw, so we're eating everything in it. I fished out a bunch of stuff yesterday. Tonight we're just having burgers and whatever makes me happy to make with them. -
ARCHIVED Happy Holidays!

I missed Christmas here, but Merry Christmas anyway! And Happy New Year! -
I use Redmond Clay for a lot of things. You must live in Utah if you found it in a local store. It doesn't really cure anything, but it sure helps clear up topical things quickly doesn't it! I love it for cuts and burns and blisters, things of that nature. (Always make sure it can't dry overnight.) I used some just Christmas night on a nasty bump and was...

I only did that once! Okay. Sheesh... Irish is right, we've all asked that question. The simple fact is that we find out when we find out, and how we deal with it then is what matters. I could choose to live with anger and resentment because I went through living hell for decades with doctors who couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. But that...

I grew up living on a dirt road until I finished kindergarten. Since our house was the only one on it, it was only plowed to our driveway. It was on a "mountain" (I use that term very loosely when referring to the hills back in PA) and it was all steep hill from our driveway to the top. We had to hike 15 or 20 minutes to get to the top in the snow, but my... -

Sounds like Christmas in Florida was wonderful! I was so good yesterday. Then we made donuts tonight. I managed to put a single small polish sausage in me before I ate donuts until I was mildly ill. I didn't even pretend at the healthy thing with a veggie. Nope. Meat. Donuts. I didn't realize until I was trying to get my tip in the bag that I need... -

Mmmmmm risotto. I'm getting sent booze shopping! I was afraid I would have a mishap with my new knives. I was cutting potatoes and it was like cutting warm butter with a hot knife and the whole time I kept thinking about how I was going to get stitches for slicing a finger to the bone instead of getting dinner. Instead I was fine until I reached for something... -

So I had to come here because you guys will understand. I got two super amazing gifts today. My MIL got me a jar of saffron, because I've been eying it but just couldn't bring myself to splurge on it. My husband told her and there it was under the tree. And my husband got me the set of knives I've been moaning about every time we go to Costco. Literally every... -

ARCHIVED My Pie Crust Is Laughing At Me
Adalaide replied to greenbeanie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Merry Christmas everyone! -
Lovely. I put up with a husband like that for many years. Eventually I realized I was more than his emotional punching bag. No one should be that, not for a spouse, a parent, a sibling, no one. I now twice as firmly believe I gave good advice the first time. I can't imagine why you are on speaking terms with him and frankly don't recommend at the very least...

Why wait for the weekend? You could have pancakes for Christmas!

ARCHIVED My Pie Crust Is Laughing At Me
Adalaide replied to greenbeanie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not sure why it is doing that and have never had that problem, so sadly I can't offer a solution to fixing the crust. The only thing that sort of pops in my head is maybe it's the type of flour you're using? Some just won't do well for a pie crust. I do have a solution though. Grab any old recipe book, I use my old Betty Crocker tome most of the time... -
I'd be pissed off too. It's Christmas and that isn't the attitude I'd want to be greeted with. I'd say so, pack my "s$#&" back in the car and leave in the morning. No one needs to be treated that way. There is no reason you can't be somewhere else for Christmas.

ARCHIVED One Advantage Of Celiac, No Need To Shave Legs
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would love to not have to shave my legs anymore! Of course, not living where it's warm and it being winter I don't have to right now anyway and the only person who will know is my husband. We all know the consequence of him complaining so I hear nothing about it. -
ARCHIVED Can Something Not Be Gluten Free Even If The Label Looks Okay?
Adalaide replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I try to be aware of the policy companies have. Frito Lay for instance has policies clearly disclosed on its website and I make my choices based on that information. Because I have an extreme amount of time on my hands I do actually call most companies that aren't on my "trusted" list, which isn't something I necessarily advocate that others do. That said... -
ARCHIVED Hazelnut Flour Vs Almond Flour
Adalaide replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You know people will remember that and beg for the recipe in March. I never heard of that, I'd be a little freaked and and definitely hitting the internet before I was brave enough to eat something that turned a weird color on accident. -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
Adalaide replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Fine, she can have it. But it makes me cold just thinking about it! Also, on the years we don't have a white Christmas here it is always above freezing which in late December feels warm. Warm enough for long sleeves and no coat, and a few years it was t-shirt weather. There's no complaining about the cold here for Christmas when there isn't snow on the... -

Someone please rescue this woman. If -21 is her idea of warming up I'm not sure she's going to survive until spring, clearly she's suffering from some sort of winter malady that impairs her thinking! -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
Adalaide replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
No, Christmas is not about snow but for me I simply can't imagine living in a place where white Christmases don't happen. I'll survive our winter without running away to FL just like I do every year. I've said it before, but frankly what we get is so mild compared to what I grew up with that it's practically paradise here in the winters to me. -
ARCHIVED One Year In With Celiac 8-Yo Daughter. Feeling So Sad.
Adalaide replied to ViennaGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's been two years and while I have a great handle on things, on occasion I find myself caught off guard by just feeling a bit resentful of how I can't just be the person I used to be. I can't just look at my husband at noon and say hey, lets go to the city and off we go. If we're going to go to the city for an entire afternoon and evening it requires planning... -

When the snow is super bad my husband doesn't drive in it because his car is not exactly the world's best for a long winter commute in bad weather. So, I'll be picking him up tonight which puts a real damper on the whole cooking thing. I'm probably going to totally cheat at dinner and pick up a box of mac and cheese at the store and throw burgers on the indoor... -

MORE SNOW!!! Any weird noises you have heard today are me squealing like a little girl at how exciting it is to know we are for sure having a white Christmas! No worries though, I'll be complaining by mid-January for it to end. I only like snow for Christmas and my birthday. When it snows Ain't it thrilling Though your nose gets a chilling We'll frolic... -
ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Cracker?

Well, since that obviously isn't enough to send a Christmas package back over the border I guess I'll have to spend it all on crackers. You'll make me fat!
