ARCHIVED Eos Products
Adalaide replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the lip balm. But no stores anywhere near me have the sweet mint one. It kills me. I've been using the lip balm a long time. I'm shaving my legs with the shaving cream again, no ill effects. It feels so good, and it really cuts down on the amount of lotion I need after. I've never used anything else quite as amazing. -
ARCHIVED Progresso-Be Careful
Adalaide replied to notkuroda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is what I got from it as well. Instead of leaving us to label reading, they are making it idiot proof for us. For those less sensitive to CC or willing to risk questionably sourced ingredients, they can of course feel free to eat the ones without obvious gluten containing ingredients but that are not marked gluten free. In the past I have eating both... -
And don't forget that lots of things in microwaves splatter. Make sure, since you have a mixed house, that everything you nuke for yourself is covered. Just one of those things that we may not readily think about in the beginning.

ARCHIVED Tums Gluten Free?
Adalaide replied to LindaB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is sort of an old thread, but I keep Tums in my house. I suffer from very occasional heartburn but when it comes it is awful and I eat the things like candy. While I have never picked up a bottle (including smoothie flavor) that isn't marked gluten free. That said, there is a statement on their website about it. Although we do not use gluten as filler... -
Your doctor is a moron. There, I said it. It needed to be said. Oh, you only are sort of positive for celiac? Just carry on eating whatever makes you happy and come back in 3 years when you are on the verge of death or have a few new auto-immune diseases or your teeth are rotting out of your mouth because you can't absorb anything. It's cool... I mean it...

If it is celiac, the simple answer is that no amount of gluten is ever okay to consume, regardless of whether or not it causes you distress. The more complicated answer is that some people are far more sensitive than others to the least bit of cross contamination and while the 20 ppm rule may be fine for some, only foods from dedicated gluten free facilities...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

What is it about little cousins?! At least dinner sounds like a splendid end to the day. -
I'm not sure if this is "normal" but it is what happens to me. My reactions last 6 weeks or longer until I start to be a functioning human again. That is the simple wait until the pain is bearable and the fog is lifted enough to be able to think my way out of my sheets in the morning. I get a boatload of other symptoms, the stomach pain, GI, lack of energy...

It is a grieving process, and you are normal. Be pissed, God knows I was. I cried until I was physically ill when I was diagnosed, it also took me a while to get things organized enough to be ready. I got the call a week or so after Christmas and went gluten free 2 days after my birthday, which is just over a year ago now. For the first weeks I would find...

psh, it was a joke. Let the Jackiebear have the happy birthday. If it turns out as an excuse to have 2 a year, that much better!

My elliptical is right on the other side of my desk, so I actually can see it over the top of my monitor. I have been glaring at it all day. Evil torture device. It feels good to be able to be able to exercise but I'm not fond of the whole getting used to it thing. Can we both just hide in closets until our bodies adjust? I'm too used up to cook, I'll... -
Woohoo! Best decision. It does get old. I had a pity party early in the winter. I whined about everything to my husband, about none of this is fair, about how stupid it is that I can't even eat a freakin mint because it could have who knows what in it. I just want to be able to wake up one day, say hey lets do this, leave the house and go. But no, I have...

ARCHIVED New To This World, Question For The Long Timers Here
Adalaide replied to julissa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is a lot of eyetwitching and banging of heads off of hard surfaces in relation to the fad of the gluten free crap. It is double edged sword. It started (from what I gather) before I was even gluten free a year ago, but is exploding more and more. You get twits like Ryan Seacrest tweeting about "I'm going gluten free" then "I ate a bagel" an hour later... -

Those burgers sound delicious! I am happy to report that my first ever fried chicken (yes, ever) turned out freakin amazing. The only thing between me and a second piece was thoughts of buttoning my pants tomorrow. -
ARCHIVED Budesonide (Entocort)
Adalaide replied to yolmelee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have no experience with it, but did you call the manufacturer before filling the prescription to verify that the pills are gluten free? -

That makes two excited people, the other one being my husband who has been complaining that we paid for this thing and I'm not even using it. I should be excited, and I am excited about my ability, but the whole getting used to it again and sore muscles is not high up on my list of exciting things. Hopefully IH is faring better at the gym. -
ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm trying to expand my horizons for lunch. Especially since I am charged with feeding an ever increasingly picky toddler. (Although I have discovered he will always eat his veggies if I give them to him while I make the rest of lunch. Hunger always overrides being picky!) Today I made my first buckwheat pancakes. My grammy used to make them for me... -

Oh, and I should point out that my husband is an awesome kitchen helper. I think it is probably better that way than him actually cooking. I like the spare set of hands, and I like being able to heap vegetables on his plate when he isn't looking. -

So far the only brand of this that I have found is PAN. (While it does have a cc warning, the bakery I frequent uses it and tests it regularly and it has never tested positive for gluten.) It is not cornmeal treated with lime, which is an entirely different animal. Or corn as the case may be. Corn treated with lime is masa harina, precooked cornmeal is masarepa... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Recommendations ?
Adalaide replied to Worried mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will start off by saying that what I say is entirely my opinion. I was tested for deficiencies immediately at diagnosis. I think everyone should be. I wasn't deficient enough in anything to be alarming and went on my merry way. I was tested again at a year (which was very recently) and it seems that due to the additional restriction put on me later I became... -

I have a pretty fantastic husband, but I need one of them cooking men. He sounds awesome! I actually have to cook my own food like a normal human being. I suppose between all of the other amazing stuff mine does for me though I can learn to live with cooking for myself. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel My Pain?
Adalaide replied to Ashlynn6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband and I live with his mother. Early in my diagnosis his mother brought home KFC and put it on the kitchen counter and the smell filled up the entire house. I cried like a toddler denied candy in the check out aisle. Not because it is good for me, but because I just wanted to be normal. Mostly now I get by okay. Last month I even drove my husband... -
ARCHIVED Pork Tenderloin & Pot Roast - Are Meats Gluten-Free?
Adalaide replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And was it literally the only thing you ate? And do you always/normally react that quickly? -
Unfortunately, as pointed out, that Colgate is not corn free. I was attempting to find something corn free but couldn't. What I use has a xylitol that is sometimes birch derived and sometimes corn derived. Hopefully that Squigle will work out for you. You could, as a last resort, always take the old fashioned homemade toothpaste route as well. It won't taste...

My one year gluten-free anniversary also happens to coincide with my birthday. (Give or take 2 days.) For my birthday before going gluten-free I indulged in red velvet cake. For my birthday this year I found a gluten-free bakery and bought a half dozen red velvet cupcakes. In my defense, I let my husband have one. I have also taken up one of my favorite passions...
