ARCHIVED For Those Who Use Cast Iron Cookware
Adalaide replied to seraphim's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wash with hot water and if necessary a healthy dose of elbow grease. Since it'll immediately be dried, rewarmed and reoiled there is no need to worry about bacteria as long as you got all the food off of it. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Use Cast Iron Cookware
Adalaide replied to seraphim's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is how I do my cast iron. If I get a pre-seasoned one I simply strip it and start over. I don't want it how they do it, I want it how I do it. As long as you strip the pan in the self-cleaning cycle of the oven you can also purchase heirloom cast iron which is far superior to the new stuff. All pans you find will be coated with something, because if... -
Anyone Eaten Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Recently?
Adalaide replied to Veghead1234's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Domino's does not do gluten free right, some do. That said, they also don't have flour in their stores. The CC is because they use entirely shared surfaces and toppings from the same bins for everything. The crust arrives gluten free, and from there stops because of handling. I've read the "celiacs shouldn't eat this" disclaimer on their website and would... -
I think (not totally sure) that all my dad's crawlers are Olivers. *shrug* Whatever floats his boat. He does that hunting things down in weird places thing too. Yeah, I don't do grass tall enough to hide snakes. Thankfully from 2000 miles away he can't try to drag me out into snake country any more. And hey, at least with things like crawlers (too big...

My dad collects old crawlers. He just went to a show in Missouri or somewhere last month and came home with a new one. I swear its like he's 5 and just buying grown up hotwheel cars that are way more fun. He got a sawmill I swear because he thought it would be fun to own. It just so happens that it also is a great business opportunity and that the crawlers...

If you want donuts that are better than gluten donuts, as my gluten eating husband will tell anyone, try these. I make donut holes because it seems pointless and stupid to waste time and energy making them into round donuts. It makes like a bazillion, and you can freeze the ready to fry dough for later. Also, you won't have to find pancake mix since you're...

I promise it gets easier. I had a surprise diagnosis too and didn't take it particularly well, but threw myself into everything gluten free because what choice did I have? Before I realized it, everything was second nature to me. All I can really think of is to read the newbie thread at the top of the coping section. That will help you get a good grasp...

My dad used to take me with him to tractor shows and such. I have to say that there is nothing in the world like the sound of a hit n miss engine running. I could just sleep to that sound. I love seeing the old machines that got us where we are today.

I'd go get tickets but I'd have to drive to Idaho for that. Maybe I need plan a short 3 day trip to Vegas and strike it rich while I'm there.

We could start the first North American elephant/giraffe nature preserve. It'll be AWESOME!

ARCHIVED 504 For Freshman In High School
Adalaide replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mind that my kids don't have celiac. But anyway, they told me that the only difference between high school and middle school was the classes they took and the amount of homework they got. Nothing was really different from middle school. But, you'll have to go over everything of course with new people. If the old plan worked, I don't see why it wouldn't continue... -
ARCHIVED Are All Smarties Created Equal?
Adalaide replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the US those are not Smarties. I've never actually seen those here. It never occurred to me that another company would actually make a completely different candy and give it the same name. Smarties in the US are what I linked. Little sugar candies that are circular and concave on both sides, stacked together and wrapped in plastic with the ends twisted... -
I'm sorry that blueberries don't love you back. It always sucks when foods we love lots seem to have it out for us. I know this has nothing to do with anything really, but I discovered this afternoon that there is a band named Steam Powered Giraffe. I've had a rough few weeks recovering from stupidity and this was just sort of a bright spot that reminds...

ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
Adalaide replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No matter what anyone says to help you automatically come back with some assumption that everyone is trying to insult you. If that isn't the definition of high-strung anxiety nothing is. I frankly don't care at this point. I'm done trying to help too. I'm all out of s$#&s to give about someone who only thinks everyone on this forum is attacking them in one... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
So I know this will sound a little off and my husband always has a joke to crack, but when I labeled my Chinese chicken recipe for my recipe book I labeled it Chinese chicken balls. Anyway, that is what is for supper, with orange sauce. Hopefully I am still able to tolerate the sauce, it has been a long time since we made this. It only has a few tablespoons... -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
Adalaide replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While anxiety is literally in your head because it involves being an issue with your brain, that doesn't make it an "in your head" as in an imaginary issue or one that is to be taken lightly. When that was suggested, no one was saying that the problem wasn't serious or that you shouldn't seek medical attention. They were simply relating what their experiences... -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
Adalaide replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dropping dairy means reading every label for hidden dairy. Not just looking for milk but for all of its possible derivatives, in every food you eat that has ingredients. If part of what they're doing next month includes a scope you need to be eating gluten for a biopsy to show celiac if you do actually have it. It sounds like the doctor is looking for... -

I live in Utah and even I can get New Planet! You must live under a rock or something. -
Intermittent leave is what you apply for and is what the ADA states an employer must provide if there is no undue hardship. (or some such wording) In one way, it is similar to FMLA because it is leave granted and legally protected. On the other hand, it is different because not all of the same regulations and rules apply. There are no hard and fast rules...

It is my understanding that you simply file for intermittent leave when you aren't eligible for FMLA. You do this through your employer and everything is up to them. If you feel you have been discriminated against, you file through the EEOC. Filing for intermittent leave through your employer is really no different (in principle) than filing for FMLA other...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Totally easy cheating supper tonight. More pulled pork sandwiches and corn. We picked up some red corn at the store yesterday because we had never seen any before. It was really good! Really different than anything else either of us have ever had before but we're thinking maybe we'll plant some next year. -
I love love love veggies. That didn't stop me from needing iron. The pills made me incredibly sick so I just got done with my IV iron last month. The bright side is, meat is the best source of iron and you eat that! There is nothing wrong with taking vitamins to fill gaps in your diet. I make my husband do it because he hates veggies about as much as you...
