ARCHIVED The End Of The Road
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It could be that it hits you harder now that you are gluten free. The same thing happened to me and alcohol, after going gluten free I could hardly drink anything because the effect was so big. So see if you can smoke a bit less. You might feel less panicky in general that way. The gluten free diet HAS had effect, you know it! We keep telling you, in... -
ARCHIVED Help - I've Gained 10 Lbs. In Less Than 2 Wks.!
aikiducky replied to jen3175's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd say that on one hand, you probably need to eat, and on the other, you need to eat high quality food now. Your body is craving nutrients that it has been missing, so eat as many veggies and meat and fish and fruit as you can and keep the gluten free goodies just for occasional treats. But don't try to force yourself to eat too little, your body does need... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
aikiducky replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel it's funny what you said about the other support groups and them avoiding gluten as well. I've been on my veggies and meat/fish diet for candida for two weeks now and I feel pretty normal again! Not completely ok but I know it's something that will take a while. Anyway, I know lots of people try to treat candida unsuccesfully, and I'm wondering if... -
ARCHIVED Diarrea---not Fun..
aikiducky replied to gabrielle's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd wait before removing else from your diet, it could very well be from the supplements if they weren't gluten free. It's not unusual for symptoms to change after you've been gluten free for a while, btw. Pauliina -
I've been reading this thread with interest because my husband also reacts strongly to changes in his blood sugar. We haven't actually tested the levels, but it's become obvious that he shouldn't either have a rapid lowering of it OR a rapid rise. He used to get sick when he had a long day, got very hungry, and then got home and ate a big meal too quickly...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Done
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cathy, didn't you just post that you had had an gluten experiment? Was that before or after the follow up blood test? Pauliina -
How about nuts and raisins? I usually carry around a little tupperware box of those. Pauliina

ARCHIVED Questions About My Gi
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He doesn't know what he's talking about. The recommendation is still that you shouldn't go gluten free before testing. Though two weeks isn't very long, with a bit of good luck you might still have antibodies in your blood. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated! Help Me! Please!
aikiducky replied to olalisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah definitely let your family know! That way they might be more willing the next time to make the extra effort to go to a place that is familiar with gluten free. Sorry you got sick. I know it's hard to be assertive about your diet in the beginning . I don't eat out at all becuase frankly it's too much of a risk that I would even enjoy it, and I... -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Definition In Europe
aikiducky replied to CMCM's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Taylor, I really think you're going to be ok. You know, if i was traveling to the US I would be worried as well! It's just always a hassle to travel to a place where you don't have your usual comforting routine... What you should do with "gluten free" labels is READ THEM. If there are no obvious gluten sources listed, and the label says "gluten... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics - Do They Make Good Bacteria Start Growing In You?
aikiducky replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think I read somewhere that probiotics in general aren't very effective in re-populating the intestine. So that would mean taking them indefinitely. I'm not entirely happy with that thought either though. Dunno. Pauliina -
If she has bad D she should be nowhere near preparing food!!! Pauliina

ARCHIVED All Of The Healing Is Reversing
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I like pineapple juice. Do remember to check labels even with things like juice! You know, from how you describe that you quite suddenly developed the rash, and the gurgles, it sounds to me like you might have gotten some gluten somewhere without noticing it, it sounds a lot like you might be having a gluten attack. What have you eaten, drank or touched... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take Your Symptons To Kick In After Eating Gluten?
aikiducky replied to HillaryT's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In my case, about 5-6 hours. First I get bloated and gassy ...or even before that i can get really irritable and moody... then tired, and loose yucky stools, followed by several days of constipation, depression and fatique. To keep it short. It's logical that you're not 100%, you're never going to BE 100% if you keep cheating! Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Sent A Letter To A Celiac Friend....

ARCHIVED Lays Stax
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to get d from chips... then I discovered that I should avoid all nightshades, which includes potatoes. Goodbye chips... I think I had a couple "glutenings" that weren't due to gluten after all before I figured this out. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Blaah... I Think I Have Candida
aikiducky replied to aikiducky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's true that i've been eating quite a lot of fruit lately, I love fruit and it's become my new treat really. And i recently discovered a department store here in town carries gluten free candy, so I've had more of that than in a long time...duh. What got me to go sugar free last weekend was I started to have a really rumbly stomach, too, among other... -
ARCHIVED Blaah... I Think I Have Candida
aikiducky replied to aikiducky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The strange thing is I don't even remember when I would have been on antibiotics the last time. When I was really little. So I wonder what made it break out like that just now, unless it was just that the weather turned very warm very suddenly. The banana was maybe not such a good idea after all. I think it just slowed down the die off and that's... -
ARCHIVED Blaah... I Think I Have Candida
aikiducky replied to aikiducky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thought I'd post an update... I feel much much better today! I had a couple days of feeling really toxic, I felt like a slimy slug really, a hard to describe feeling. Even my poo smelled mouldy... But yesterday towards the evening it started getting better and today I feel pretty much like myself again! I know it's going to take a long time to really... -
ARCHIVED All Of The Healing Is Reversing
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jen pretty much covered it all already. DONT PANIC! There are people on this board all the time posting about feeling worse when they start the diet. It seems to be a part of the healing process. I definitely felt worse the first months on the gluten free diet. Your body is still trying to figure out how to function without the evil gluten, it'll calm... -
I was in the supermarket the other day and just out of curiosity had a look at an Amstel Lite bottle... second ingredient was barley malt. Just FYI. Of course it might not be the same stuff they sell over there in the states... Pauliina

ARCHIVED Week Three Gluten Free, Help?
aikiducky replied to LilBetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It will get better! It's been mentioned here before, but if you don't already, do take a vitamin B complex. If you have absorbtion problems due to a lot of damage, a sublingual works better though. Lots of celiacs have a vit. B deficiency and that will really affect your mood. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED So What Do You Do When You Can't Sleep?
aikiducky replied to megsylvan2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I go to bed later. I realize this isn't an option for people who have to get up early for work though. I just don't go to bed before I'm sleepy, sometimes it means I go to bed at 5.30am... Oh yeah, sitting in front of a computer screen doesn't help. Reading a book might be a better idea. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Speed Of Onset Of Symptoms
aikiducky replied to Dinbren's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes its possible that you got glutened. Some people react immediately, some take a few hours and some only react the next day. I usually notice in 5-6 hours or so if I accidentally eat something with gluten. You might feel tired for a while. I usually feel completely normal two.three weeks after a glutening, but I'm tolerably ok after a few days. Pauliina
