  1. Yeah, this can be a problem with insurance. Usually it is more likely to be an issue if you have some sort of complication, since doctors can than say it was entirely your fault for being a moron. They even tried to scare me with this at the hospital when I was getting ready to leave. You don't tell the the mother of a not yet 1 day old infant about medical...
  2. I had the sense to keep my mint potted. Not for me, but because this is my MILs house. She would have a cow if I put mint in the ground! And we're just the opposite. I don't care who does what with city water... as long as no one makes me drink it. I water my plants with it every day, and really what choice would I have? My husband says it tastes fine...
  3. We just heated up last night's leftovers tonight but I had a sudden urge to have cornbread. So I threw together some hot water cornbread really fast last minute and we both love it. Finally something he'll eat that isn't an animal!
  4. I know there are many here who do successfully plan and dine at other people's houses. I simply don't have any friends I would trust my life with. I do have friends we invite over occasionally for dinner and they usually bring drinks. Since they have kids they usually bring kook-aid. I won't touch the stuff. God only knows where the spoon it gets stirred...
  5. This is something I keep myself very aware of. There is such a thing as "leaving against medical advice." You simple begin to get ready to go, and eventually they'll bring in your release paperwork with that noted in your chart and usually why. (It was in my records from when my second daughter was born. She was lifeflighted to a NICU and they told me I had...
  6. That first link I provided explains how a genetic test can miss even a DQ2 or 8 gene. The second explains that there is an additional gene involved, DQ7 which is more fully explained in that link. And yes, I have heard of people who are biopsy diagnosed who are then genetically tested and lacking a DQ2 or 8 and then getting a doctor all pissy at them and...
  7. WOOOO!!!! For sure a reason to celebrate! I just threw a tri-tip in the oven tonight and some baked taters. I'd love to be able to do more than the lightest of housework 5 minutes at a time and hobble around the kitchen. Whatever is up I don't imagine can keep up much longer though. I'm at least getting out at twilight every night to the garden to water...
  8. Yup, Icee are the ones that are sort of "foamy." I've enjoyed a few in the past year and a half with no problem at all. It is an occasional indulgence when I find myself at a convenience store in the middle of summer and I can't get an ice cream cone. They are absolutely gluten free. There are many reactions we can have things to that seem like a reaction...
  9. I hate to say it, but it is my opinion that there is no reason to go through the pain and suffering of a gluten trial for a new biopsy if you already had a positive one. The genetic test could actually be wrong. If they didn't do the right test, they wouldn't see the right parts of the genes, and it is now generally understood that there are almost certainly...
  10. It is entirely possible that your weight loss could have been water weight from bloating or retention. This wouldn't be at all unusual. Some of the things to be checking on are sources of hidden gluten and cross contamination. The newbie thread can help with that sort of thing. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ It is also normal...
  11. I think that's called something different than brain fog! Sounds like a delightful evening. That peach cake does look positively amazing... but my husband doesn't like peaches so I'd have to eat the whole thing myself. I think I'll stick to peach cupcakes or muffins which I can freeze. Now the churros on the website, my husband would totally help eat...
  12. I have an entire "cook"book dedicated to popsicles. Some of them need to go in paper cups with sticks, and I've never worried about the sticks. Others are better in molds and I have some plastic molds I use for those. Now that it is summer again I will probably look for some more exciting mold shapes. I always like to add to my collection. No kids here...
  13. My favorite author by far is Mercedes Lackey, not classics, but certainly worn books in my house! There is nothing like tales of magic and adventure to get me so wrapped up I forget the world around me. I was just thinking about mushrooms last night. I think they are one of the next things on my list to test out and see how I do with them. Life just isn...
  14. All sorts of fruit is good, bananas were practically made for day trips. I like to take Stretch Island fruit leather, frozen grapes in the summer (in a pack that will keep them cold!), dried coconut, veggies like carrots or celery. The sorts of things I would snack on at home. If I'm going to be gone for an entire day I always plan on bringing a pack to keep...
  15. My kids only started on computer games. They have a Wii in their bedroom and were avid console gamers from the day they were old enough to use a controller. We had 3 or 4 consoles when they were 5 and 6. Tech as a babysitter drives me up a wall. The only time I ever did that was when I put my kids in front of the TV so I could get a peaceful shower knowing...
  16. My girls were both playing video games by the time they were 12 or 18 months old. Age appropriate ones that taught them computer skills of how to use a mouse and keyboard that were some Sesame Street game or other at the time. When my youngest was about 2 1/2 I told her no more games for the day and went to make dinner. She was too quiet, I came back and...
  17. Mothers are such evil creatures! I just made a meatloaf and baked potato tonight. Followed with some yogurt. Too meh to care today.
  18. I doubt she is holding you down and force feeding you sweets. Maybe you need to have a new policy of parking a mile away from the bakery for every item you plan on purchasing.
  19. Hahaha we could be best friends! You know, if we could get our noses out of books long enough to have a conversation. I took a bus trip to PA like 4 or 5 years ago and took like 3 or 4 novels with me. I thought it would be fine, we left on a Wed morning and were supposed to get there Sat afternoon. Turns out we got there late on Fri night and I was long since...
  20. This red velvet craze started months after my diagnosis. It was heartbreaking. IHOP red velvet pancakes, now there are red velvet PopTarts. Oh, and IHOP has tiramisu pancakes now. There was no small amount of swearing in my house when that commercial came on. But yes, red velvet isn't red velvet if it doesn't have buttermilk. The instructions on the...

    ARCHIVED Dreams

Its been long enough now that I don't remember it as clearly any longer, but my only dream was about corn dogs at a fair. I was at the fair with my husband but we were wandering separately and meeting up again later. As I was going to meet him I thought that I should have corn dogs, thinking that corn is safe. I remember eating half or maybe a whole dog then...
  22. I checked it out and they do! So that makes three around here, sort of. The other two both have locations in SLC but also have locations way closer to me also. I love spending an occasional day up in the city but have no desire to drive up there just for dinner. And when you decide you are in love with Brazilian cheesebread let us know. I'll share a...
  23. I don't remember any summer reading programs, but then again I didn't spend a lot of time hanging out in town in the summer either. We were farmers and didn't have time for that sort of nonsense. I did read though, a lot. Basically if I had free time you could either catch me at my Grammy's house at the piano or with a book in my hands. The only reading program...
  24. Since we have a lot of roasts in our freezer I have another out and am hoping it is ready to cook for tonight. We did baked lemon pepper chicken with mashed taters and gravy and garlic green beans last night. And of course some red velvet cupcakes for dessert. At any rate, roast or no roast, I know whats for dessert again!
  25. I wanted pink too! But there aren't really pink utensils out there. I did find pink and blue silicone spatulas at Wal-Mart for a buck. Woo-Hoo!!! I just keep these in my utensil thinger and everyone knows they're mine.
