  1. I find that if I eat an entire large bag of popcorn I have trouble. Instead I buy those mini bags and get the Orville Rededbacher's. I either get the Naturals or Gourmet Naturals, at the time I called them (which was admittedly some time ago) they told me these were gluten free. They have exciting (to me) flavors like garlic butter and sea salt or my absolute...
  2. If you have pearls, I personally don't know of any use for them other than pudding. I do greatly enjoy tapioca pudding though and highly recommend it. If you have flour, Brazilian cheesebread is by far my absolute favorite thing to make. The muffin pans must be mini muffin pans for this, there is no substitute. This is served in some local restaurants...

    ARCHIVED Ocd

I'm actually a sort of messy person. I like to call it organized chaos. For me the two most difficult things have always been the thoughts and food. Even at a young age I would sooner go hungry than skip particular rituals relating to my meal and snacks. To this day I will not eat Reese's Pieces without a flat surface to sort them by color and number. I...
  4. I guess I use slightly heaping tablespoons of baking soda per cup of water. I just find that it works better. The whole single, level tablespoon thing wasn't doing it for me. I tried 2 and it was leaving actual flakes of baking soda in my hair which was kind of gross. So I found a happy middle ground that works for me. I think it tends to vary for everyone...

    ARCHIVED Ocd

I know that television likes to make everyone think that OCD is hilarious. Everyone with it is some sort of neat freak who needs to lock and unlock their deadbolt 5429847528945 times (or some ridiculous number) before they go to bed. Since a lot of mental health issues are linked to celiac I thought I would share an article that is actually pretty spot on...
  6. I don't mean to be a downer or anything, but the entire point of doing the baking soda thing for washing hair is to not use chemicals. The lack of a foaming agent makes no difference when the entire point of making this change is to simply strip chemicals from an entire aspect of your life. As a matter of fact, I don't even use soap at all any more. I...
  7. I always rinse really really really well. My hair is currently about down to my bra strap and I have no lingering odor after it is dry. Even when it is still wet the odor is only very very mild.I use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar for every 8 ounces of water and use 8-10 ounces for every rinse. Sometimes if I'm feeling adventurous I'll make an herb steep...
  8. With all of the fiber supplements available there isn't anything at all that could entice me to try this stuff. While I understand it tests under 20 ppm, I don't see the point in actually testing the limits of my body by intentionally putting a wheat derived substance in it on a daily basis just to see if I have a reaction when if I want a supplement I could...
  9. Lots of local businesses have been having facebook contests the past few weeks to give away tickets. I've been trying to win some and failing miserably until today.
  10. I don't think I made a very clear sentence. I should have said that today I won free tickets to the gluten-free Expo.... which happens not to be until Saturday. Anywho, I will have tons of fun when I go.
  11. Have fun going out. Sounds like a good time. I managed today to get my chicken marinating at a reasonable time. So we'll have honey balsamic chicken, probably a salad and I'm sure I'll think of something else. I went shopping today and scored honeycrisp apples for 98 cents a pound. They are by far the most perfect apple ever, so I'll probably blow...
  12. There are a lot of reasons to try a gluten free diet, many of them have nothing to do with celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity. It can be helpful with treating a variety of other health issues. The pizza crusts I prefer to buy were developed by a bakery in response to doctor pointing out that autistic children responded well to a gluten free diet. He felt...
  13. I think you mean Spanx. Whoever invented Spanx should be nominated for sainthood!
  14. Anyone who is an expert in that has been married a few too many times for my comfort! And I've never had success with control top pantyhose. Just sayin'. I also love corsets and am never more comfortable than when I'm in one so maybe I have a bias about the comfort of girdles. But seriously, a well fitting one shouldn't be uncomfortable... and if it is...
  15. At the age a child goes to school they should be able to have personal boundaries. Having something like a place mat they can take along will help them to establish those boundaries for themselves at lunchtime at school. I would be honestly worried that your child will end up being picked on or even outright bullied for being the weirdo who sits alone at...
  16. I may have been a little hasty in my estimation of how long it would take my chicken to thaw. So, chicken tomorrow. I'm going to totally cop out tonight and go with burgers, mac & cheese and some sort of veggie. I also have a free Redbox code so maybe dinner and a movie if there I can talk myself out into the chilly drizzle.
  17. Worst case scenario you can always pick up a pair of those up to your bra tummy slimmer undies. Or a girdle type thing. Yes, they still make those. I'm sure you have lots to do tomorrow, but if it gets you in your dress I'm sure you'll find time to shop. I'm not ashamed to say that at 2 months after giving birth my first wedding was in a girdle, they are...
  18. If you are newly gluten free you could simply still be adjusting and be in that stage where you are bloating for seemingly no reason no matter what you eat. You may also have additional intolerances such as dairy, nuts or soy. My first thought though if you are newly diagnosed is that you are possibly having a problem with dairy, as some people have a (sometimes...
  19. Most recipes call for a combination of flours and starches because of their specific properties. You can try subbing straight rice flour but it isn't really a good flour for baking with in any quantity if you want a quality product.
  20. I love doing chicken soup that way. I don't like putting noodles in my soup because they get soggy. So I cook noodles and put them in my bowl and then put the soup on the noodles. I do the same with my rice though, I don't just put my rice in my soup. Then if I have leftover rice I can make it into pudding. I have some sort of Brianna's vinaigrette or...
  21. One of the things you could do is start now with experimenting with gluten free stuffings. Find one you like and offer to make it on Thanksgiving. This is the biggest risk factor of the day and could turn the entire meal gluten free. (Not counting the pies I'm assuming there will be for dessert.) You can also make pumpkin cheesecake or a crustless pumpkin...
  22. I guess my husband is in the mood for hot chocolate instead of pumpkin shakes. Fine by me, it's feeling lot a chocolate kind of night. I found a super awesome recipe for my pork roast and it was positively divine. The man who rarely (if ever) eats my sauces on anything because he's weird loved the sauce for this. YAY! http://thedomesticman.com/2012/0...
  23. Sorry, meatatarian here. Not only that but I actually can't eat a significant number of vegetarian protein sources because they'll make me blind. The few I can eat I can only have in moderation. I know I've been kinda MIA lately. I just kind of had a bad month last month and decided to hide out for the rest of it. Things are looking up this month though...
  24. The local group in my area is part of GIG. Open Original Shared Link While a lot of groups are probably a part of larger organizations, it doesn't mean a group has to be. If you get information from national organizations and find out more about what it would mean to have a support group tied to one of them you can decide if you would want to be involved...
  25. I scrub my scalp with my fingertips, never my nails. I make sure to get my entire head and spend about 2-3 minutes doing it, much like they would do at a salon. Then I spend about a minute massaging while I rinse. I do just let the vinegar soak. Probably for about 5 minutes while I finish showering.
