  1. Takala gave a good answer to your question and there's not much I can add to that, other than to say it has to be your choice. Personally, if you feel that you would improve the quality of your life by cutting out all gluten and wheat, I would also remove foods which say 'may contain traces of wheat/gluten' then you have removed all reasonable doubt that...
  2. I've recently been prescribed caramellose sodium drops for dry eye syndrome due to my thyroid disease and have noticed my stomach hurting increasingly more each day, in the way it does when I've been contaminated with gluten. Has anyone else had this problem? The leaflet included with the drops doesn't mention any reaction with the stomach but when I looked...
  3. You've had some good advice already on here, so there's not much to add. I would like to say though, that I was gluten free for over a year before I really started to feel better. I was extremely anaemic too and the first type of iron tablet I was prescribed made me ill. There are different types of iron medication, so it's worth the time to look into...
  4. Good luck! Try not to worry. I have both IBS and had hysto when I was in my early 40's, it's not as bad as you think. Let us know how you get on.
  5. Don't know if it's just me, but before my thyroid problem was discovered I couldn't even think about working out at the gym in my wildest dreams? I used to curl up on the sofa and go to sleep.
  6. It certainly sounds like thyroid to me. Symptoms similar to my own. Pleased you are getting it checked out at the doctors. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  7. Sounds more like someone else glutening you, than you glutening yourself. This is the kind of thing that has almost entirely prevented me from going out to eat. People do not seem to realise what gluten actually is. I went to a restaurant that knew I was coeliac and was offered cous-cous as an alternative starter until I pointed out that cous-cous was...
  8. I would think it will be now, after being ill through eating gluten! Read everything twice, to make sure you are not eating something you shouldn't. Also, it would be a good idea to have an emergency gluten free snack bar of some description with you, so if you find yourself in the same situation, you don't just buy the first thing you see. Hope you feel...
  9. Do they not have one at the hospital you were diagnosed? When I was diagnosed Celiac, my specialist put me in touch with one at the same hospital.
  10. There are gluten free alternatives. I have had a conversation with my pastor when I was first diagnosed. He said he could get me an alternative from the regular bread, and I don't think they would offer that as an option if it wasn't 'valid'. Unfortunately, my problem is I still don't feel safe having communion at my church as there always seems to be bread...
  11. It could be you body is still detoxing, and as a result certain impurities in your system are coming to the surface. When I first started on a gluten free diet, it had more of an effect on my stomach and felt awful for quite a while before I started to feel better. We are all different, so our detox reactions will also be different. In a few months you (hopefully...
  12. I've noticed a lot of people on here getting migraine after been contaminated with gluten.
  13. That's very interesting. I had a migraine yesterday (and part of the previous day) about midnight last night I started with nausea and stomach cramping and constant visits to the bathroom. I may re-commence my food diary, to see if it sheds any light on my situation.
  14. I think it's because we are all individual and not everything effects us all in the same way. It may also be different on each occasion we get glutened too.
  15. That's very interesting! I will have to try that!
  16. Could you enquire fom where you collect your medication from? If they don't know, they should be able to put you in touch with the manufacturer of the medication. I hope you get some answers soon.
  17. Can I ask, is Carafate gluten free? In the UK all medicines prescribed by a doctor have a licence number. I was told by a pharmasist that medicines with a licence number (in UK) are gluten free. Is this the case in your country?
  18. I forgot to say, my husband put our bed on blocks at the head of the bed, which helped. So I could rest better without having to be permanently propped up on pillows, as it's hard getting restful sleep otherwise.
  19. I have not heard of Prilosec presumably it's a PPI. If that is the case I'm not sure you should be taking more later in the day. Have you seen a doctor recently? There may be a more appropriate treatment for your condition. I take a PPI each morning and for a long while they worked, but I started to have more problems and took indigestion tablets later in...
  20. She may be a dietitian but you may not be a 'text book subject' everyone is an individual. I would err on the side of caution with the dairy products too! I have been gluten free for 14 months. When I saw my dietitian at 9 months, she told me to try a little yogurt or cheese (as I became dairy intolerant before I was diagnosed coeliac. I did as she suggested...
  21. My view is that if you are paying for it, they should be able to provide a suitable alternative meal. Can you contact the organisers in advance, to see what they could offer as an alternative? If they can't do that, you should not be paying money for food you can't eat, especially if you are on a tight budget, it does not seem fair.
  22. Hi, there's a lot of issues in your post and you may need various responses to cover them all, I will attempt to respond. Firstly. It is difficult to get family members to get tested for celiac disease, as you cannot force people to do things they do not want to do. All you can do is provide information on celiac disease and how important it is to go...
  23. Another point I would like to add, is, with having fibromyalgia it may take longer to recover as you are being attacked from all sides. As a fibro sufferer myself, I know this only too well. It's a good point (made above) about cross contamination from gluteny kisses. It's surprising how many things that surface, the deeper you look into coeliac disease....
  24. Your biopsy still may turn out to be positive, so hang on in there. My blood test came back as a false negative but when I had my biopsy it was positive. It seems like you are going through a 'healing crisis' it can take a while for your body to recover from eating gluten/wheat. Your body will also be detoxing at the moment. It took me a while to start to...
  25. I agree with Rosetapper above! She's said exactly what I was going to say. Please do not be tempted to eat any wheat /gluten as it will have serious consequences eventually. It can take a long time for your gut to heal - the longer you have had it undisgnosed, the more damage will have been done to the villi.
