ARCHIVED Your Opinion Please...
happygirl replied to silly-yak1979's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
sillyyak 1979: I highly recommend reading Dr. Peter Green's book (see title in my signature). You can order it off amazon. He is a leading expert in Celiac and has a chapter on fertility and pregnancy. It will be your best reference, probably more so than your doctor. I like to be educated and read for myself...and as a first time mom-to-be, I'm sure... -

happygirl replied to Lyza Jay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
from what i read on your most recent posting of your results, yes they make sense. your first one (eating gluten, i assume) .... you had some indications of Celiac. Now, I can't explain why we don't all test positive on all...or why some people are positive on some and not on the others, etc. your second one (not eating gluten)....you numbers decreased... -

ARCHIVED What Am I Reacting To?!
happygirl replied to laurelfla's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
chick fil a is supposed to use "dedicated" fryers (fryers that are only for their fries, and not the chicken). many restaurants are supposed to do that. Many times they do. But, many of us have gotten sick from them....so, obviously it is not always the case. -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
happygirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The main reason that some people have problems with Dr. Green's book is that he (and almost all other Celiac experts, including Dr. Fasano) pushes the biopsy as the gold standard for dx'ing Celiac....and in the traditional medical community, it is. His book doesn't cover very well the implications of gluten intolerance etc (he briefly covers it). So, for... -

Portions of an email I received from a lady in the Tuscon Eosinophilic support group---this should be helpful to anyone who is going to be tested: Also so sorry to hear about your struggles. They sound very familiar. As with many disorders.... symptoms can crossover. However ..if you suspect that you might have an Eosinophilic Disorder there are questiosn... -
Congratulations! What a wonderful blessing! breast feeding is correlated with lower risks of celiac, but it is a correlational, not causal, relationship, nor are they long term studies (i.e., how do you account for celiacs who develop later on?) https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-31106044327.fb https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p...

So there are a lot of things on my mind about all this and I am going to try to post random ones that I think of You can have one area affected or multiple. The ones involving the stomach can also cause reflux problems. There is also something called hypereosinophilia, as well as Churg-Strauss (having to do with vasculitis). jen-interesting... -

All this lyme stuff is so fascinating. I feel like Andrea said, I can barely keep up and I'm slow some days, esp lately! Do you lyme ladies dream in green? brief overview of my procedure: went to baltimore tuesday and stayed in a hotel, drank the nasty stuff (4 liters, no joke, I wanted to die). Spent most of the hours of 8-11 in the bathroom.... -

ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
happygirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Linda, I believe what you were told was probably correct .... but was told to you in the scientific terms! General population says DQ2/8, you were told alleles DQA1*05 and DQB1*02 and DQB1*0302 and DQA1*03. I am not a biology person, but it seems that we are talking about the same thing. Nice when that works out that way this gene thing fascinates... -

happygirl replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i think it is an entirely personal decision, and you have to do what you are comfortable with. thats not to say next year or the year after won't be different, but, for now, if it works for you, do it. I, like JenVan, just go with my own food. I am going to dh's uncle/aunts with my own food, and just last weekend, I was the matron of honor in an out... -

ok, i don't understand your doctor at all, to be honest. you have high levels of eosinophil, your symptoms are at the least, suggestive of it, and yet he doesn't want to do anything it? Open Original Shared Link i personally wouldn't wait until february, but that is just me. i am shocked that your doctor told you this----it is INCORRECT.... -

ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
happygirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
ibesurfn: "My understanding and experience is that genetics aren't very reliable in predicting your succeptibility to Celiac disease. I'm the only one in my family to have it." that is true: they don't predict your susceptibility to have it, per se. However, 95% or so of Celiacs do have one or both of the genes, (this is not including gluten intolerance... -

ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
happygirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Linda: (from my post above, which is taken from Dr. Green's book): Dr. Green writes about the genetics of Celiac (not gluten intolerance): "HLA DQ2 and DQ8 are nicknames for genes. They are actually molecules on cells that are encoded by specific alleles of genes. HLA-DQ2 (encoded by alleles DQA1*05 and DQB1*02) and DQ8 (encoded by DQB1*0302 and DQA1*03... -
