ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Enterolab?
happygirl replied to jessiU's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could have something going on other than a gluten problem, so it may be helpful to be evaluated for other things. If you have been gluten free, and truly have Celiac, your biopsy may not be positive. But, to me, the purpose of the endo/colonoscopy will be to look for other things besides Celiac. Are you 100% gluten free? -
ARCHIVED Please Read: Can Someone Help?
happygirl replied to Mern27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Mern, I'm sure others will pop in with more ideas, but I wanted to welcome you to the board. Yes, wheat allergy testing is different than Celiac. Request that your doctor run the full Celiac blood panel, or find a doctor that will. The panel includes: (from Open Original Shared Link Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial... -

However, beans and potatoes are gluten free---so don't worry about that. Not everyone has a problem with lectins.

happygirl replied to Idiote Savante Goddess's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also ask if he ran the FULL celiac panel, or just some of the tests. AGA IgA AGA IgG tTG IgA EMA IgA Total IgA. -
The process that they use removes the gluten protein. After this information came out, the Celiac groups had independent (i.e., non-McD's) testing done on the fries, and they were gluten free. Always check to make sure that they truly do use a dedicated fryer.

ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Thanksgiving Recipes
happygirl replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
BB---I actually thought of you about two weeks ago when I was eating the cheesecake myself. I'm happy you enjoy it. My mom is a sweetheart and made it for me....it is SO delicious! BTW, we've started adding a bit more pumpkin for a stronger taste. Last batch one had a crust (ginger snap cookie, like yours) and the other was crustless. Delicious! -
ARCHIVED These Ingredients Are So Hard To Understand
happygirl replied to Aj63's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Using that list makes a world of difference!!! Always turn the product over and look on the back label---you'll often find that a brand is owned by one of the companies that Peter listed. Makes food label reading SOOO much easier---and its trustworthy. -
ARCHIVED Which Tests Should Be Done?
happygirl replied to peaches102984's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The "official" way to diagnose is through bloodtest and biopsy, and then the response to the diet. Enterolab themselves say that they don't diagnose Celiac, but non-Celiac gluten intolerance. The problem with enterolab, at this point, is that his results haven't been duplicated by others, and his methods are not published. (All this being said... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Test Results For
happygirl replied to ptkds's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To my knowledge, there isn't a blood test for fibromyalgia...it is dx'ed after ruling out other things (like lupus, ra, ms, etc) and a physical exam, tender points, etc. It depends on who does the bloodwork...do they use an outside lab (like LabCorp, Quest, etc.) or if they do it themselves. Are they calling you with results (and if so, do they only... -
ARCHIVED Any Other Alcoholic Celiacs Out There?
happygirl replied to Shotzy1313's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Taken from a highly respected Celiac center: Open Original Shared Link Q: Is it ok if I ingest some gluten if I do not experience any symptoms? No. The majority of patients with celiac disease experience no symptoms when they ingest gluten, either intentionally or unintentionally. This led to the concept that patients, especially children may grow out... -
ARCHIVED Which Tests Should Be Done?
happygirl replied to peaches102984's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab can't diagnose Celiac, though. The traditional bloodwork, which since you have insurance through your job, will likely be covered: (taken from Columbia University's Celiac Disease Center: Open Original Shared Link Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies... -

Tiffany, I'm happy that you have a good doctor and am moving forward, but I am certainly sorry that your body is in the state that it is in....no fun for you. I'm not sue if you've tried accupuncture, but many people with chronic pain, including fibro or fibro symptoms, have found some relief from it. As with anything, you need a good accupuncurist, etc...

ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Panel Results, But Still Can Have Celiac?
happygirl replied to mama2two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Clinically: From Open Original Shared Link Seronegative celiac disease Both the anti-tTG and the EMA titers correlate with the severity of villous atrophy [26-29].
