ARCHIVED I need support from those who know
deb445 replied to EasterLily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
EasyerLily, I'm so sorry to hear about your difficult days! Your stomach is going to go through tremendous healing, as are you. Please remember to be kind to yourself I wondered if you have considered probiotics to assist with the healing? I found kombucha & kefir to be great. Your swollen throat and energy levels made me think thyroid. Is... -
ARCHIVED numbnes, pins and needles... after gluten free diet
deb445 replied to artsunshine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought of MSM as a supplement, and Magnesium. It helped my son with the pins and needles and aching legs. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Toothpaste
deb445 replied to sweetsailing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We use Green Beaver toothpaste. We also will periodically use bentonite clay paste. Good luck -
ARCHIVED Bloating - Help? :(
deb445 replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yeah. The corn bloat. I sure don't miss it! I also find that MSM helps reduce inflammation. Best, D -
ARCHIVED Snacks In The Classroom....causing Problems
deb445 replied to GDLions's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My little guy (now grade 2) has had a rough go of it at school too. Glutened at least once a month. September alone had him sick 3 times. We seem to be doing ok now - 3 months symptom free! And this in a classroom that does candy rewards. (Don't get me started). He has had to become a bigger advocate for himself, (easier when they get older) and washes his...- 6 replies

Sorry to hear your pain. In my experience, eliminating grain and eating wild game and grass fed animals has been an important part of my healing. I wonder how our overall health would change if we more frequently ate from the land again - not the processed aisles of the mega box grocery stores?

Hi Brenda, Welcome - there are so many stories shared on this forum that shed light on our own circumstances and help guide us. Your son is very lucky to have a concerned mom looking out for his best interests. I thought I might add to the great advice given above. I wondered if perhaps your son is feeling as if things are beyond his control and overwhelming...

It's been a while since you posted - I do hope the pain has subsided. I wonder - my son gets a sharp pain too, when he has been glutened. Our naturalpath suggested that it might be caused by a congested liver - my understanding is that the glutening creates toxins that the liver can process. We treat with MSM capsules and a marshmallow root tea...

ARCHIVED This Happen To Anyone Else?
deb445 replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, you are not alone. I find that there is sometimes even an uncomfortable tension - these poor well meaning friends and family feel that they've gone out of their way to accomodate, and then I break the news that while I'm grateful, I can't eat it. I know my wonderful Mother in Law has been a little miffed at times, and I feel bad (I bring this one myself... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For Speeding Recovery
deb445 replied to Colleeney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
MSM is Methyl Sulfonyl Methane ~ it's a naturally ocurring sulphur compound, found in greens. It's supposed to be good for arthritis pain, but also "blocks" other pain, and helps with the healing process (muscles, etc). It's one of those "essential" pieces we are often deficient in. I get it in powder form, but it's also available in capsules. -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For Speeding Recovery
deb445 replied to Colleeney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just last week Son got glutened accidentally (...again) and while I usually reach for the colloidal silver and marshmallow tea, this time I also gave him some MSM. He recovered in 24 hours - when it usually takes 3 - 5 days. And, his symptoms were much less intense. Could be a coincidence - but, will definately try again to see if we get similar results next... -
I used to think that I was "fine" with corn....but I have since cut it out (along with other grains, along the way) and weird symptoms and reactions started to disappear. If you're interested, there are lots of blogs that share Paleo recipes (grain free - so, corn free, along with other sources of gluten), and this may help. My youngest used to get inflammation...

ARCHIVED Bad Constipation Help
deb445 replied to celiacsoprano's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you're still looking for ideas to sift through, a combination of both Malva and Marshmallow root tea has been effective, along with MSM in this house/family. ~Hope you find relief soon. -
ARCHIVED Celiac With A Fever Part Of Autoimmune Response?
deb445 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting...my oldest son responds to gluten with a fever (amongst other symptoms). It's been suggested by his Naturalpath, that his liver becomes overloaded with toxins (due to the gluten/gluten response) and this results in congested liver and fever. The fever used to last 5 days, with extreme fatigue ( wouldn't/couldn't walk for 3 - even with Tylenol... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice?
deb445 replied to adambryant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I cut out rice too (about a month ago) - I suspect that it was the driving force behind the "after lunch" fatigue that I thought I'd left behind. Cauliflower (pulverized by my potato masher) is a decent substitute. My husband actually said he kind of liked it. I was all for going grainfree, but resisted taking out rice and sorghum for a while. Equipped with... -

ARCHIVED Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
deb445 replied to deb445's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you all! So, I ran around this weekend (Michael's, Bulk Barn, Walmart, The Super Store), but could not source ABC cookie cutters. I did pick up a couple of buckets of ABC foam stickers, and sent one into school with a note saying I couldn't find cutters - but not brave enough yet to say I'll be keeping him at home on this day. I still hope to source... -
I'm a little late to reply, so I don't know if this is useful information or not.......... My son used to get this rash, head to toe, and start bleeding. We were given a prescription for a very expensive cortisone cream, but what we found effective (before going gluten-free and df) was a homeopathic ointment called Arnica ointment. As a baby, he would...

ARCHIVED Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
deb445 replied to deb445's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you ladies! I agree, Janet, that this would be a terribly messy task. And how do you monitor safety of a celiac kid with 20-something 3 and 4 years olds milling about with cookie dough on their hands? I'm a basket case just thinking about it. I'm going to check out Michael's, though I'm not sure if I'm going to send him to school that day ( I agree... -
You mentioned: "Though there's something I can't get over right now, is that I can't eat more than 300g of food without getting a few months pregnant bloated (much like when I ate stuff with gluten) and uncomfortable for loong hours." First of all, I'm sorry to hear your dis-ease. Second, are you saying that you are gluten free, and still developing...

ARCHIVED Any Other Vegans With Celiac Out There?
deb445 replied to Cattknap's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My oldest son is *mostly vegan and grain-free. He is 5 years old, and never liked or consumed meat, even as a baby. Refused eggs. And reacted to dairy. I would sneak eggs into my baking, and used local organic honey for sweeteners. Finally, after years of frustration, I decided I would support him by joining him. Last year, I read the China Study, in an attempt...- 15 replies

Popcorn used to be my favourite staple. Then, afer being wheat free for a few years, I started to become aware of illness that occurred after ingesting my favourite snack - free from dairy, and organic and non gmo even. Eventually, I suffered, simultaneously from an ear infection, chest infection, sinus infection and backpain. I suffered for weeks. Then...

ARCHIVED Is Food Aggression, Binging Associated With Celiac?
deb445 replied to megsybeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This does sound familiar. And now my son (5 yrs.) seems to know what will trigger an episode. 3 years in, and he knows when he has the crummies. Talk about being aware, and self regulating. Going gluten free, and now grain free has truly been enlightening. -
ARCHIVED Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
deb445 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So, my youngest (grain sensitive celiac -no dairy) is in JK this year. His teacher (very lovely) asked me today for ideas for an upcoming project she is planning: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees made from celery, cheeze whiz (people still eat this stuff-shocking) and Alpha-Bit cereal. She wanted to know what I could provide as an alternative. Ha! Lovely thought...
