I simply don't like the taste of city water. It tastes like a swimming pool. My husband has argued this with me incessantly but he grew up a city boy with city water, I grew up a farm girl with spring water. I smell it and taste it, it is what it is. I absolutely refuse to drink plain water from the tap. Filtering it home leaves it tasting less bad, but still...

Not all anaphylactic reactions happen within seconds or just a few minutes, it is not unheard of for someone with this type of reaction to have time to get to a hospital. If it were always a matter of if you have time to get to a hospital it isn't life threatening, how do you figure any child is ever diagnosed with a life threatening allergy after having...

ARCHIVED Seriously, That Doesn't Make Sense
Adalaide replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Feeling worse for some time is normal. Having trouble digesting foods that weren't previously part of your every day diet is also normal. But I have to agree that this seems to be taking longer than the usual withdrawal issues to resolve. See your doctor. I'm not sure if my memory is serving me correctly here or not, but you were not ever actually tested... -
The quickest and most readily available study I can find is this one, in which most but not all patients were undiagnosed. Open Original Shared Link I'm sure there more info out there, which I am not going to go looking for tonight. At any rate, my point was that it can be an immediately life threatening illness, not just years from now... either way, it...

ARCHIVED Struggling As A Celiac:(
Adalaide replied to lexibrowning's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do this when I'm desperate. The grocery store right by my house sells two brands of deli meat, Boar's Head and some other brand, some of which do contain gluten. Why the hell... boggles my mind. But I make them clean the slicer and change gloves, all that if I am totally desperate. I do have a deli on the other end of the city that sells only Boar's Head... -
ARCHIVED Struggling As A Celiac:(
Adalaide replied to lexibrowning's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I also have found that most packaged lunch meat is fine. Recently I found a single one that wasn't, it was the Oscar Mayer bacon flavored balogna, and it was a clearly labeled gluten source, no hiding or any such nonsense. It is only the deli counter I worry about. -
ARCHIVED High And Low For The Day-Family Still Isn't Getting It
Adalaide replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I grew up probably in around the same area you did. Sort of more or less anyway, so I'm familiar with how the food is. It is especially frustrating when the people who are tied to you by blood just make no effort at all to be understanding or supportive. On the bright side, you don't need their permission or support to be gluten free and to feel better. ... -
ARCHIVED Where To Find Or Order Bulk gluten-free Flour In Usa
Adalaide replied to whitepine's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just buy mine from my local health food store. They sell the flours in bulk bins, but I don't feel comfortable buying out of the bulk bins since they're all back in the same area with a bunch of wheat and such. So instead I just ask them to order me an entire container, bag, box, however it comes. The benefit of this is that I get a 10% discount on the... -
ARCHIVED San Pellegrino - Blood Orange
Adalaide replied to SBlack's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The blood orange flavor is not new. It is also safe, or at least was when I bought my last one a month ago. There are ingredients in some foodss that could make someone sick other than gluten and just because someone has a gluten problem doesn't mean the culprit is always that. Please take some time to peruse the newbie thread in the coping section for links... -
You should definitely speak to someone at the church about a gluten free option. Many churches provide this and it may be offered in all sorts of ways depending on the church you attend. Yes, you are hurting yourself. I'm not sure what faith you are, but if you are Catholic you also need to refrain from drinking from a communal cup since it is contaminated...

I think one of the things that we all need to be and keep aware of is that celiac can in fact be a disease that becomes immediately life threatening. It is easy to think that it isn't and can't be because of all the complications that take place in the future but many either haven't heard of or simply don't take seriously the very rare, but very serious,...

Sorry. The nurse at the IV place yesterday told me I have a fever and the everything else came with it later. Maybe you should have scanned that email for viruses. -

ARCHIVED Perdue Gluten Free Chicken Tenders
Adalaide replied to GlutenStinks15's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had the Tyson ones, I found them at Wal-Mart I think. I haven't seen Perdue ones yet but I'll watch for them. It is always nice to have options. I love them for the same reason, they're good and quick and easy for those times when it cooking just isn't sensible for any number of reasons. -
I was just thinking that since you can't have ice cream, you can freeze a banana (it is helpful if you cut it up a little) the throw it in a blender or food processor. You don't have to add anything to it at all, but you can add a little of whatever type of milk you may be using and BAM! Ice cream! I swear, it is awesome. I was doing this all. the. time....

*snicker* You know I live in the desert right? Perfect place for disposing of.... evidence. And I'm sure that the local tomatoes will be positively delicious, even if they aren't from the back yard. You can still make caprese salad with tomatoes that other people grow. -

I don't have an ice cream maker... so going to Wendy's is just far easier for me. And yes, dipping fries in a Frosty is positively awesome! Utah is one of the first states to be getting complete remodels on all of our Wendy's (to my understanding) and they are all getting those fancy touch screen Coke soda fountains with over 100 flavor combos. We mosey in... -

My stupid iron infusions. I was so excited about them when it meant I wouldn't be sick every day for however long, and I am still thrilled that I have this option over the pills don't get me wrong... it's just... ugh. I hate the headache for a whole day nonsense. You made me want a Frosty now. There isn't anything in them I can't have. Shouldn't maybe... -

My BLT got put off until tomorrow's lunch. We were at the store and found pork um... they're basically like hamburger things. Whatever, they were yummy with some sort of maple seasoning thinger I have in the pantry and some squash and onions. My tomatoes did get roasted though so I'm all set to come home tomorrow from my IV nonsense, pop my bacon in the... -
Frozen doesn't really expand your horizons... but they're quick easy and way better than limp broccoli! I just didn't know if you had already discarded the idea based on the whole "corn thing." And if you're going to try cabbage type things and it works out, see if such a thing as bok choy exists up there in the middle of nowhere. Way easier and tastier...

Great... now she's gonna be traumatized. TED was on the other day so we watched it again, it doesn't stop being hysterical.
