ARCHIVED Splenda Sweetener
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Splenda is gluten free, but not recommended for those with IBS or IBS symptoms, it gives me tummy aches and cramps and headaches, so I avoid it. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?
elonwy replied to tiffjake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten makes me nuts. Angry, sad, whathaveyou. SEVERE emotional reaction. ick. Elonwy -
Go ahead I find that opening with something humerous usually breaks the ice and sends a signal that you don't want to be a pain in the butt, where as coming across strong can put them on the defensive. I have no problem getting stern, but I try to wait until its neccesary. Elonwy

ARCHIVED Skittles
elonwy replied to purplemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I loooove skittles. I am a personal fan of the Wild Berry variety. The new "ice cream" ones are really gross. Not a fan of the smoothie mix either. Elonwy -

ARCHIVED Okay, All You Fabulous Cooks!
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Garlic spikes up mashed potatoes nicely without added salt, as does a little bit of wasabi. I rarely cook anything that takes over 30 minutes. Many bases can be bought low sodium or with no "added" salt. You'll be surprised to find that most restaurants get low sodium more than they get gluten free. Stick to recipes that have acombined prep/cook time... -
It just feels wrong. I swear I start to feel bloated as the first bite slides down my throat, but its like taking a bite of something thats spoiled, I have an instantaneous, "that's not right" reaction, its not really a symptom so much as a general feeling of ick. Does that help? Its kind of hard to explain. Elonwy

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer In Vegas
elonwy replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Awesome!! Thank you. I'm finally starting to not dread this trip. They've promised there will be fruit at my breakfast meeting, and I'll be taking a ton of Think Thin and larabars for the show floor, but it'll be nice to say "lets go here" for dinner and not be freaked out by it. I'm not sure if I'm actually going to need the beer, but New Grist hasn't hit... -
My GI reactions are immediate, then I get fog and joint pain for 3-5 days. It's funny, and kind of gross, but I can tell by my BM's now when the gluten is finally "gone". I will go to the bathroom and I know that my system is done dealing with it and I'll start feeling better the next day. I definitly have a varied reaction time based on how much I ingest...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer In Vegas

ARCHIVED Okay, All You Fabulous Cooks!
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use McCormick's Cinnamon. You could have a Cinnamon allergy, I have a friend whose tongue swells up if she eats cinnamon. She gets a burning sensation if she eats it though. Its like she's eating a chili pepper, and then her tongue puffs up. Kinda scary. An additional comment on salt. I actually don't even add salt to anything, unless I'm baking. I buy... -
ARCHIVED Okay, All You Fabulous Cooks!
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had to cook low salt for my ex husband and I got the American Heart Associations low salt cookbook, fun easy stuff, obviously have to adapt for gluten-free, but it was a very useful reasourse, and let me add to the rest, salt-free seasoning blends are now your best friend. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED I Want To Stop Gaining Weight
elonwy replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh my goodness, digressing completely, but pturse your kitty looks EXACTLY like my cat Tulip. So cute! I too, put on a bunch of weight right away, but mostly because I was pigging out on things like brownies and cookies, which I never really ate while eating gluten, but I got these mental cravings, not physical hunger, and tried every gluten free thing I... -

elonwy replied to francelajoie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Spaa Cuisine
elonwy replied to francelajoie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
BLESS YOU! I grew up in Hawaii and these little tamari crackers are a snack I love but all the ones I have ever eaten were made with soy sauce. I mix them with my popcorn, its sooo good. This is awesome. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
elonwy replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry, you struck a bit of a nerve there. AZT is still the "preferred cocktail" but my uncle and his boyfriend ( who also died) were given choices and they chose a different combo over AZT. The drugs they were on did have a multitude of side effects, as they all do. My uncle was slightly too far along when he began treating it and I personally believe that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Recreational Drugs?
elonwy replied to romeo77's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If its man-made, its suspect. If its in a pill form, the binders are suspect. If its on paper, like LSD can be, the paper and the additive are suspect. Most LSD in "dot" form is cut with strictnine, which is what gives the "joker grin" effect. Fun eh? If its a powder, the cut is suspect. If it doesn't look like it came right off a tree or a bush or a cactus... -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
elonwy replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm having a really hard time moving on from "you never hear about anyone with AIDS anymore". I hoping this means "anyone famous". Because otherwise we live in different worlds. My uncle died of AIDS four years ago. I have a number of friends that are HIV positive. They take an enourmous amount of drugs every day, because the western world has drugs that... -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
elonwy replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My problem wasn't with the data, my problem was with the presentation and the conjecture. I myself am minimally immunized and recieved my first flu shot ever last year, because it was specifically recommended based on my changed immune responses, and the fact that before I was gluten free, I got sick from everything. I don't believe on mass immunizations... -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
elonwy replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Its a bit of a sterotype, but like all things based in fact. Schizoprenics and other people with mental disorders ( have some in my family, so I've been here) have been know to line thier houses and hats with tin foil in order to prevent "mental intrusion" so its a reference to paranoid delusions. Speed freaks get there as well. Pretty much the only people... -
I was pretty depressed for the first month or so. Once I started to notice a difference and feel better, and also once I realized that there is actually alot of gluten free food out there, I started to perk up. I think there is a gluten "detox period" that your body goes through as well. I'm now a very happy Celiac, and have been gluten free for six months...

ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
elonwy replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As soon as I got to the section on "Chemtrails" I had to stop. This web site is horribly presented and comes off like a hoax, or a conspiracy theory. Even if there are facts buried in it, the presentation and the mixture of stuff that I only see coming from crazies down on Venice beach ruins it. The "remedy" includes the use of colloidal silver (scary)... -
ARCHIVED Grits
elonwy replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat the ArrowHead Mills grits. not the instant kind, but it only takes five minutes. I can't eat eggs, so breakfasts are limited. I put cheese on my grits, or butter. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Frozen Food Luches/dinners
elonwy replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every mainstream one that I've tried, one lean cuisine meal and one south beach meal, I got very ill from. I like all the Amy's except the mac & cheese, which I did get sick from once, but I think they are working on thier cross contamination issues on that particular item. All my stores here sell Amy's so its easf for me. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Tattoo Ointment...
elonwy replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't use neosporin, as it makes the tattoo heal too fast and fades the color. My friend owns a tattoo shop, and he says that you shouldn't use ointments with healing properties for exactly that reason. I think he's got a good point, because my first tatoo, I used neosporin and it faded pretty quickly, the next two I didn't and they still look great. Elonwy
