One of the things my new doctor has told me to do is get on a regular schedule. He wasn't interested in what time I go to bed or when I get up, as long as it is the same time every day. I've been through this before, but he actually had a ready paper to hand me on a sleep study. It listed how a combination of magnesium, zinc and melatonin work quite well...

If I shop at down times of the day, when it isn't busy, I find that I can get into a checkout aisle that is always clean. On the other hand, not everyone has the amount of time on their hands that I do. I don't always have the luxury of shopping at a time of day that isn't busy either. If you shop at (locally here) 4:30-6:30, just after business hours or...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I went to the dentist at noon for a checkup and cleaning. They did a deep cleaning and offered to do it without gassing or numbing me. I about fell out of my chair laughing at the girl. I still can't feel the bottom right side of my face and the bottom left is so sore I could just die. At least I got a free pink toothbrush. I need to start making plans for... -
ARCHIVED Question... Allergy Or Celiac's
Adalaide replied to xalmostheaven8x's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if these symptoms are because you don't do anything about the very serious medical condition you have. This is a very short and not comprehensive list of symptoms. https://www.celiac.com/articles/1106/1/Celiac-Disease-Symptoms/Page1.html You'll note that after the symptoms there is a list of conditions and disorders... -

I made a fruit crisp instead of apple crisp. My husband took my fuji apple for work so I improvised. I used my tart apples, some pears and some strawberries. It could have used some corn starch or a flour dusting to thicken the fruit, but otherwise it is awesome. I used this recipe for the topping and six cups of fruit. http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes... -

I'm not going to spend all my time speculating on what happened to my stomach. I will simply curse it until it knocks off this stupid crap. I feel "better" this morning, but that is simply relative. I think I feel better enough to be making apple crisp though. Those apples aren't going to use themselves up. Everybody needs to feel better. Dinner tonight... -
You may need to simply be patient to see if anyone responds and says they have had a similar experience. It is an early spring weekend and there are a lot of people who aren't around and haven't been here to read and see this. Look at the other topics in the same area that have super high views, no replies. A fair number of those may even be random google...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't know what is wrong tonight. I'm not contaminated or anything, but I am having the worst stomach pains. I had a little earlier, but it went away and I thought nothing more of it. Then tonight when I dragged my husband out for shopping it came back. With a vengeance no less. So, the apple crisp is on hold until tomorrow. Hoping this passes by morning... -
I think that people probably think I'm paranoid. But I assume that the outside of everything is covered in gluten. I won't touch anything in a grocery store that I am not relatively sure is gluten free enough for me to be reading a label of. Even then I am pretty sure that someone who was covered in gluten was probably touching it before me. I don't have...

I'm not sure what what in the nuts, but something I have noticed going back over my reactions. My reactions to wheat, weirdly enough, last 3-5 weeks. My reactions to barley last about 2 months and are far worse at the beginning. With wheat I feel like complete hell and like I want to die. With barley I feel like I have been dragged through hell and back,...

Glad to see you are feeling better. One of the worst things in the world for me is not knowing something, so I'd be pretty close to criminally insane by now if I were in your place. Got some beautiful lettuce this morning. I popped a chicken breast in some balsamic vinaigrette to do something like get delicious. I'll throw that on my indoor grill and... -

I guess my husband has decided he wants something resembling a "real" dinner tonight since getting home. I'll crack open a holiday jar of George, roast some taters and veggies and keep it easy. I have an early morning tomorrow. Veggies at 6 and first match at 8ish. I have to admit, I'm kinda jealous that you're there. -

My oldest daughter's plan is to become a chemical engineer, save the world, get rich. I like her plan. I thought I was going to bring up this live stream and only watch my daughter's matches and that it would be dreadfully boring. I'm surprised by how much fun this whole robot thing actually is to watch. Not that I frankly care about any other robots but... -

My baby is on team 3942, the Northark Pioneers. If you see them and it doesn't seem stalkerish... tell them that Heidi says hi. That is what she calls me anywho. She knows I'm watching. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Gluten Intolerance
Adalaide replied to BZBee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only reason I know I have an issue with gluten is by accident and how I got my "label" of celiac. I had an accidental biopsy with emergency surgery, otherwise I would still be horribly ill and not know why. I would probably also still be stuffing my face with more and more things like whole grains such as wheat in an attempt to be more more healthy only... -

Better late than never with Easter dinner. Sounds yummy! We're having a late lunch for dinner since my husband has a weird work schedule today. He is leaving around 2:30 and working an evening. My daughter's First Robotics competition is this weekend too, started yesterday. So as much as possible I am glued to a live stream to watch her matches. So... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake Recipe

I use the King Arthur recipe for angel food cake, I'm not sure how well such a delicate cake would hold up to buckwheat flour but I suppose it would be worth a try. It is an excellent recipe to give a test run to by cutting in half. Also, when halved, the yolks left over are the perfect amount for Alton Brown's lemon curd for topping. I made this for Valentine...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Ugh I Got Very Sick
Adalaide replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The MSG thing has nothing to do with being gluten contaminated or gluten anything. It also isn't restricted to the gluten free community. It isn't out of the ordinary at all for MSG to make people sick in a variety of ways, just one more thing to look out for. As celiacs and the gluten intolerant there is a tendency to automatically assume when we get sick... -

I can't speak for that specific seasoning blend, but can say none of the ones I use have MSG. I can say nearly for certain though that the dressing has it. Almost every dressing on the market has MSG in it, and that one does for sure. I do also see a fair number of people saying they get gluten type symptoms from MSG. -

Glad you're okay! Sounds super scary. When I say my life is boring I also always say I like it that way. I will keep my boring life tyvm. I don't need that kind of excitement. -
I don't know how you buy your hay. I buy mind at a local farm store because paying $20 for a dinky thing of hay at the pet store seems criminal when I can buy a bale of hay for $5. Something to keep in mind though is if you buy alfalfa hay, it is not unusual at all for the rotation crop to be barley or oats, or sometimes even orchard grass. This can lead...

The McCormick spices and seasonings should be fine. I have yet to find a McCormick seasoning that does contain gluten and their labeling policy keeps there from being an issue. If it has gluten, it will be clearly disclosed on the label. You'll find that not only me, but a fair number of people may chime in saying the same thing. I have seen many people say... -
ARCHIVED Need A Break From Cooking All The Time!
Adalaide replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What I used to do when I lived with a roommate was use the crock pot and make meals on Sundays. I would make veggies and a roast and we would pack that on Sunday nights into our meals to take to work all week and our weeknight meals. It was enough to feed the two of us for 5 days, 10 meals. Depending on how many you are cooking for, how much variety you feel... -

Travel safely! Nothing wrong with a non-traditional Easter dinner, I'm sure that it was absolutely fabulous. I'm also sure that your new little man is missing you as much as you are missing him. Today we tackled the task together of attacking our Easter George to get him into jars and canned for future use. We have 14 pint jars and I have a pot of... -

When you get things straightened out there, you get right on making yourself an angel food cake. You deserve it! I do hope you are doing okay, holidays are no time to be spending in a hospital. I use the King Arthur recipe, but with the pastry flour blend from the December Living Without for the Christmas cookies. I use Alton Brown's recipe for lemon curd...
