ARCHIVED Blood Test - Advice Needed
aikiducky replied to peasoup's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Katherine, I hope you realize that you also have to watch out for barley and rye, and oats, besides wheat, in order to be really gluten free? Just thought I better mention it just in case. I don't have an official diagnosis for a similar reason to yours, I was gluten free for six weeks before my bloodtests, they came back negative but I didn't feel like... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
aikiducky replied to mcoop911's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well it makes sense really when you think that your intestines haven't been able to absorb nutrients properly, possibly for a very long time. I've heard people mention low vit. D here before. Youre lucky to love to cook - that's aboslutely the easiest way to make sure your food is gluten free! Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Can Gluten Really "live" In Plastic Dishes Even When Washed?
aikiducky replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really think the biggest problem are colanders and wooden spoons, because those really are hard to clean thoroughly. Most other things should be ok. Oh, and the can opener! A small can opener is surely not too much to ask for? Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
aikiducky replied to mcoop911's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Sounds like you found a really good doctor. Your idea of keeping your diet very simple for now is a good one, plain unprocessed stuff is also the most nutricious and your body can use all the good stuff right now. This board is a good place for information, also if you have a look at the parent site celiac.com there are safe and... -
ARCHIVED My Next Step
aikiducky replied to Curious121's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You'll probably find out for yourself I'm afraid. Most people become more sensitive to minute amounts of gluten after cutting it out of their diet, and yes a bread crumb is enough to make you sick. And sure you can get a bread crumb or food crumb in your mouth from kissing. My hubby always wipes his mouth and rinses quickly with water before kissing me... -
ARCHIVED Glucose Syrup
aikiducky replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glucose syrup is made from corn, potatioes or WHEAT most often. There's only a very small chance of it having gluten though. In Europe, even though allergens have to be declared on labels, they don't have to say what the glucose syrup is made from and many coeliacs eat it apparently without problems. I react though. I don't know what the labeling... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Info About Gluten And Light Intolerance
aikiducky replied to Anise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know about the gluten connection, but a car accident (even a long time ago) and light sensitivity raises a red flag for me. Google "EEG Neurofeedback. " for a way to recover from head injuries. Sorry to be short, i'm on my way to work... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED The Do'h I Glutened Myself Thread
aikiducky replied to Saz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope I haven't glutened/caseined myself... I'm at the stage where I have gas, and my heart flutters, and I'm a bit bloated, and I just don't know whether it's just indigestion or if I'll wake up tomorrow with no energy at all and feeling depressed. I usually don't get major d, it's the messing with my head that I'm worried about. And it's still going to... -
ARCHIVED The "gluten Safe" Kitchen
aikiducky replied to Helena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it sounds like you're doing a great job, and it's awesome that your parents are so supportive. You're taking more or less the same cautions I do living in a house with a gluten eating husband. So far I've been ok (two years gluten free). I don't think washing dishes in the same dishpan is a problem. Really i think the likelyhood of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Scared. Frustrated. Steroids!?!? Whats Going On?!
aikiducky replied to Lyza Jay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mention that you were glutened a while ago, how long ago was that? It can take weeks to recover especially if it's a thorough glutening, so if it was very recently I would first wait and see. Eat naturally gluten free foods like fruit, veg and meat and fish, that way you can be sure you don't gluten yourself again. The tests can sound scary... -
ARCHIVED Help! No Potato Chips?! (lectin Problem?) Replacement?
aikiducky replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is there some reason why you can't eat plain tortilla chips? I can't have potato chips either, and that's what I have if I crave a salty greasy snack. Or popcorn. For lunch, maybe bring some rice cakes to have with your leftovers? Bananas? Carrots... umm can't think of anything else right away... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Down And Confused
aikiducky replied to brizzo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Three months gluten free could definitively affect your test results. In a way, it's actually good news, because this test result means you have been diligent on your diet and haven't made too many mistakes! You feel better on the diet. That's the bottom line. Pauliina -
I gotta say, I think that if gluten was the only problem, cc or no cc you should have noticed some little improvement by now. It sounds to me like your even more careful than I am, and I'm really careful! Eliminating dairy is a good place to start, and looking at other possible food intolerances/allergies is the next. After that, I'd consider seeing...

ARCHIVED What Do You Make Of This?
aikiducky replied to Debbie44's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The symptoms can vary a great deal from one person to the next. Some members of this board have had a biopsy showing a lot of damage and still have no symptoms, hopefully they'll chime in. A high positive blood test result tells you that your daughters body indeed does react to gluten, even though she doesn't show obvious outside symptoms. You said she... -
I know that so well! I've had to consciously learn to be happy with how my hubby does things when he does them - it's not fair to ask him to help and then criticize all the time after all I feel. You'll get physically better in time ...until then, maybe just choose to let thing get done "not quite right"? I work at home so I can't help you with ideas...

Marlene, I hope you don't mind if I pick at a little thing you mention. Maybe it'll give you a different perspective on things. If not, remember that I'm not in your shoes and don't really know you, so just take it if it's useful and leave it if it isn't, it's meant in a friendly way anyway. Are your other kids not capable of helping, or just not...

For a practical suggestion - start with stocking up on tasty alternatives. Go grocery shopping and buy some juicy fruits and some meat and veggies, if you have a health food store nearby, invest in some gluten free cookies and treats. The THROW OUT everything that has gluten in it. Don't give yourself the chance to be tempted! I just realized that this...

ARCHIVED My Yo Yo Diet.....
aikiducky replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What tarnalberry said. Then, on the other hand, HELLO? You take out gluten from your diet - you get better. You reintroduce it - you get worse. Sounds like you've done a diet challenge several times over. Does it really matter what the tests say at this point? You're going to go gluten free anyway, aren't you? Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Should I Bother With My Hmo
aikiducky replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you can afford it, I'd do everything - have your doctor do the blood tests, send some poo off to Enterolab , and after all testing is done, try the diet. Make sure your doctor orders the correct blood tests though, they're often clueless about which ones you need. Pauliina -
It's funny, my period was early this month, so I didn't think of it, and I even posted last week that I thought I'd been glutened because I had gas and loose stools and horrible heartburn...turns out the day my period started that heartburn dissappeared like turning a switch, it was really odd. The gas and loose stools on the first couple of days of a...

I'm glad there are people who take the time to post a "welcome" and a "don't worry, it'll get better" as well! I often forget, and just jump right in with a piece of advice...all in all, it's good we do have all our different personalities posting here. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Headache, Nausea, Belching, Dreaming About Being Sick...
aikiducky replied to JenKuz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could it be that's why your symptoms got worse again all of a sudden? After being gluten free for a little while, you start to react more strongly to glutenings, even small ones. I got glutened two days ago, and I'm having horrible reflux, too. But I know, since I've been gluten free for two years now, that it's not an on going problem and it'll clear... -

ARCHIVED Have Candida, Celiac And Lactose Intolerance Help With Food Ideas Please!
aikiducky replied to curlysue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, just a quick answer.... last spring, for a while, all I could eat was green veg and meat or fish. So that's what I ate, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I basically had stir fry three times a day. Anyway, you know it's probably not forever, so just get a good variety of veggies and some cans of tuna, some chicken etc. and cook yourself a meal...
