  1. As I was pointing out with the digital records, there is a huge difference between them existing, and them being used. My records exist digitally throughout our large HMO type hospital system here, and yet no one ever seems to know about my latex allergy. When I mention it they're like "oh yeah, there it is... I see it now on your chart." WHAT THE HELL?!...
  2. I truly appreciate that some companies have the decency to print warnings like that on their label. I can then choose to either contact them or not about their manufacturing processes and make a choice from there. But I never eat any of those products without checking. I understand being mad, but being mad at the company when they took every precaution they...
  3. With the tat thing, I do think that there are several relevant points about that. One is where you live, and that seems to matter a lot. Where I grew up in PA it seems everyone has one and no one cares no matter the type of job you are doing, professional or not. Where I live in Utah now, a fair number of people have them but they are not so commonly accepted...
  4. I've considered one but because of my ever changing health issues and the number of problems, I've considered one of those digital ones. I've also considered just getting a med-alert bracelet tattoo because I hate hate hate jewelry. My husband is positively horrified by this idea, even though celiac is, without a doubt, for life. I know they have those med...
  5. I get pretty immediate symptoms when it happens to me, but it passes (lol) quickly. Sort of. I then have the same time frame of about 2 days to clear my schedule, clean my house, get ready, because I am about to become useless. I get to be useless for about a month with another 2 weeks afterward where I only feel mostly pathetic. At home, I made breaded...
  6. Schools generally have a policy in place for either the classroom or the whole school if they have a child with a problem. If parents haven't been notified it shouldn't be a problem. ETA: sometimes it is also just a specific nut, which means you could just use a different nut butter.
  7. omg I can't believe I didn't think of this before, but if the school isn't doing that whole "zomg the world has to be nut free blah blah blah" crap you could do ants on a log. Far more appealing than just veggies. I'll still get 1/4 of the way through a jar of peanut butter with my celery and then be like omg what happened? Plus the celery will be less like...
  8. Those are what I explained to my doctor I needed done. I explained exactly why I needed them done...blah blah blah. At least my new doctor isn't a moron. Hopefully on Thursday I can go play with the vampires again and see what the tests say.
  9. Are there good veggies that are in season? A party doesn't have to mean all junk. Maybe a veggie tray with a healthy-ish dip. And of course, as was pointed out, send your daughter with her lunch completely packed, and a treat so she feels like she isn't missing anything. Or you could just say screw it and buy a bag of chips to send.
  10. Fruit is still super sugary. Maybe you're just craving it because you're craving those refined carbs which are no better than spooning yourself full of sugar. Veggies that are high in fiber will help more. I had the same problem for a while and still have that problem if I've been glutened, after I get over the omgpleasekillmenow phase. It passes. I did my...
  11. OMG Adult Swim is hilarious! Because my husband grew up a city slicker and I grew up a farmer's daughter, he makes constant hillbilly jokes about my upbringing when Squidbillies comes on. And a good time is had by all. Well... all two of us. Have you ever noticed how things are about 6 times as hilarious at 2 in the morning when you're sleep deprived? *giggle...
  12. I'm glad you have an answer, and welcome. After looking up those supplements, my first thought is what stake does your doctor have in the company? If you purchase the cheapest way possible, 90 pills at a time, that is $200 for 45 days of supplements. And that's just the supplements, not the rest! Another $70 for probiotics, plus however many of the others...
  13. I'm throwing a boneless turkey in the crockpot for dinner tonight. I'm hoping that my husband will feel up to eating finally. Its turkey so it should be easy enough on him that he can stand at least a little of it. I'm having some summer squash with onions and brown sugar for lunch and I'll probably just have leftovers of that for dinner. I'll probably see...
  14. I am going to say this because I'm not sure anyone else noticed, and because someone who can be the "tough parent" needs to do it. If you want your parents to take your disease seriously, first you have to. Until you do, your parents won't, and you can't expect them to. You can't expect them to take things like cross contamination seriously, or statements...
  15. Our corn is tasseled and covered in pollen. This has led to an alarming discovery. I am allergic to corn pollen! I was fine out in the garden with the corn until about 10ish days ago. Then I started noticing in the evenings that my arms were itchy. My legs too sometimes, heck sometimes even my neck and head. I was slowly putting two and two together and tonight...
  16. That fried zucchini got pushed to tonight. My headache persisted enough that I simply wasn't up to more than taking care of a sick husband. There just wasn't anything energy or will left to worry about me. I know I ate something last night, but I don't remember what. I've got myself worn out all over again today. I thought my dad would drop my daughter off...
  17. As a quick update, for anyone who hasn't read through every post. I am no longer taking iron pills. I began iron infusions yesterday after speaking with my insurance people on the phone and being told it is an approved treatment. I got a call yesterday afternoon and I guess there may be some confusion on that, but as far as I can tell the hospital isn't going...
  18. So, that cleaning at my leisure got kicked into high gear. My dad who lives 2000 miles away is 2 states away! I don't know that he is coming to visit but I have to think that he may, he is retired with all sorts of time on his hands and nothing better to do than ramble about, and being that close makes me think he may just pop in. GAH!!! I better get this...
  19. OMG I SAW THAT RECIPE!!! If it wasn't 96 FREAKING DEGREES outside I would have been tempted to run straight to the store for a cake mix. I'm sure my husband will break in later with how I don't have about half of the ingredients blah blah blah, and it'll cost a small fortune for a few cupcakes. (Something about how for the price of the ingredients we could...
  20. I've always thought that comic con sounds like a load of fun... or at least used to. Not sure it hasn't outgrown itself. I had pale blue wrapping today after my iron infusion and my husband cracked a joke about how I could just wrap myself in the stuff as a comic con costume with my backpack so I could be Rainbow Dash. Frankly I think its brilliant. We...
  21. Made it home from the infusion all intact and survived it fine. (Except for the part where someone almost died in my book and I cried like a baby right when the nurse walked in. ) I got a bit of a headache from it, but nothing I won't survive with a little afternoon nap. It is incredible to feel like I could eat something without vomiting. Organizing...
  22. I'm going to pick out a few things here because they are of special importance. First is that yes, we are aware of the risks we take and I think we fall into a few different groups of people when we get glutened. First is the group who gets sick, never goes back, and just shrugs it off as someone who is incompetent. Second, there are people who get sick and...
  23. I can't even begin to imagine treating my own children this way. It makes me sick to think a mother could be like that. My best advice is that since cooking is an important life skill for anyone, you should probably offer to cook dinner a few times a week. Nothing fancy, and you can get ideas from the dinner thread. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic...
  24. I felt worse before I felt better. When I was diagnosed with celiac my husband and I were both quite sure at that point that whatever was wrong with me was probably killing me but damned if we could figure out what it was. At that point, I felt pretty much like Dani, a zombie who got hit by a bus. And those were my good days. Then I got my diagnosis and went...
  25. That peach cake sounds wonderful. I checked and I can totally do BRM vanilla cake mix. There are really good natural alternatives to food dyes if someone really cares what color the cake comes out. I'm sure it would be perfectly delicious no matter what color it is though. I've got a sick husband today so I'm not sure what I'm doing for dinner. I may...
