Hi Cathy,. I remember watching a TV show, I think it was Anthony Bourdain or that other guy. Anyway, I can't remember what city it was (Aisa) and the populus swore that by drinking Aloe Vera everyday it would manage all types of ailments. This stuff was fresh and very thick and it tasted awful. Otherwise I don't know anything else about it. I...

Taking the bra off, YES, OUCH. I tell my hubs "step away from the boobs" lol. I more often times than not sleep in my bra. Colleen

ARCHIVED Types Of Celiac Constipation
GF Lover replied to UK2004's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Constipation refers to the length of time between Bowel Movements. Since you mentioned you developed a fissure, you may have a very tight sphincter. This can be caused from anxiety, stress, hemorrhoids or in some cases might be from a medical issue. Note: This is the same for the general population, not just Celiacs. Colleen -
I've had cycles of breast pain for many years. I have also had a hysterectomy but have my ovaries. It seems very cyclical to me. Recently I haven't had the tenderness at all but I am going into menopause so maybe it has to do with the ovaries. Spooky It's not connected to food in any case. Could be that my ovaries caused it or could just be my wacky...

ARCHIVED Overdoing It
GF Lover replied to Celiacandme's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Karen. Being sick makes one very fatigued and wipes out your stamina. Your body is so busy using energy to heal that there doesn't seem to be much left over. You must make time for small rests throughout the day and eat many smaller meals so the body has a constant supply of energy. And as always, drink lots of water. Lupus will keep you... -
ARCHIVED First Set Back
GF Lover replied to Wi11ow's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Willow. It seems to be more common than not that soy will bother people, celiac or not. Also, have you considered that dairy is bothering you? Many celiacs have to cut dairy out for some time until their intestines heal up. Most will be able to have some amount of dairy after that. Lactose intolerance is very common, again, whether celiac or not... -
ARCHIVED Becoming More Sensitive Over Time?
GF Lover replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get migraines and fever whenever my immune system goes nuts. If I get hit with gluten then I have immediate cramping before I finish the meal which tells me the difference. Colleen -
ARCHIVED It Is A Huge Deal! It Is Not A Big Deal? (My Plan)
GF Lover replied to afitgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds great. Just remember: No croutons on the salad (don't pick them off if they forgot) and request your baked potato UN-cut (you don't know where the knife has been). Lastly, always let them know that you have a Medical Diet (they should write that on the order) and cannot have wheat, barley and rye so the Kitchen knows to be careful of contamination... -
Hi Room4 and Welcome to the Forum. You replied to a thread that is 6 years old and most of the members are not active anymore. Why don't you start a new topic on Rye Bread. I bet you will get a lot of feedback. Colleen

ARCHIVED Digestive/urinary Problems
GF Lover replied to Francis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Francis and Welcome to the Forum. I just wanted to comment on urine color. It would be very UNusual for it to be colorless. Many things will affect the color of urine. You will also find that the more water you drink the lighter in color it will be. Foods will also affect the color of urine. Have you ever eaten asparagus? Yes, it turns a light... -
Please explain who the "Professions" are. If you read some research you will learn that the body NEEDS some sugar to function properly. Colleen

After I was diagnosed I told my family members when I saw them next which for me is also usually a holiday or some such thing as we all do not live in the same city. They were actually happy for me to finally have an answer. They had witnessed my deterioration over the many years and did not question it. When we do get together and it involves food they...

ARCHIVED Minimisation By Family/friends.
GF Lover replied to Chrissie32's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think I have an issue with that. My family and close friends saw my declining health and building disabilities for many years. The change they have seen since going gluten free is plenty for them to see that it is a "real" health concern for me and don't question it or belittle it....thankfully. Otherwise I don't discuss it with casual friends... -
ARCHIVED Shortness Of Breath
GF Lover replied to sidelined's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sidelined. I have the same thing with me. The feeling that I'm always trying to get a deep breath is maddening which leads to the shortness of breath feeling. I know I am getting enough oxygen because my blood oxygen levels are always high nineties. I also find that breathing thru the mouth or nose is the same for the shortness of breath feeling... -
In my experience, When my immune system goes nuts my arthritic joints will flare (especially that coffee cup finger). For me that means anything that surpresses the immune system: a cold virus, gluten, infection, allergies etc. will start a cascading effect of AI issues. With me, my immune system is not very strong because of cancer and removed lymph nodes...

ARCHIVED I Just Need To Vent.... I'm Apologize In Advance..
GF Lover replied to ezgoindude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When he says "He's allergic to food", just say....and you're allergic to Intelligence. Learn how to play the "Smack Down" game if people take jabs at you. They will get the point quickly that way. Good Luck Colleen -
Yikes! Now that is "Extreme". Colleen

Hi FruitE, Like Dr. Weil's site, most of what I read when researching the subject is opinion and the ol' "research shows" line without providing sources for the information. In the time I spent looking I could not find any peer reviewed studies or legit research on the good/bad effects of consumption of sugar. All that I read was about how over consumption...

Hi FruitE, Do you have research information on sugar and inflammation/immune system or is this your personal opinion? Colleen

ARCHIVED Letter From Dentist To Dental Patient With Ai Suspicions What Should It Say?
GF Lover replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Doctors
Dee, I really doubt that a Dentist would give an "alarmist" form letter to a patient. Suggesting an AI to a patient is completely different than suggesting a rather "uncommon" disease. Of course, this is my opinion only. Colleen -
ARCHIVED Pete's Coffee Question
GF Lover replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It is well known that coffee is a diuretic and a stimulant and with that may induce D and effects the general population, not just celiacs. Adding a creamer may counteract this effect in some people. I would also look on Pete's website to find out their production protocols ie: shared lines/facility. Colleen -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Nuts That Say G On Them
GF Lover replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Never assume something does not have gluten when it is packaged. I'm not saying your dried mangos had gluten added. It is just a rule to apply when negotiating a gluten free diet. Colleen -
ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take And Why?
GF Lover replied to sidelined's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take Probiotics, Digestive Enzyme when needed, Fish Oil, Quercetin, and a Multi-Vitamin. Unless a blood test tells you there is a deficiency you do not need to supplement additionally. Overuse of supplements can be dangerous and they are not subject to FDA Guidelines. There are studies that show there may be other substances and/or less or more of the...
