ARCHIVED Immumoglobin A
aikiducky replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
...or if you do, it's in early beginning stages and doesn't show on tests yet. Did you have some symptoms, or were you tested because a family member has celiac disease? Sorry I haven't read all posts... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
aikiducky replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I kinda eat a paleo diet like diet, since I (on top of gluten of course) avoid legumes and nightshades, and dairy, and generally don't eat a lot of grains. So I end up eating a lot of veggies and fruit plus meat and fish. I do have a couple rice cakes for breakfast though but that's all grain I usually have in a day. I was completely sugar free for a while... -
ARCHIVED Spelt Flour
aikiducky replied to mnbrave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some people who have a wheat allergy, but not celiac disease, can apparently tolerate spelt. That might be where the confusion comes from. For a celiac, spelt is a no no. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED My Enterolab Test Results, Please Help
aikiducky replied to kathy2005's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kathy, I don't have anything to add, just wanted to say that to me your plan sounds like a good one. I hope you'll continue to get better and better! Pauliina -

ARCHIVED I Need Help...
aikiducky replied to Guhlia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When they did the celiac blood tests, which tests did they run? Did they check that she isn't IgA deficient? If she is IgA deficient (it's more common in celiacs than other people, too!) she will never test positive in the blood, but has to be diagnosed by biopsy. Could you kidnap her for a vacation to your house and only feed her gluten-free food for... -
ARCHIVED Burping....for The Last 1hr
aikiducky replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just read on your other thread that you have been on a gluten challenge until recently? If you just went gluten free a few days ago, you'll probably have all kinds of symptoms from the gluten for at least a couple weeks still. It takes time before the immune reaction in your body calms down. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED I Can't Live Like This!
aikiducky replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I gotta agree with the others. Plus, honey, I don't think you're thinking straight. Gluten can do that to you. You can always be tested for all the parasites and tropical diseases in the world if you wish, even if you are gluten free, can't you? Not going gluten free ONLY because you want to make sure it isn't something else honestly doesn't... -
ARCHIVED Im Still Sick And Very Scared..
aikiducky replied to amethystium-sky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The previous posts already covered most of it I think, so just one more question - have your vit. B12 levels been checked? Many celiacs are deficient, and I know vegetarians have to keep an eye on it, and considering you're both... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED New Member--symptoms Worse After Being Gluten Free For A While?
aikiducky replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think that sounds like a pretty sensible plan. Indeed, if you feel better on the diet, why not? And if the biopsy doesn't discover complete villous atrophy, well, it doesn't give you a diagnosis but at the same time it also tells you that you haven't done too much damage yet, so in a way its also good news. And if it discovers something else, it's good... -
ARCHIVED When Will It Finally Sink It?
aikiducky replied to prinsessa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can teach yourself a new habit if you take your time to do it and make it into a bit of a game. Like decide that this is "Read The Label Week" and read the label on everything you eat this week, even though you are absolutely positively sure that it's gluten free. Read the labels on everything you use in cooking even if you already bought it ages ago... -
ARCHIVED New Member--symptoms Worse After Being Gluten Free For A While?
aikiducky replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
JenKuz, you might think that people are more understanding if you have a definitive diagnosis but the truth is, most people don't really care. What they will respond to is how certain youfeel about your diet. I ignorantly went gluten free before my blood tests, had a negative test result and so never progressed to a biopsy (because my doc was... -
ARCHIVED How Fast Do You Feel Like Normal Again After Getting Glutened?
aikiducky replied to Yenni's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel about 90% two weeks after a glutening, but completely normal only after three weeks or so. Pauliina -
This was my thought, too. How serious have you been about casein? I find that anything with even a trace of cross contamination with cows milk will give me symptoms just as bad as gluten. It's even more of a pain than eliminating gluten but really if it's what you need to do then you should do it. Ok a really obvious question but the yoghurt is also...

ARCHIVED Wheat Starch
aikiducky replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also not all wheat starch is made equal. The wheat starch that is used in SOME gluten-free products here in Europe is specifically made to contain gluten only under a certain norm. NOT all european products containing wheat starch are in this category, just the ones that use the wheat starch that is "pure" enough. Even so, not all european celiacs (including... -

ARCHIVED Catch Y'all Later.
aikiducky replied to penguin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Another idea, I don't know how well it would "fit" this board... on other discussion forums that I read, moderators are much more strict with jumping into a thread that is getting off-topic, and asking people to please stay on topic. Of course that does mean more work for the mods... Actually - to somewhat take back what I just said - thinking about... -
ARCHIVED How Has The Forum Helped You?
aikiducky replied to CarlaB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ursula, I just wanted to let you know that you have already paid it forward! It was after reading a link in your sig about lectins that I realized I'm sensitive to some of them (legumes, nightshades and eggs) and cut those out. It explained some mystery "glutenings" I kept having! I've since been able to reintroduce moderate amounts of eggs and potato starch... -
ARCHIVED New Member--symptoms Worse After Being Gluten Free For A While?
aikiducky replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know the feeling of "is this all in my head?" But seriously, stop and think for a moment. Your symptoms are quite severe, and the improvement on a grain freee diet was dramatic. That not only in your head! Trust what your body is telling you, even if the tests happen to come back negative. And.. let us know how you're doing! This board is a great resource... -
Hi Ricco, Welcome on the forum! I'm not Dutch but I live in the Netherlands as well. Have you also found the Dutch discussion board on www.coeliakieforum.nl? I don't usually post much because writing Dutch takes me so much time but I read it and it's very useful for new products etc. Pauliina

I never used to feel nauseous until I went gluten free, then for the first... about six months I'd say, I had nausea off and on that didn't seem to have any pattern, it just came and went on it's own. After the first six months I've only had it when I get glutened or caseined. So I figure in my case it had to do with the healing process... Two home...

ARCHIVED 12 Weeks Of Hell
aikiducky replied to Chris E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chris, the tingling could be a symptom of vit B12 deficiency which is very common with celiac. You should have your levels checked. The headaches and indigestion are also quite typical symptoms. All in all yuo sound like a really typical case of celiac, so I think it's well worth it to try the diet after the testing is done. Reaction time after eating... -
I just eat a lot of fish. I would think it tastes better... I have noticed that it helps my brain fog if after a glutening I eat a lot of green leafy stuff with salmon. Pauliina

ARCHIVED Casein Reaction Or Glutening?
aikiducky replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
If you have been having small amounts of dairy here and there, and never had a massive reaction like this, I'd guess cc is more likely? My casein symptoms are pretty much the same as gluten. The easiest way to test casein is give it up completely for a while, then eat some. Trust me, you'll know! Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
aikiducky replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is kinda interesting, I got 6 out of 16, but... I could have answered yes to every single question a couple years ago. And a lot of them were still close enough that I hesitated whether or not I should say yes or no... like for instance, I'm not dizzy a lot, but often enought that I don't think it's completely normal, and my dark circles under eyes have...
