ARCHIVED Update On Hubby
happygirl replied to probonohoe's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Crystal, Your news is so exciting!! This diet, although hard at times, is such a blessing. I am sure you are just thrilled at the progress he is making. He is lucky to have such a supportive and caring spouse. Make sure you stay a part of the board--this and celiac.com's lists are the best way to keep updated on food products, recipes, and lists of... -
ARCHIVED Feeling "hungover" Everyday!
happygirl replied to kristend's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Couple things that I would address: 1. Have you had the bloodwork re-done to see how well your antibody levels have gone down? If they are still high, that could be part of your problem. Make sure you have the full blood panel run---you should call your doctor and request this. 2. I'm sorry to ask this, and don't mean to be rude, but how truly gluten... -
ARCHIVED My Dog Is A Major Faker
happygirl replied to theprincess's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is too funny! Thanks for posting...with all our issues, it is always nice to read non-Celiac things that make us chuckle! We don't have children yet (age 25), nor do we have dogs yet (just moved to a house--so maybe one day!), but we do have cats (and I'm not even a cat person)----and they are my babies, too! They really dobecome part of your family... -
ARCHIVED Igg, Ttg Normal After Going gluten-free? Huh?
happygirl replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wanted to add---Tom made a good point. The blood tests measure the production of antibodies, which is how the medical community operationalizes the reaction to gluten. The goal is to stop the eaction, which would decrease the antibodies. We still have Celiac, but we are not setting off the autoimmune reaction, which is the goal! -
Have you had the bloodwork recently (the FULL Celiac panel) to see if you are still producing antibodies? Also, what types of things are you eating? We can easily help you go 100% gluten free!!!!!!! Are you careful about cross contamination? You might want to decrease your eating out to ensure that you really are gluten free. If you are 100% gluten...

ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayonnaise
happygirl replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hellman's Mayo is safe. What they (the gluten guard) is probably referring to is "Disodium Wheatgermamido Peg-2 Sulfosuccinate" not just disodium. That was listed on celiac.com's list of forbidden ingredients. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-31106385914.04 Calcium disodium is safe: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-311... -
ARCHIVED Igg, Ttg Normal After Going gluten-free? Huh?
happygirl replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey girl, Ok heres the deal. What is happening to you is good news and is what is supposed to happen! When you are a Celiac and are ingesting gluten, your numbers are elevated. They are elevated because you are ingesting the trigger (gluten) and your body increases the antibodies, as a result of an autoimmune response that occurs in Celiacs WHEN THEY... -
Josh, I just moved to Fairfax. I am having issues beyond Celiac at this point, but it is good to know that you have had a seemingly great experience with Dr. Fasano. I have heard wonderful things about him. I heard the head of Alba Therapeutics (the drug company that was started because of Dr. Fasano's research) speak at a support group in Richmond this...

let's see...two boxes of donuts for breakfast, pizza, wings, and soda for lunch, and peanuts and candy for snacks. I cannot have one ounce of any of those---it sucks. But, the most important thing for me is that I am still able to live my life healthily. My co-workers (and I am brand new!) see this and appreciate it. I'm still there and social, and just...

ARCHIVED Forgot About The Tupperware
happygirl replied to Gamecreature's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
game creature: 2 main points 1. yes, it can most certainly be the tupperware. i have "safe" ones in my house. 2. since you are only 3weeks gluten free, you almost certainly have not healed fully yet. so, even though the ingredients may be gluten free, your body might still be having trouble with certain foods, sometimes, because it is not functioning... -

ARCHIVED Looking For Some Direction On Advocacy
happygirl replied to Robina's topic in Publications & Publicity
game creature, although it hasn't come to fruition yet, it is in the works, as part of the 2006 FDA food labeling law. by 2008 there will be guidelines set up (I believe that is the goal). there is so much conflicting info (what makes something gluten free? how many ppms is safe? what about cross contamination? testing?) so that is why the slow process... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Thinks It Might Be Eosinophillic Esophagitis, Not Celiac
happygirl replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i highly recommend the kidswithfoodallergies website. there are a lot of families on there with children who have the disorder that your child might have. they really seem to know their stuff. good luck---i'll keep your family in my prayers -
ARCHIVED Down To 97 Lbs.what Is The Name Of Generic Imodium That Can Be Used?
happygirl replied to Anne AMP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anne, Check out my signature. It gives the most updated overview. Don't do soy or canola (they are lectins!). I don't know about olive oil...it was just easier for me not to try. I broil all my meat, (or, sometimes grill on foil over the flame), and for shrimp I will boil it. Have you read up about corn derivatives? They are in everything and might... -
ARCHIVED Down To 97 Lbs.what Is The Name Of Generic Imodium That Can Be Used?
happygirl replied to Anne AMP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anne, I am sorry to hear you are struggling so much. I am very similar to you--I am at 100 lbs right now and have removed most (if not all) lectins from my diet....this is all recent to me (Celiac has been for 2 years, the other stuff is more recent). Make sure you are rinsing/scrubbing everything you are eating as corn (as a derivative) can be used to... -

tarnalberry, that is so funny about our experiences with the blankets! your post made me smile. I'm a big sap and sentimental, so the blanket was perfect for us--but, I can certainly see how it isn't for everyone!!!! Just goes to show how different we all are . hope you are having a great night--- Laura -

Fiddle Faddle- I know you posted about this awhile back, but I wanted to address it: "I had been told that my IgG will always be elevated, even after being gluten-free for extended periods--but it shouldn't be through the roof like when you're eating gluten. I was also told that my thyroid antibodies will always be elevated, even though my Hashimoto's...
