ARCHIVED Newbie To Coeliac Disease - From England. Please Help!
GF Lover replied to Laur2193's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lauren, honestly, there is nothing that I used to eat that I miss. My reactions to gluten were so severe that I actually became afraid to eat anything. When I started gluten free living I started with juicing. I got the nutrients I needed and gave my body some time to adjust. Then I started adding in fresh food and meats. A gluten incident at a restaurant... -

ARCHIVED My Haematologist Says I Should Not Change My Diet.
GF Lover replied to PaulM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That all sounds good Paul. The re-testing will let you know if your getting any hidden gluten. The stuff can be really sneaky. And if you aren't having hugh reactions every time you get some gluten then you would never know. Whenever a doc starts spewing numbers at me I (silently) scream in my head I AM NOT A NUMBER! Hi Lauren. Trust me when I say it gets much easier with time. When I first tried gluten free bread I freaked out. Then I just started with toast. Now I don't even remember what the old stuff even tastes like. It sounds like you have lots of good information and caring friends, that's half the battle. You will find all kinds of additional information... -
ARCHIVED Could Gluten Be The Problem
GF Lover replied to MChase's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi MChase. It is always possible that gluten may be an issue for you. You said your Dr. Mentioned Celiac. Are you going to be tested? So many times people go years with a bunch of diagnoses except the correct one. I would definitely pursue testing for celiac. You need to continue eating gluten for an accurate test. Hope you get some answers. ... -

ARCHIVED Having Trouble In Starting Gluten Free
GF Lover replied to strings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Complying with a gluten free diet can be challenging at first. A lot of people find the difficulty lies in not having a definate diagnosis. Once you do commit to the change in eating for life it gets much easier. If you are having trouble feeling full, you may want to eat many smaller meals. Rice and potatoes are very filling. Snacking throughout the... -
ARCHIVED Gene Test Results And Questions!
GF Lover replied to Stillnicelydone's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Karens reply to your first post pretty much says it all I don't see an HLA DQ2? I am at the International Celiac Disease Symposium right now. All the doctors say that, except for a very rare exception, you must have a HLA DQ2 or DQ8. DQ2 is the most common. They say there are other genes that contribute to the expression of the DQ2 or 8 but you do not... -
ARCHIVED What Tests I Do Have Done On 1 Year Old?
GF Lover replied to TessTess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The tests for children are the same as for adults. And, your right, if they are negative, you would have to keep testing throughout childhood. If, however, you choose to bring him up gluten free, the child would need to eat gluten before testing just like you have. Colleen -

ARCHIVED Tressemme
GF Lover replied to AmberRS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dermatitis Herpetiformis Intense itching. A burning sensation. Clusters of small blisters that persistently break out on the elbows, knees, buttocks, back, or scalp. These symptoms are the hallmarks of dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), a skin manifestation of celiac disease. DH affects 15 to 25 percent of people with celiac disease, and these people typically... -
ARCHIVED Tressemme
GF Lover replied to AmberRS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe message the posters who said it has gluten to tell you the ingredient or contact the manufacturer. Gluten in a shampoo would not cause the itching on your scalp. unless, of course you have an allergy to wheat. I would not use that particular shampoo regardless if it made your scalp itch. If, however you have DH I do not know how gluten would... -
ARCHIVED Dry Heaves? Nausea? Help!
GF Lover replied to emilykay405's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you ask your primary why they interpreted your test results as positive? If they are correct and your interpretation is wrong than it is not surprising that you are having issues. Also if you are actively refluxing than I would expect problems too. You may be gluten intolerant which would also cause these issues. If it were me I would try to eat more... -
ARCHIVED Safe Early Childhood Room..
GF Lover replied to africanqueen99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hmmm. What about rice? Potato flakes should be gluten free (verify the label) but seems kinda messy if moisture is around. Dried corn kernels? I take it no nuts... I'll keep thinking. There really is no need to disinfect surfaces, unless for sanity reasons. The one area of concern I see would be crumbs left by the other children then transfered to... -
ARCHIVED Any National Chains That Serve gluten-free Breakfast?
GF Lover replied to mateo2099's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Some chains also use pancake batter in omelet preparation to make them fluffier. It is written in the description so check carefully on all egg mixture breakfasts. Like cyclinglady, I don't eat breakfast out or any meals out if it can be avoided. CC issues are everywhere except in my own kitchen. Colleen -
ARCHIVED My Haematologist Says I Should Not Change My Diet.
GF Lover replied to PaulM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The procedure is Endoscopy. You would be awake. The procedure is relatively quick with no hospital stay. If you are already diagnosed with a blood test then you should have the choice. Sometimes they want to see to evaluate damage. Colleen -
