  1. That would be interesting to try. My husband wants me to make blueberry ones. I think blueberry cinnamon. Like I said, I'm gonna get so fat. I may just eat a bagel a day for the rest of my life.
  2. Everyone should make these bagels. I only needed prompting from one person saying they were awesome and I made some tonight. Well, they are in fact awesome. I've been eating Udi's bagels when I absolutely must have one because, well, they exist. I can't imagine any circumstance under which someone could induce me to touch an Udi's bagel again. Ugh... At...
  3. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/104639-homemade-bagel-recipe/ Someone started this nonsense earlier today. All I needed was one person saying it was an awesome recipe and I was off and running. BTW I'm just licking the last of the cream cheese off my fingers from my first one and all I can say is holy craponacracker! I didn't manage to make them pretty...
  4. No kidding! That's pretty extreme for a hypoglycemic response. Did he recommend testing her during one of these phases to check for it? Hypoglycemia in a child that young would require medical monitoring and treatment for episodes, as well as lifestyle changes to prevent episodes. If your doctor is shrugging it off he's a moron and should be fired.
  5. I think I'm going to have leftovers. I'll be too busy making bagels to do things like cook! My husband can eat whatever he finds for dinner. There is a perfectly good casserole he could be eating if he weren't so picky. I'm working the next 3 days, whole days. I'm putting the remainder of my casserole into single serve containers and freezing it. I'll...
  6. Yes. Yes it does. But it isn't my yard. They're buried in the back plot by the fruit trees and if they took all that over... who cares? But they could probably get runners in the actual yard from there. *snicker* It is still in the pots. Just planted the pots. Hopefully I did everything right so they live through our winter.
  7. I think that ran through a lot of our heads, which is why we all said to make an appt. right away. None of us wanted to be speculative and alarmist for no reason though. It still could absolutely be symptoms of a glutening, which a doctor can do nothing for. But at that age there is no reason to take chances with a child's health when they show such an alarming...
  8. I'm still waiting for the inevitable reaction to the "planted" mint pots. I'm sure it will be heated, which will at least keep me warm! And come on, you know me well enough to know I'm too smart to hide a body "mint" in my own back yard!
  9. I make jokes with my husband sometimes about how I'm going to starve to death because I can't eat anything. This is always a joke because although I have vast intolerances there is far more I can eat. On the other hand, it isn't a joke when I saw your post and thought to myself that you really are in danger of starving. If not literally to death, at...
  10. I used wipes on my baby cousin when I was babysitting him. He hadn't learned to wash his hands yet. While he was gluten free when he was here, I knew that he had invariably been eating things like cereal bars or pancakes for breakfast and needed to be de-glutenized. I was very careful to get his entire hand, between his fingers along the edges of his nails...
  11. It's 50 and breezy and was the perfect afternoon to clear the corn from the garden and "plant" my potted mint for the winter. Especially since my husband has the day off and got to do all the digging. Any day where the man gets to be in charge of the shovel is a perfect day for gardening!
  12. Most cookbooks that focus specifically on being gluten free do so with the realization that when someone picks them up they are looking for the gluten free replacement for something. It sounds like you are looking to cook foods that are either naturally gluten free or simply don't need a gluten free cookbook. Any healthy cookbook can help you out here. ...
  13. My mom did that to me!!! By the time I was old enough to undress myself I was expected to be able to put my clothes in a small basket and drag it down the hall to the washer on laundry day. I also had to go outside with her and hand her pieces of laundry, one at a time to hang on the line. She was positively evil! Oh... and by the time I was 2 I was helping...
  14. Citric acid will be fine in the US. Any ingredient sourced from wheat will actually have the word wheat on the label. A very simple rule you need to live by. Every label, every time. If you haven't read the label of every product that went into what your mom made, you don't eat it. Oh, she stirred her chili with a wooden spoon. You don't eat it. Oh, it...
  15. What IH and Karen have been pointing out is that there is irrefutable, scientific evidence that cross-reactivity simple does not exist. If every expert in the field who has published peer reviewed studies says so, and the experts speaking at an international symposium on celiac says so it removes all doubt. There is no reason left to keep an open mind. ...
  16. My guess is we could both end up drunk in an hour. We'd probably both cry, and laugh til we cry. Just keep telling yourself "it's child abuse for him to make his own PB&J!!!" every time he does it and try not to crack up like a crazy woman.
  17. I don't use the internet on my phone a whole lot. Hilariously enough, when I do it is usually when I'm at a pharmacy after a visit to a doctor and need to call a pharmaceutical company I don't have the phone number to. (Bahaha... don't have the number to, that's hilarious too!) So if they're tracking my internet usage on my phone, I google a lot of contact...
  18. My casserole was delicious. My husband wouldn't touch it. I suppose I committed some sort of super serious culinary sin though. I thought I had a jar of Classico in the house, turns out I didn't so I used my $8 jar of Dave's Gourmet.... in a casserole. Also, Delallo pasta is pretty good. It was my first time having it (because it was free, which is the best...
  19. I would certainly be concerned about slurred speech and would make an appointment with her pediatrician about that immediately. As for saying things that don't make sense at all, repeating those things over and over and talking to herself? Sounds like normal 3 year old behavior to me. By itself it isn't a reason for concern. My kids frequently didn't...
  20. That is awesome news! We should all celebrate a little for you tonight.
  21. I make all of my pudding from scratch. Like with cornstarch and flavoring and etc... etc.... I could probably do that with jello if I weren't so lazy by buying unflavored gelatin and just adding whatever flavor I want and not adding color, or using natural colors. And you can only get the mold by buying it with the 2 packs of jello it comes with.
  22. It'll be fine... it's giraffe shaped. Stop looking at me like that.
  23. Last I checked having a kid make their own sandwich isn't some sick, twisted form of child abuse. By the time my daughter was 5 she had pushed and pushed me so far with wanting to be self-sufficient that I was letting her use the microwave a little with some supervision. And... not super sharp paring knives to cut things like strawberries and other not super...
  24. Someone is having a good night! I still feel weird saying this as justification for doing things. I act like I'm 5 as much as I act my age so I'm not sure I should be allowed to say it. I also play more video games than most teenagers. So, I stopped at Wal-Mart for the cheese I need for dinner, which is dangerous because I should never be allowed...
  25. Tonight is pizza spaghetti casserole. My husband usually hates casseroles, and if he doesn't like it he can oven himself some stupid chicken patties or something. I found the recipe and it looks delicious so he can just deal with it. It's basically just spaghetti in a casserole dish with pepperoni on it, what isn't to love?
