Good for you----it sure does feel better, doesn't it? we are happy to have you here and happy that you are doing better. I hope it continues Laura
  4. hmmm...I can help you out some with gluten free, but not sure about dairy free. since I don't know the full extent of your restrictions, I'll just post what I know for DC, which is mostly gluten free: here is your best resource: from the DC area celiac group: Open Original Shared Link a local restaurant (seven locations in the dc metro area): Open...
  5. Just wanted to add my welcome and to encourage you to keep asking questions...there is so much knowledge on this board! I hope that your health continues to improve!
  6. julie, they have their own gluten free products (made in a gluten free facility) back near the bakery. I love their pizza crusts...I have yet to find anything else that is that good. check out their info: Open Original Shared Link enjoy!
  7. I have HLA-DQB1*0302 (which is commonly referred to as HLA-DQ8, one of the Celiac genes) here is an interesting link about DQ8: Open Original Shared Link and HLA-DQB1*0501 (which I cant quite figure out) Dr. Green writes about the genetics of Celiac (not gluten intolerance): "HLA DQ2 and DQ8 are nicknames for genes. They are actually molecules...
  8. bklyn, I just saw your post. I am sorry that bc/bs denied you coverage. I take it you are looking for health insurance that is not provided through your employer (if you are employed). I wonder if anyone else on here has had any experiences with non-employer sponsored health care plans.... Good luck!
  9. thanks girl I hugged him on Friday morning---my mom and I got such a kick out of finally being able to call him a VETERAN! and a salute to your dad in his service, as well. xoxo With the holidays coming up, it makes me appreciate what our soldiers, sailors, and airmen are sacrificing each and every day.
  10. from boyfriend, before yall come: "Mom, I'm excited for you to meet Girlfriend's Name. She is great and I think you will like her. I just wanted to let you know that she has some dietary restrictions and she won't be able to eat everything that you serve. She has Celiac Disease, which is an autoimmune disorder. She gets sick if she eats even the tiniest...
  11. Happy Veteran's Day to any board members who have served or currently serve, and their family members. I am the proud daughter of a recently retired naval officer (38 years of service) and the sister to a current naval officer (5 years of service). I am forever indebted to theirs, and others, service.
  12. gandm, thank you for your concern, but my issues (it is a long story) are much more detailed than just some foods. I react to almost all. I am being tested for eosinophilic disorders which are related to multiple food intolerances and allergies. I cannot tolerate any legumes/beans, eggs, nuts, and only some veggies/fruits. Thank you for thinking of me...
  13. Kris, I completely and utterly understand. I am similar to you, and I am thinking that if this is what I have, I might have had it back to my celiac/gluten intolerance days. EGIDs can manifest itself in one food allergy/intolerance, many, or all foods...so I wonder if mine "started" with just gluten. Keep reading and see what you think...we'll...

    ARCHIVED Help!

Spunky: Celiacs rule #1 --- the most important one: "When in doubt, go without." (Repeat to self) If you do not know 100% what is in it (and I'm not talking "broth"-I'm talking knowing the brand, the variety, the ingredients, etc), you DO not eat it. Non-negotiable. Even if the ingredients are safe, if you don't know how it was prepared (used utensils...
  15. Last I checked, they were. Make sure to read ingredients (I know you know this! ) but that is your only way to know if it is safe
  16. great idea---very thoughtful
  17. Hey Kris, No, that makes perfect sense. I know this is such a frustrating, strange world. Just to let you know, even though you have had the endo, if they are wanting to dx you with it, the 100% only way to diagnose it is through biopsies of all four places. I have had these procedures numerous times, but they were never looking for it, never tested...
  18. DNA testing does not prove that you have Celiac though. The two genes associated with Celiac (HLA-DQ2 and DQ8) are very common in the population. About 40% of the population has one or both of the genes and I think its something like 95% of Celiacs has one or both. So, just having the gene doesn't mean you have it. On the converse, NOT having one of the...
  19. allison, very few foods are "safe" when you just ask if they are "overall" ok. It will depend on the brand, flavor, etc. Your #1 best bet to survive as a Celiac is to know which ingredients to look for. there are some great lists on celiac.com that can help if you need the basics. Or, we are here to help also. When you find a safe one (and there...
  20. hey there, just a question-you say you are being tested for eos. Through what means are they testing you for it? Fill me in more when you have a chance---hope you are having a great night. Laura
  21. Dessa, I have severely limited my lectins also. Corn is in everything. Make sure you check out cornallergen.com...hope it helps some. And, no, no eating out. Laura
  22. I am currently being tested for it. it can also occurs in the stomach, small intestine, and/or colon. the only way to correctly diagnose it is to have an endo and colonoscopy with multiple biopsies. the problem is, since it is food related, part of the treatment is to take food out-then you heal (that is how it is supposed to work, but doesn't always, plus...
