  1. I haven't seen any gluten free Lindt chocolates either. They all either contain gluten or may contain traces of gluten grains. Pauliina
  2. Yes, different labs have different scales, you need to know the reference ranges of an individual lab to make any sense of their results. Pauliina
  3. I can't handle peanuts, beans or peas either. I eat almond butter instead. More expensive but yummy. Pauliina
  4. Susan, this might not be a practical suggestion at all, and I wouldn't be offended if someone wants to flame me for saying so - but how about having ONE drink on the 4th? But I really mean ONE only! My personal belief is, that an addiction isn't really over until you can choose to have something in moderation, and stop when you decide to. I know it's...
  5. Taz, here's the deal: Gluten is the protein in wheat, barley and rye. Starch is not protein but, well, starch. Those are two differents stuffs that make up wheat. NOT ALL wheat starch is considered gluten free, only wheat starch that is produced to a certain standard, where the starch has been separated from the gluten well enough that there's only...
  6. An angle to think about maybe, not that I have any kind of scientific proof or anything... but to me alcohol makes my head feel a bit the same as gluten does. After quitting eating gluten, might it be that your brain is craving something similar? Maybe being completely "gluten free sober" is somehow too odd? Another maybe slightly wacky idea... a friend...
  7. I get more or less the same symptoms as from gluten. Yours could also be from just lactose, milk sugar. You could try some milk with Lactaid and see if you still get symptoms. Pauliina
  8. I'm a bit confused that you say you might cut out wheat, too? Gluten is in wheat, I don't see how you could have had anything with wheat without glutening yourself? I hope you feel better soon! Pauliina
  9. Hi Laura, welcome! For what it's worth, I think your symptoms sound very typical of celiac or gluten intolerance. You might want to think about getting tested, or failing that, trying the diet and then challenging with gluten a few weeks later. Don't go gluten free if you plan to be tested! Good luck! Pauliina
  10. If you indeed have celiac, as the intestines get more damaged your test results should also get higher in the positive range. So you could test again. But keep in mind that you might have to be pretty sick before you do test positive, many people on this board have chosen not to wait for that to happen but have tried the gluten free diet without a diagnosis...
  11. Yeah you're probably loosing water weight. And my endurance and also shot up after going gluten free, it was great! Now I've gotten used to it, lol. Pauliina
  12. Hi Henry, welcome on the board! I did feel better in some ways immediately after going gluten free, but also worse in some others. And the first few months were a rollercoaster of better days and worse days. So your experience sounds quite normal to me. Pauliina
  13. Oh, Lisa, that's terrible! I'm sorry you're sick. Pauliina
  14. Lauren, you can't get a more positive test than a positive biopsy. It would not make sense to check the biopsy with a blood test, usually they do the biopsy to check if the blood results were correct, you see what I mean? Especially since your doctor seems to be one of the celiac experts. Pauliina
  15. What Cathy said about hunger caught my eye... I was always hungry as well! Or, not like starving hungry, but at least peckish... my husband used to joke that I eat all the time, because I was always snacking. Aftre going gluten free, after a while I started to have this wonderful feeling that what I ate really satisfied me and I didn't feel the need to eat...
  16. Yeah what Tiffany said. Lactose is sometimes used as a sweetener by itself but I would be concerned about traces of casein. You can also sometimes see milk protein as a ingredient on it's own, that's casein. That might be ok for a person who is only lactose intolerant, if a product only contained a small amount of milk protein. Fat dairy products like whipped...
  17. I'd just like to add that if you're feeling just fine gluten-free, I don't really see the point in worrying about other intolerances. As far as I know other foods aren't likely to cause the kind of damage that gluten does, so if you don't feel ill, I would just enjoy that. Not trying to brush off your worries, but I think you could safely adopt a wait-and...

    ARCHIVED Fiance

Lots of good advice here already! I just had to say, I loved that book (Men are from Mars, Women from Venus) as well! My Husband and I read bits of it to each other and kept saying "Really?!?! That's how you really think!?!? How weird!" It really has helped us understand how we often react very differently, and how we long for different things from...
  19. You know I'm actually rather shy especially about calling people I don't know on the phone. But it was so worth it! It all went so well because I'd got up my courage to arrange things in advance. Pauliina
  20. I was in England over the weekend, to attend an aikido seminar. Saturday evening most of the group were planning to go out to dinner and of course I was rather nervous about that beforehand. Oh, and I was staying with people that I didn't know at all, local members of the dojo where the seminar was held. So, eek. Anyway, I emailed the guy doing all...
  21. Hey that's great! I've only been able to eat veggies and fish lately, and the only good thing about that is that I've lost a lot of weight as well. Hate it when I have to buy new clothes, too... Pauliina
  22. You can be intolerant to eggs too. You can pretty much be intolerant to anything as far as I know. Basically, if it makes you sick, don't eat it. Pauliina
  23. I use a lid thingy over my dish in the microwave, both to keep the microwave clean and to protect my food. Never had a problem so far. though it's only me and my husband, and he rarely uses it anyway, he's a bit suspicious of the microwave for some reason. Pauliina
  24. If caffeine doesn't normally make you sick, it's more likely it was something in the food, methinks... CC wouldn't be a big surprise, it happens so easily. Hope you feel better soon, in any case! Pauliina
  25. My mouth just fell open when I read that a positive ttg wasn't enough for the doctor!!! AAAArgh! Could she have a biopsy, positive ttg means there's a good chance of damage, it would be difficult to ignore THAT? Pauliina
