ARCHIVED Finger Joint Pain Flares
GF Lover replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Definately going to lay off the nightshades for a month and see what happens. Should be a long enough span in time to see what happens. Bellvie, Have taken omega-3's since before they became in fashion and believe they can be a good supplement. I'm glad they help your boyfriend's mom. Thanks for the suggestion. Colleen -
ARCHIVED Finger Joint Pain Flares
GF Lover replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmm... I've assumed that my flares somewhat correspond with the weather, we had a front come thru last night, and like clockwork my hands became useless. So I'm sitting here thinking...is it always with a weather change? Maybe not! I had potato chips and dip last night...first time in a while, was a treat. Barty, it wasn't the weather with you... -
Usually my finger joint pain is manageable but occasionally severely flares up. Typically I take an anti-inflammatory, a pain medication and use Voltarin gel (a topical pain ointment). I'm wondering if others may have tips or tricks they use to relieve the pain of flare ups. Thanks all. Colleen

Your laying in bed at night... Fifth trip to the bathroom... Ready to thump hubs for invading your side of bed... Drenched in sweat... What do you do?

ARCHIVED The Kindness Of Others...
GF Lover replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe give the teacher a hand out of guidelines to give to parents. By guidelines I mean an explanation of the disease and cross contamination issues involved with home made treats and to assert that you will prepare a comparable treat for you child. I would also thank the specific parent for their effort and explain that you are learning more about... -

Making shredded chicken sammies. This is a regional favorite and by regional, I mean Ohio. 1. Crock Pot 2. 2 cans of cream of chicken soup 3. Around 50-70 oz. Oz. canned chick's. 4. Some bread crumbs or crackers Optional, onions or whatever floats yer boat. Spoon on buns or slop on taters like I do Cook for at least 2 hours. Consistency... -
ARCHIVED Hemorrhoids - When To Worry?
GF Lover replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok Girls, killing me with the "sweet talk". I proclaim to be the resident expert on hemorrhoids. My hems came on in my teens. I blame sitting on concrete as I was a swimmer. Nevertheless they stayed with me my entire life in some shape or form. Two years ago I hit "my limit". I at that point they had progressed to 5 permanent grapes and numerous... -
The thing is Irish, it's one lone mushroom, in a garden of full sun. That info is wonderful Irish. Thank you. Do you cut a chive before the flower comes out or after? Colleen

Okay gang. I have had great luck getting my herb garden going. They are healthy and I suspect I can begin using them. Questions. When is it safe to cut leaves off and where to cut? How do I dry them? How best to use them, what type of food dishes? When should I use dry vs. Fresh? I am a complete novice when it comes to cooking with herbs...

ARCHIVED Mushroom (Neroli) Memorial Thread
GF Lover replied to Scott Adams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am shocked. I've only known her for a year but she made a great impression on me and touched another's life. To the Admin, Moderators, and her close friends and family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. And praying for your strength. -
Same thing here. They found it before cancer diagnosis. Since I went through the immunotherapy my numbers have been all over and now aside from the original (calcified) nodule, I've developed two new ones, not calcified. It's been hard trying to get my immune system to stop attacking me. Hopefully getting the thyroid under control again will do the trick...

ARCHIVED Developed Dairy Intolerance?
GF Lover replied to EmiPark210's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I developed a dairy intolerance pretty quickly when I went gluten-free. Lasted a few months I think until I stabled out some. I eventually added back dairy although I still limit myself. -

GfinDC, so funny you mentioned Doctors. We went to the golf coarse this morning. Hubs and his golfing buddy were golfing while I drove around enjoying the beautiful scenery. We have new baby goslings on the coarse and they are just fuzzy little things. I took some pics when the parents weren't hissing at me lol. Oh, back to my point. Hubs golfing buddy...

I cant handle movie theatres (too many people in a cramped place) so I've never seen a premiere. I usually catch the new releases when they become the movie of the week. I have to STRENUOUSLY say, STAR TREK RULES. Colleen

ARCHIVED I Want To Move Back
GF Lover replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Barty, go straight to the bathtub with your beverage of choice. Light a candle, dim the lights and just float. Tomorrow will be a new day. They are doing that fracking here in northern ohio. Not far from the wonderful great Lakes water supply. Makes me sad. They get little earthquakes all the time. Have you considered a debit card through your... -
IMHO, one persons statement of their opinions is another's "snarky" comment. Our personal perspectives can sometimes skew the intended meaning of comments. I am also of the opinion that "self proclaimed" snarckies are a great thing! Let's all remember that we are talking to boxes of text and really have no idea who is at the other keyboard. ...

ARCHIVED Meat
GF Lover replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone up for grilled "germs" and "antibiotics" tonight. Open Original Shared Link NOT!!! My Oncologist mentioned bison to me as an alternative meat. I wonder how it's raised and prepared. I shall research it! Bartfull, I have been moving toward your paranoid world and that article got me much closer. Although I must say that my paranoia... -
ARCHIVED Natural Creams, Lotions And Oil For Skin Care
GF Lover posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I hate putting unnecessary toxins in or on my body. For my face I use pure coconut oil morning and night. I have extremely dry skin so it works for those skin types. You can also blend coconut oil, cocoa butter and olive oil and use that. I already use an organic toothpaste with no floride. We have filters in the kitchen at the sink and the ice cubes... -
