ARCHIVED How To Deal In A Non-gluten-free Household?
aikiducky replied to tracii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dishwashers - I don't have one, but my parents do, and I'm the only one eating gluten free at their place. I've so far been ok. When I take a plate from the cupboard I do check that it's shiny and clean, ditto for utensils. Sometimes dried up food might not get cleaned by the dishwasher, if I come across something like that we soak it and wash it again. My... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Symptoms Of Allergy To Casein?
aikiducky replied to Kelly J.'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not allergic to casein, but intolerant. My symptoms are much like my glutening symptoms, first D then C, brain fog, irritability, fatique...and I'm sure I'm forgetting some symptoms, I haven't had any dairy for a while. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Emotional Impact Of celiac disease
aikiducky replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With me depression and anxiety are very clear symptoms of a glutening, and I'm pretty much never depressed or anxious if I haven't been glutened, even when stuff happens that could be depressing. So it's not a depression about celiac or not being able to eat stuff or whatever, but a chemical reaction in my case. It's funny, I've been having a really bad... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal In A Non-gluten-free Household?
aikiducky replied to tracii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tracii, if the doc is planning to only do a biopsy, and you've been gluten free for years and only on gluten for a week, it's almost certain that the biopsy won't show signs of celiac. You really need to consider this. Because when the biopsy comes back "negative", most likely the doc will be adamant that you don't have celiac...which will make it more difficult... -
There must be a German celiac society, have you tried looking for them? They might keep lists of safe brands etc. In general I think you'd be mostly ok with just reading the labels, especially in Germany, they're pretty accurate with that kind of thing. Do look out for glucose syrup, dextrose or maltodextrin as those can be wheat-derived and they don...

ARCHIVED How Common Are False Negatives?
aikiducky replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The way it works is celiac is a progressive disease in a way, you might have symptoms before you have extensive damage to the intestines, and bloodwork results are more likely to give false negatives if the damage isn't very far developed yet. One thing you can do is put up with the symptoms, keep eating gluten and test periodically to see if the numbers... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
aikiducky replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm no expert, but if your having normal bms, I'd think eating lots of fiber and drinking lots of water would be enough... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Trouble 'stomaching" Magnesium?
aikiducky replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was wondering too if there was some reason that you couldn't just take a lower dose? Try to find the dose that you can tolerate? Magnesium works well as a laxative for me, too but if I keep under a certain dose and spread it through the day it's ok. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Son Getting Leg Pain Again
aikiducky replied to mart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep in mind that the "glutened" symptoms can sometimes go on for a couple or even three weeks after just one exposure to gluten. So the leg pain might be from one random accidental glutening last week for example. If they go away again in a couple weeks I wouldn't worry too much... if they continue though, that could mean there's an evil hidden gluten ... -
I'm in mourning for my normal stools... I was at the point early this year that I was mostly feeling good, and my stools were of the 3 and 4 variety... and now I'm back to a wide variety again, if you know what I mean... Blaah. If i get back to normal, I'm definitely going to celebrate! Pauliina

ARCHIVED European Food Additive Numbers
aikiducky replied to annieo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I found a list for you in English... Open Original Shared Link I did remember correctly, in the 1400s there are some things that are starches, but those do have to be listed in the ingredients if they're from a gluten containing grain. I haven't seen those numbers on a lot of products anyway. Pauliina -
Take a big dose of vit. Bs? Pauliina

Corinne, that's really encouraging to hear! I can only eat vegetables, fish and meat at the moment, and I've been worried about energy as well. It's silly really because I haven't actually had less energy, I'm just worried that I might, lol. Pauliina

ARCHIVED European Food Additive Numbers
aikiducky replied to annieo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Don't take this as a hard rule, because it's just from my memory, but I think the numbers to watch out for are in the 1400s. But in any case, if an additive is derived from a gluten containing grain, they have to say that on the label. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Ok, I Gotta Ask This...
aikiducky replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No-one thought I looked sick before I went gluten free, but now, 19 months gluten free, people have started to comment how well I look! So apparently I didn't exactly look that healthy before, but it was subtle. I'm pale, too, but this spring I've put more colour on than before. I think it might be a sign that my vitamin levels have improved. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Kitchens...
aikiducky replied to wonkabar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kristy, to me it sounds like you're doing a really good job already, especially since you say your son is doing well. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Two Things - Maybe It's The Goats Milk, And - I Was Able To Help A Friend!
aikiducky posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
<= huge grin! I was talking with a friend who mentioned she'd been on a gluten free diet as a child. She looked very surprised when she saw my reaction! I urged her to go back gluten free because celiac doesn't go away... Anyway, just recently saw the same friend again. Turns out, she'd been talking with her girlfriend, who it turns out, also was... -
ARCHIVED Please Help With This Constipation
aikiducky replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I want to second all that Burdee said, very good advice! Monica, if you happen to be casein intolerant, then yes, even a little bit will harm you, just like with gluten. You might not get very obvious symptoms, but it could just be enough to keep you constipated. I'm not a big fan of neat goats milk either, but I like goats cheese. And I only eat that... -
ARCHIVED Rollercoaster.....
aikiducky replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you got glutened last thursday you could still have been feeling that reaction. My reactions are usually: 2-3 days of feeling really bad, then 2-3 days of getting better, the day 6 or 7 BAM the reaction is back, and then after that it tapers off. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Please Help With This Constipation
aikiducky replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Monica, have you tried substituting with goats milk products instead of cows milk? Maybe you would tolerate those better. I think in any case you should try, even if its just for a few days, to cut all dairy out and see how you feel. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
aikiducky replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I had die off symptoms for maybe a week, tops, last week. Nothing since, just feeling better and better all the time. Just to say, my experience seems to confirm what you're saying. Pauliina no msg problems, just seeing how you all are doing -

Nini, both me and my husband are self-employed, I sooo know where youre coming from! We're able to survive for two reasons besically, one, we rent a house dirt cheap and two, we don't have any kids to take care of. I do wish you luck with building up your business! Pauliina -
Most likely, yes. Pauliina

ARCHIVED The End Of The Road
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Even if you're gluten intolerant it means completely gluten free, even after a few months. Sorry. I seriously think that what you're smoking might have a big part in your anxiety. Going gluten free will change your body chemistry, you need to find out what your new level of tolerance is. When I've been glutened by just a little bit of cc, I...
