  1. I was wondering how you did with the storm. Maybe you will get it out of the way early. Hopefully they'll manage to keep you powered but I know how that goes in the middle of nowhere after a storm. With any luck they'll have things cleared up before the weekend is over and you'll have all week at work to worry about the next one.
  2. I've made these for a get-together before. They are really amazing. I make them as mini-muffins, you can just use a really fine shredder for the apples if you do that rather than dicing them as small as you'd have to. My gluten eating husband loves the things so much I barely get any when I make them. Open Original Shared Link
  3. There are a few manufacturers that I am unable to contact due to not having a number I am able to call in the US. I don't have time to waste emailing someone halfway around the world when there are manufacturers in the US that I can actually talk to the same day. I've had 2 that the manufacturer told me may contain gluten (one of these was a gel capsule that...
  4. I always call the manufacturer myself. Teva is very good about answering their phone and having readily available information. I joke sometimes that I have more pharmaceutical companies in my phone as contacts than anything else. You'll need identifying information from the pills, which the pharmacist can give you. There is a number on the box the pharmacist...
  5. I'm with you. You can always bundle up against the cold. There is a limited amount of clothing you can remove in the heat before you have some lovely men in blue uniforms come and fit you for new silver bracelets.
  6. Took me a week to get things figured out and learn how to wash my hair properly. Took maybe another week after that for it to become soft and perfect, but it wasn't weird during that time. I felt like the adjustment period had more to do with me learning the difference in how to use this instead of shampoo and less to do with what I was using to wash my hair...
  7. NEVAH! I've had a few cups of cocoa already this fall. My husband found Baily's red velvet coffee creamer at the store and I've been putting that in my cocoa which is amazing. My husband thinks I'm kinda wacky because I love my cocoa made from cocoa powder, not the kind from a box. It doesn't have enough sugar for him. I'll think of you with every cup...
  8. We've got mountain snow! Won't be terribly long before the resorts open I imagine. Not that I'd ever go, not in a million years. But I'm happy to sit home and drink cocoa while you go.
  9. I've been doing this for months, maybe even close to a year now. I get shampoo in my mouth, don't ask how because I don't know. I just do. After a canned response basically saying "you don't eat shampoo moron" when I specifically pointed out in my email that I just happen to sometimes accidentally get it in my mouth on occasion so simply wanted to know if...
  10. That's cheating! We got snow on the mountains earlier this week. I was pretty excited about it because nothing is more beautiful than snow on the mountains. It has also been wet this week so they mountains have been wreathed in low clouds which just makes them look like something out of a story book. Tomorrow real life will slap us in the face in...
  11. I get a little nauseous from the smell of fresh bread. Nothing else, just fresh bread. I was quite a baker before diagnosis and my favorite thing to make was always breads, including artisans breads. Its entirely a mental reaction. I don't get that from pizza, baked sweet things, anything else at all. Just bread. Oh well. My surprise was chicken nuggets...
  12. Just like it wouldn't be heaven without giraffes! It may get crowded.
  13. There is some sort of stupid rule in my dietary crap about parmesan cheese. I have a whole bunch of reasons I'm not supposed to have alfredo sauce, I just can't have my husband's favorite kind because of the soy. When I can't take it any more I indulge in a little Classico alfredo if I'm too lazy to make my own. I never worry about fat content in anything...
  14. I love breakfast for dinner. I usually make pancakes for us, with scrambled eggs and meat. I keep my hashbrowns for the mornings when I'm alone because my husband won't eat them. (weirdo) Tonight I made alredo for my husband. He fell in love with the Prego bacon alfredo sauce which I can't eat because of soy but by all reports from him it is awesome.
  15. Not sure what to call it exactly, but I had a partial root canal for lunch. Fun times. Hubs is working until 8 so I'm going to have an early dinner of leftover pizza. (Which is also what I had for breakfast.) I'll make him whatever he wants. Dessert will be taffy. Maple. Bacon. Taffy. And whatever else I pull out of the bag, most mostly the maple bacon. My...
  16. Sounds awesome! We have a Fuddruckers here and I'd love to have another burger joint I could go to. I'm not sure why really but I just have a thing for burgers.

    ARCHIVED The Pie

There are reasons I'll never leave this area. I know there are other gluten free havens. I just have no intentions of ever starting over learning. Hopefully if anyone ever visits here this will help point them to some safe and amazingly delicious pizza. There is a huge gluten-free expo in October so maybe this is just in time to help someone.
  18. When I visited home (2000 miles away) several years ago, there were many places I fondly remembered always going to. I wanted to go to many of them while I was there. It didn't occur to me to ask if my family wanted to patronized these places or not. They were free to come, or not. Yes, I was there to visit them. I was also there to do things that I wanted...
  19. Utah got a really cold winter last year. Snow I can handle, I'm used to it from growing up in PA. We actually get surprising little snow in the valleys in Utah. The cold though? I thought I left that nonsense behind me when I headed west. I keep food, water and a blanket in my Jeep. I have no intentions of getting stranded without those. Strangely enough...
  20. In the picture it is clear, I don't think coloring is a concern.

    ARCHIVED The Pie

So we finally went to The Pie today. The Pie is a local pizza chain in the Salt Lake City area. Three of their restaurants have separate gluten free kitchens with specific practices in place to nearly eliminate the possibility of cross contamination. We went to the South Jordan location. I did something I've never done before. After reading everything...
  22. Three words. Maple. Bacon. Taffy. Taffy Town brags at having the world's best taffy. All of it is gluten free, including the chocolate malt which they use an artificial malt flavoring for. (I talked to the guy who sources all of their ingredients while we were there.) The owner did our tour, super sweet guy. The taffy isn't sticky like regular taffy...
  23. Hey, maybe I'm a masochist or something. Don't judge me! We planned this taffy factory tour more than months ago. We didn't go sooner because my health has been wonky so we decided to go for his birthday. I'm done with stupid health crap. I'm done with my health problems getting in the way of life. Screw it. I don't care if I have to spend the day walking...
  24. I would find out how long it will take you go get in before you make any decisions. Do some homework. Research GIs who accept your insurance in your area who are well versed in celiac. Contact them about waiting times and such. Go in to your next appointment armed with this information and tell your doctor you know who you want to be referred to. This can...
  25. I'm now all red and inflamed and look bruised on my gums around the tooth that started sore. The tooth below it that got sore starting Monday has a pus pocket on my gums. I thought things were supposed to get better when I started antibiotics. At least I was exhausted enough to sleep. YAY! I slept for about 4 or 5 hours (waking a few times but not enough...
