ARCHIVED Looking For gluten-free, Cf, Egg Free Cheese
mouse replied to TCA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
regular goat cheese has casein. I don't remember if it was Tarnelberry or Rachel that wrote that hard cheddar goat cheese was casein free. I am very allergic to dairy and I don't have a problem with the hard cheddar, but regular goat cheese sets me off. It was something that my health food store did not carry and so they special ordered it. -

ARCHIVED NestlÉ Toll House Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
mouse replied to fanny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you for telling me to leave them on the baking sheet. All I am doing is eating healthy and at my age I can use a little unhealthy. Just kidding. I have not baked from scratch since my diagnosis and am so looking forward to making these. If they don't turn out, I will bawl. -
ARCHIVED NestlÉ Toll House Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels

Thanks Jerseyangel. I did not think of Crisco. It says soy on it and that (at the moment) is one of my lesser allergies. I have avoided anything with soy for a long time, except when I go to PF Changs and that is probably why it has not gotten as bad as the corn. Until this happened, I never realized the things that have corn in them. Gluten free is... -

Will I am going to use the egg, but not the butter. I plan on using my marg. My corn allergy is thru the roof, but I was reading on another thread link here, that if you are allergic to the corn protein, then you can have the oil (my marg is made from corn oil). I am hoping I am allergic to the protein as I am allergic to the milk protein - casein. Boy... -

I just went to the store and bought potato starch. Is that the same as potato starch flour? I bought Bob's Red Mill as I did not want to drive all the way to the health food store. I want to make cookies tomorrow with the Toll House recipe. Thanks. -

ARCHIVED It's So Hard Sitting In A Restaurant Not Being Able To Eat
mouse replied to Green12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Because this diet has become sort of a fad, I have added an explantion to my server or in a new place to the manager. I say I cannot eat gluten and I am not on a fad diet, but for me, it is a serious medical diet. They really listen when I say that. Sometimes, I will get a server who asks if I am Celiac. I already have dead brain cells and I don't wish... -
ARCHIVED I Think Ian's Changed It's Nugget Recipe
mouse replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was just in my grocery store yesterday where I usually get my Ian's. Thank goodness I looked at the label as I noticed it did not say gluten-free on the front. On the ingred list it said wheat. So be very careful which Ian's you get. -
Go to a dentist and have him look for TMJ. I wear a mouth piece to bed at night and it keeps my jaw pain under control. I clence (sp) my teeth during my sleep and am not even aware that I am doing it. Some people grind their teeth in their sleep. It is worth a shot. Good luck.

ARCHIVED Questions About My Condition
mouse replied to SteveT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be sure to get your own toaster. The crumbs from regular bread in the family toaster can make you sick. I did not get one for a year as I thought the advice was overkill. It is not. My husband now uses one section of the counter for his sandwich makings and I another. Also be sure that no one double dips into jelly, marg, and any of the condiments. ... -

ARCHIVED How Do I Plan A Gluten Free Wedding?
mouse replied to Shira's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I myself would consider this a chance to show all the guests, that gluten-free cn be delicious. I have not entertained in this new home because of lack of energy. But, I have mapped out appetisers to desert of what I will serve. All will be gluten-free and no one will know the difference. Our gluten-free food is delicious and much more healthy then the... -
Welcome to the board. I learned more here then I did with my over 300 hours of internet research on Celiac.

If you are going the testing route, be sure that you keep ingesting gluten. Approx. the equivalent of 3 slices of bread a day. If you don't then the tests are scewed. You also need to make sure that she does the full panel instead of one single test. My doctor was from the 60's and did one test only. I was lucky it was positive. He now does the whole...

I am glad the operation went well and I hope this helps to clear up your health problems. HUGS -
I don't know the name of the exact tests I have had for allergies and intolerances. I have had pin prick tests since a very young child and they did change over the years. The last pin prick test showed that I was no longer reactive to trees and grass, but we had left the midwest 2 years prior, and I now live in the desert. Many people that move here become...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis - Blood Test But No Biopsy?
mouse replied to mama pie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed by blood test alone. I was too sick to have them do the bioipsy. I went gluten-free on the day of the blood test and following the doctor's orders immed. went gluten-free. I also have a problem with the thing going down my throat. Something to do with the meds. they use. The last time they did that to me was six years ago when I had a... -
ARCHIVED It's So Hard Sitting In A Restaurant Not Being Able To Eat
mouse replied to Green12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I eat out all the time. Today I had an out of state cousin visit for a few hours. I knew we could not go far for lunch like we would normally do. So, I called Famous Sam's yesterday and inquired if their Pastrami was gluten free (they are). They also told me that their french fries were in a dedicated frier. They usually use their special Sam salt on... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Around Mchenry, Illinois
mouse replied to lizisgf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just want to say Welcome to the forum. I used to live in Lake In The Hills, Il and went to McHenry often to do my target practice. I was not diagnosed when I lived there, but you might call NIMC and see if they know of a group. -
I have suffered for years with Fibro and every medication a Rheumy had tried - never worked. So, I basically gave up and thought that I would have to live with it. When I first went gluten-free, my pain decreased by about 80% and it stayed that way for a year and a half. Last August it started up again and just kept advancing so that I would wake up about...
