ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Before Biopsy
happygirl replied to my3kids's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(I merged the two threads together since they were identical) There is a lot of differing opinions on the "personal care" products. If it is anything that you could ingest by chance, some feel its worth it to keep it gluten free. Some people only use gluten-free products. Others don't use gluten-free products. Its a personal decision, but for some... -

Two main possibilities: 1. You are new to the diet, so you probably aren't fully healed. Even when eating gluten-free foods, your body may still just be having "issues" because you aren't 100% healthy. It may take a little while for your body to heal and be able to process foods normally. 2. You were cross contaminated at the restaurant. It may have...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Before Biopsy
happygirl replied to my3kids's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may want to call the ped GI and tell his nurse your concerns. You do not want to go gluten free before the biopsy. See if they can push your appointment up. It mainly depends on if you want to proceed with the biopsy (which can look for things other than Celiac). -

The nutritionist from the Celiac Center at the University of Maryland spoke last year and said that a gluten free diet of only one week begins to affect the biopsy in some people. So yes, you could get a false negative. If its a positive, its definitely a positive. But if its a negative, you won't know if its a true negative.

Geoff, Good luck with your biopsy. Before the procedure, discuss with your GI that you want 'multiple biopsies in multiple locations' taken. Celiac Disease damage can be patchy, so it can be missed by taking one biopsy. Taking more biopsies/multiple places increases the chances of an accurate biopsy. Your blood tests are certainly indicative of Celiac... -
