  1. What were the tests that were run, the results, and the reference range?
  2. If a spice is just one spice, say, thyme or basil, etc., then nothing else is allowed to be in it. So yes, it would be gluten free. For spices that are comprised of a few things, the ingredients are required to be listed. McCormick's is a company that will list all gluten and not hide it.
  3. If you are looking to have Celiac tests done, they include AGA IgA AGA IgG tTG IgA EMA IgA total IgA.
  4. Were you diagnosed with Celiac, and if so, how?
  5. Antibodies may still show up. If its positive, then its definitely positive. If its negative, then no, it doesn't mean a true negative. One of the nutritionists at a leading Celiac center said that there are when a Celiac starts the diet, changes to the damage in the intestine caused by Celiac start to happen within a week. The damage in the intestine...

Scott--- Definitely like the muted green. Makes it much easier to read-I'll admit, I was a bit concerned . We appreciate all you do to keep this board up and running. Thanks for this wonderful forum.
  9. According to Dr. Green, this is a common experience. www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu "Q: I feel hungry all the time. Is that normal? Yes, it is very common. Your body is making up for the time it wasn't fully absorbing foods. Hunger levels tend to normalize within the first months after eliminating gluten and beginning a well balanced diet of...
  10. I spoke with a clinical trials coordinator at one of the sites for this drug. It is a requirement to have a biopsy. They are still recruiting. She was absolutely wonderful, and I told her thank you for all the work they are doing.
  11. HLA Class II = major HLA antigens are essential elements in immune function: Different classes have different functions Class I antigens (A, B & C) - Present peptides from inside the cell (including viral peptides if present) Class II antigens (DR, DP, & DQ) - Present phagocytosed antigens from outside of the cell to T-lymphocytes Locus...
  12. Happy Birthday, Tiffany! Thanks for all you do for this board!
  13. Keep in mind that many distilled vinegars/alcohols are not made from wheat (etc) in the first place.
  14. SEROLOGICAL TESTING (Open Original Shared Link)
  15. From Dr. Fasano's website (www.celiaccenter.org) How accurate are the celiac blood tests? The current diagnostic tests for celiac disease are very accurate, particularly when tTG and anti-endomysial antibodies are elevated. The isolated presence of anti-gliadin antibodies does not necessarily imply that the subject is affected by celiac disease, with the...
  16. Open Original Shared Link This site contains a list of companies that will clearly disclose any gluten sources on the label. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley, malt, or oats on the labels of these companies, then it is not there, and you don't have to worry about it being "hidden." All companies are required to list wheat, per the 2006 Food Allergen...
  17. See the list at the bottom of this page: Open Original Shared Link It includes companies that don't "hide" gluten. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley, malt, or oats on these labels, then it is safe to eat. If it has one of the offenders listed, it isn't safe to eat. Takes the guesswork out of label reading. Hopefully this will help some.
  18. If your total IgA (Immunoglobin A) was low, it would mean that the rest of your IgA tests could be false negatives. Basically, if you had a too low IgA, it means you aren't producing it, so when they do the other IgA tests, it could be false negatives (i.e., you have it, but aren't producing the antibodies to show you have it). From the same page as above...
  19. He did one of the two most sensitive ones, the tTG, the total IgA (which, if low, would tell you if your negatives were potentially false negatives), and the AGA IgA and IgG. He did four out of the five. The only one that wasn't run was the EMA IgA. From www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu "Lack of concordance of endomysial antibody and anti-tTG...
  20. GM is a company that has stated that they clearly disclose any gluten ingredients. If wheat, rye, barley, malt, or oats isn't listed, then its ok. Open Original Shared Link
  21. Peter, the board is very lucky to have you as part of the group!
  22. Yes, gluten allergy or gluten intolerance can cause many of the same symptoms.
  23. CM: You are welcome. When you go to the doctor, request to get a copy of the bloodwork run. There are five tests that make up the full panel. Some positives are more likely to be Celiac than others. I would certainly ask your doctor the questions you posed here, and ask about the conflicting information. Regardless of if its Celiac or non-Celiac...
