ARCHIVED Still Trying To Convince Myself This Is Real....
elonwy replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My mother has been on disability for years, and if she continues progressing at the rate she is, may be off it in a year. She tested negative for Celiac, but I've got it, and gluten free has changed her life completely. I used to be a B@itch. I used to be cranky and paranoid and have trouble speaking. Now I'm none of those things. I used to have crazy joint... -
I just had a great Triumph experience last night. I was at a sushi restaurant which is famous for its appetizers and crazy sashimi concotions. I showed up with my triumph cards and my packets of gluten-free soy sauce. The server took the card back to the chef, and they volunteered to make one of thier appetizers in a clean pan with my soy sauce. It was...

So I'm going to be in Europe for three weeks this July. I'm staying with a friend in Highgate for a week, then staying with some friends south of Paris (Suburbs) for two weeks. I'll be taking a weekend trip to Bourgogne in the middle of that. I've found health food stores and such that sell gluten-free goodies in Paris, and am pretty good at eating out,...

Couple things. Massive Dietary changes can affect cycles, your body can go into a sort of "stand-by" mode until it realizes whats happening, especially if you've dramatically cut down your carb intake. Amenorrhea can also be a warning sign of osteoperosis, so it is definitly something you want to mention to your doctor. I got a bone scan after diagnosis...

ARCHIVED Dear Pizza Hut.....i Hate You........
elonwy replied to angel-jd1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was never that impressed by Krispy Kreme. I always thought thier donuts were weak, and didn't understand what the fuss was. They made my stomach hurt too, lol. I see these commercials (on mute, because I refuse to listen) and the only thing I can think is "this is why america is overweight" and I just get grossed out by the junk food. I have noticed lately... -
ARCHIVED Acid Reflux Connection And Celiac/gluten Intolerance?
elonwy replied to teankerbell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The first thing I was diagnosed with was acid reflux and a supposed hiatal hernia, both of which I did not have. The reflux meds never worked on me, and once I went gluten free, all my reflux issues went away. Don't really have any references, but there is definitly a connection. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Is There A Safe Drive-thru Food I Can Eat?
elonwy replied to Mabc's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Whats great about every Baja Fresh I've gone to, is that I show them my Triumph cards, usually to a manager, and they'll whip me up a special taco plate with fun stuff on it. I don't think we can have the rice, but the beans are ok, and the tortillas. They've been great to me. Nothing I get is anything specific on the menu, they just create it for me. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Noodle Carts
elonwy replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Possibly, but I haven't been tested for anything else. It must be something in the seasoning packet, because I eat rice noodles all the time with no adverse effects. This was a very specific reaction that I've never really had before either. I'm going to investigate the ingredients further. Elonwy Adding-- I just re-read the ingredients. Theres nothing... -
ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Noodle Carts
elonwy replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, this was the noodle cart, its not soup, its just rice noodles with seasoning. You heat the noodles in hot water, then dump the water out and mix in the spices. The Pad Thai one and the Garlic one are labeled Gluten free. Open Original Shared Link These guys. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Noodle Carts
elonwy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought a few of these because they were on sale and I love the noodle soup bowls they make. The first one I ate I got that wierd hunger pain thing, but thought maybe it just wasn't enough food. I ate another one yesterday and had some popcorn as well ( which I eat constantly). I was driving later in the day, when the sharp hunger growl pains came back ... -

ARCHIVED Www.chreese.com
elonwy replied to pinkpei77's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, I was on thier website and didn't pick up that tidbit. Thats a pretty inside joke. I know they're trying to be all "green" with thier packaging and everything, but still. I think I have a hesistancy because of bad luck with other gluten free things that turned out to be terrible. I have this thing, when I buy wine. "If you like the label, you'll probably... -
ARCHIVED Please Help With This Constipation
elonwy replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Alos, be careful not to eat to many gluten free replacement products made with rice. Escpecially the breads and pastas, I find that if I eat too much rice based things, I get really bad C regardless of the amount of liquid or fiber I'm getting. Before gluten-free I went between D and C about every three days. ( That was soo much fun, but at least there was... -
ARCHIVED Www.chreese.com
elonwy replied to pinkpei77's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to say I've never bought thier stuff because the boxes are horribly unnatractive. I don't really have dairy issues though, so thats also another reason to just buy Annies or Tinkyada. And seriously Chreese? Someone should talk to their marketing people. I don't want to rile anyone up, but nothing about thier products say "eat me" to me at all.... -
ARCHIVED Cedarlane 5 Layer Bean Dip
elonwy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm going to call the company monday, but I bought some Cedar Lane 100% gluten free bean dip, then read the ingredients last night. Nothing in the ingredients has anything that would indicate the presence of wheat, but in the "contains" section underneath the ingredients it says "wheat". WTH? I'm hoping this is a box mislabeling issue, but its very confusing... -

ARCHIVED I Cant Tell If Im Glutend Or Just Intoxicated
elonwy replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It states it on the UK rizla website somewhere, thats what they are from. Someone else on here mentioned it, and I researched it. I get a definite gluten reaction from zigzag and Topps, worse with zigzag. My belly bloats up like a little balloon. When I'm at home I smoke with my water pipe, but its not really something you can carry with you, and I'm a little... -
You had to make sure they are rice noodles. MOST Pad Thai noodles are rice, but I've seen strange variations her in the states. Bean Thread is also gluten free. Anything with Mein in the name is a chinese noodle, you can preety much garuntee those have wheat in them. -Elonwy Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED I Cant Tell If Im Glutend Or Just Intoxicated
elonwy replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Again I ask, Are normal rolling papers invovled? Because the mainstream ones, zigzag, Tops, etc are made from Wheat and give me gluten reaction. Rizla's are gluten-free. -Elonwy -
ARCHIVED How Can Eating In Restaurants Not Get You Sick?
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I really think they are. I couldn't eat at my favorite Thai place because noone thier spoke english, but when I got the cards, everything was fine again. They now make me special dishes, leaving out soy sauce, etc and I haven't gotten sick there once. As soon as theres a language barrier, I think they are critical. I have also have numerous servers thank... -
ARCHIVED How Can Eating In Restaurants Not Get You Sick?
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
NuLev is an IBS medication which helps with the cramping and gas, and somewhat with the bloating. Its my emergency kit. I start to feel any weird inflation going on, I pop one so I don't end up on the floor. Yeah, sometimes if you get too adamant aboud CC people start to freak a little, I've had places refuse to try to work with me because my old dining... -
ARCHIVED I Am Not Sure If I Can Explain This
elonwy replied to Warrior Woman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also get movement and gnawing sensations, and incredible noises. People can hear me gurgling from across the hall. On those frowned upon substances, which make my tummy feel so much better, be careful with rolling paper. Many roll your own papers are made from wheat, and zig zag gives me gluten belly. Rizla's are gluten-free, and do not give me bloat. Just... -
ARCHIVED How Can Eating In Restaurants Not Get You Sick?
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
When I first began to eat out gluten-free, I got sick alot. Getting my dining cards changed everything. I'm also very picky about where I go. If I'm at say, a Denny's or that grade of restaurant, I'll order a cup of coffee and have a snack from my purse. What I've noticed with the dining cards is, If the wait staff is attentive and takes the card back to...
