  1. Many congrats to you, Tom! Thanks for sharing your story, and I'm sure it will give others the lift they need. Happy that you are still around, too. (I joined right around the same time as yall....I was just slower to find this site....dx'ed in 2004!)
  2. Bev, I just wanted to offer my support to you. I'm happy that you seem to be in good hands. Please keep us updated on your app't tomorrow. They probably won't run the Igenex bloodwork tomorrow, bc it has to be fresh and sent out either M, T, or W. Crohn's/refractory/other GI issues are scary....but, either way, it is good to know. And, if you don...

    ARCHIVED Red Lobster

I would get something plain, with no seasonings, cooked in a clean dish, with no sauce.
  4. If it is sold in the US, any product MUST list wheat. So, in terms of "other spices"---it can NOT contain wheat unless it was listed. As mentioned above, McCormick clearly states that it will list any source of gluten in any of their products. If you read their labels, and it doesn't have any sort of wheat/rye/barley/malt/oats, then it is safe, and nothing...
  5. If you want the most accurate tests possible, you have to continue eating gluten. That is what our bodies are reacting to....take it away, and under normal circumstances, our bodies heal. We don't "look" like Celiacs anymore, but we still are. I'll be honest...there isn't a lot of point to doing a biopsy if you have been off gluten for an extended period...
  6. Yes to both...I personally know of people who have had positive bloodwork and negative biopsy, and 1 person who had negative bloodwork, but her case was so indicative of Celiac, that her dr (a celiac local expert in the region), did a thorough biopsy....and her biopsy was clearly positive.
  7. Incorrect...it could have barley, but wheat is now REQUIRED BY LAW, to be listed if it is in anything like "natural flavors" etc. If it is not listed, these flavors do not have WHEAT.
  8. no, not rice, BUBBLES!
  9. About 30% of the American population has one or both of the currently identified Celiac genes. JUST having the genes does NOT mean you have Celiac. But, bout 98% of diagnosed Celiacs have one or both of these genes. HLA DQ2 and HLA DQ8. I agree that its worth it in terms of "knowing" if it could be a possibility or not. I have DQ8 and my kids will...
  10. Andrea and Patti----I love your wedding pictures! I put mine up for fun too
  11. Thanks for clarifying about the milky way. That was one of my first "oops" and I can still remember it.
  12. Congratulations, Rachelville
  13. The relationship between Celiac and diabetes is probably the most well-known, maybe, except for the thyroid/Celiac connection. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-50107434334.dc do a search on pubmed for celiac and diabetes...you'll get a ton of info!
  14. agree with the above mentioned posters. you could have always had Celiac, but no symptoms (hence, "silent" Celiac) and then the symptoms kicked in. you could have NOT had Celiac, and it was triggered on at some point.
  15. Document everything. It will help your case (your discussion with your employer, etc.).
  16. Have his doctor run the full celiac blood panel. Open Original Shared Link www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu for more info even if negative, it would be worth it to try the diet, 100%.
  17. FYI...not sure if this one had been posted or not: Also---I'm not sure if this is completely off the wall or not, but could this be the reason why Dr. Fine thinks pepto bismol in high doses/long periods of time works?!!!!! Int Microbiol. 2001 Dec;4(4):209-15. Susceptibility of motile and cystic forms of Borrelia burgdorferi to ranitidine bismuth...
  18. Considering how sick she still is, I think it IS worth it. This way, he can check for other problems. Also, if he finds that the damage has healed, and her bloodwork is normal---then it is indicative that something else is going on if she is still that sick. I, personally, would want to know sooner, rather than later. He's not disappointed in her...he...
  19. If you have Crohn's on top of Celiac, you will probably get sick/have episodes, even if you are gluten free. Your episdoes may very well NOT be related to Celiac. The other thing---if you have only been gluten-free for 3-4 weeks, you probably haven't healed yet ... so you might be eating gluten free, but you aren't healed, and therefore, your body is...
  20. here is to a link for a search on celiac.com using "neurological" https://www.celiac.com/st_sresults.html here are a handful of journal abstracts about celiac and various neurological issues: Curr Gastroenterol Rep. 2006 Oct;8(5):383-9. Extraintestinal manifestations of celiac disease. Hernandez L, Green PH. Columbia University College of Physicians...
  21. I would PM Scott your suggestion. He is the one in charge.
  22. I just wanted to add that I love these pictures...i really, really do. Yall are SO CUTE!!!!!!! I laughed out loud over the "blow me" usage
  23. I think that might be your answer! Good point, Angie
  24. according to their website, the balsamic vinagrette dressing is gluten free. Open Original Shared Link Walter, I'm sorry to hear that you had a reaction. I'm not sure what it is that you could be reacting to...did you touch any unsafe food (pizza, etc?) Did you rill your chicken at home or did someone else do it? When you grilled, was it on a safe grill...
  25. Dr. Green and his associates at Columbia are the leaders in Celiac.
