  1. I live in an area full of immigrants and we have more than half a dozen hispanic markets here and in the next city over... I still had to call 4 before I found one that isn't out of fresh guavas. I actually had the store by my house tell me they could order guavas for me for $7.99 a lb. I told him I'd think about it. Are these people aware that there are...
  2. I don't read newspapers unless I remember they're online. They cost money! Yeah, finances shminances here too. LOL! Babies will do that to you. Of course, so will losing your job because you get sick from some stupid disease that no doctor can figure out. I live down in Orem, right by the mouth of the canyon no less. I mean, I guess I have a mile or...
  3. I'm quite sure it is tomorrow by now, but Happy Birthday!
  4. Always nice to remind those starting out that although the road can be long and difficult and at times seem impossible if they read some of these other threads, there is hope and healing.
  5. Because I have to share my food porn over here if I'm sharing it other places. This is what a perfect donut hole looks like. (It did not survive more than several seconds beyond having its picture taken.)
  6. Holy crapola! My phone uploaded pictures to photobucket before Christmas or the apocalypse. A miracle! This is the dough. Sticky, but comes together in a ball like yeast dough should. After this, I don't need any stupid excuses about blah blah blah gluten free this that whatever. Dough. Ball. My yeast doughs can be a ball or get out of my kitchen. ...
  7. Okay, so I finally got around to my donuts. (Pictures will be whenever the heck my phone gets around to uploading them. ) The dough came together beautifully in a large ball of sticky goo. It gets rolled out in snakes like play doh, only in greased plastic wrap. Too stick for much else and unless you want to grease your counter and yourself enough to...
  8. I tolerated and told myself I liked Udi's okay when I was first diagnosed. Truth is that I just wasn't a fan of gluten free bread. I took about three months or so off of bread completely. After that I suppose I forgot what bread tastes like and feels like. I like Udi's and Rudi's both just fine, although I prefer Udi's. (Not for taste but because Rudi's has...
  9. I really don't know what to say to 2012 except that I'm glad its over for you and that I'm glad you seem to have pulled through ok. I'm laughing at the hitting a kangaroo thing because the way you say it, it sounds just like we talk about hitting a deer back in PA. Meh, hit a deer, no biggie... shrug it off and get on with your life. You might get a little...
  10. Not sure exactly where you are Rowena, but we got a couple of thunder storms over night here. Not that it did much for us, as usual the ground was bone dry by 9. Well, I guess it did do something for us. We lost power at some point over night because my computer was off this morning and my microwave clock was blinking. At least it doesn't appear from the...
  11. I have to agree that there are a lot of things about fruity pebbles that could disagree with you. My first thought before reading the other responses was that they have a LOT of color. I have eaten both kinds of pebbles and not had trouble with either.
  12. That sounds like the official redneck holiday policy! This also applies to shindigs, hootenannys and family reunions.
  13. Glad to see that you've adjusted! Life shouldn't be lived sick, not when health is so relatively easy. Yes, sometimes things happen. Meh, life goes on right? This is part of life for us and as time goes on it will happen less and less. Practice makes perfect.
  14. Believe me, if I could add more iron rich foods I would. The list of foods though reads pretty much as a list of things I either can't or shouldn't eat because of one or another medical reasons. I have no desire to give up being a functioning human being for food, even if that food is to "treat" a medical condition. I do know not to take certain things...
  15. So I've been beyond anal retentive about my diet for what feels like forever. When I was diagnosed with celiac I made the doctor do blood tests to see if I needed to be taking any sorts of vitamins. Everything came back normal with the "normal" being borderline anemic. I've had the problem since I was a teenager, I thought nothing of it. Doctors told me I...
  16. omg.... old people! Every time someone has a "back in my day" story the next person has to one up it.
  17. I wonder if they'll be stumped by a bunch of people suddenly ordering the books all at once.
  18. Oh right.... HAPPY FOURTH!!! Be safe, keep your limbs attached and don't burn anything down.
  19. My husband had a rare two days in a row off work the past two days. Which means he is heading off to work today and it is back to life as usual, holiday or no. I have a bunch of pork roasts that I cut into small "single serve" sizes for the two of us. I had gotten two out to thaw and put them in the crockpot together this morning. I'm sure I'll think of some...
  20. I've only lost one jar in the past few years. A fairly significant amount of our jars are rescues from thrift shops and while we try to inspect them for flaws there just is no way to know how old they are or if they have a weak spot. We don't buy or throw away any that seem like they aren't okay of course, and reinspect every time we are canning but that...
  21. Open Original Shared Link This is the recipe I use and it has never failed me. I use half cheddar and half parm. I like to add a load of garlic and some basil to it to go with pasta as a sub for garlic bread. I've also been known to mince apples and use those in place of half of the cheese and add sage to go with pork. Tried a few times replacing some...
  22. Some sucker who is going to clean my sidewalk. I don't want to have to clean up that mess! ETA: Not sure we could have tried today anyway... it only got up to 97.
  23. I enjoy this in the fall and winter. I find that I just don't have the stomach for hot cereals in the heat. I enjoy pairing it up or dressing it up similar to what I would do with grits or a cream of rice cereal.
  24. I missed the news that we are hitting records for being dry here. I'm too busy being locked indoors in my A/C! Holy hell it is HOT!!! I was outside this morning before sunrise but after it was light out and it was about 80. The girl who drew blood today asked me if I had plans for the holiday. Same as every year, sit around and watch the news waiting...
  25. I grew up baking with my Grammy. While I lived with my parents on the family farm, I am quite sure I spent more time in my Grammy's kitchen than I did at home. I ate enough fresh bread, cakes, pies, cookies and other goodies to add an inch to my thighs now just thinking about it. The only two things no one could ever get into me as a child were liver and...
